For white middle class people, yes. Not so great for the black soldiers that sacrificed and spilled their blood for our freedom then came home to use the “Coloreds Only” water fountains and sit in the back of the bus.
Always fun to see an oldie as I'm one. Glad Micky Rooney or Jack Carson isn't in it. Good to see all the old cars and trucks. Can't hear well but this movie came through clear as a bell.
Nice to see actress Mary Gordon here in 1948 playing the cook/wife of 'Pops'. She played Mrs Hudson in the Basil Rathbone days of Sherlock Holmes a few years earlier.

Great flick with some clever dialogue. The old man, however, keeps swallowing his lines, or maybe I'm just going deaf. But this is a cool flick, no doubt about it.
Doris didn’t deserve Hank. She never trusted him when he told her something until she saw with her own eyes 👀 and that shows that she had to have her own proof. 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
You can’t expect psychologically sound character studies. In these movies characters do what increases tension, drives the plot, or makes the audience dumb how stupid the character is.
Meh - With the exception of how the guy got out of jail and not mentioning the deaths and injuries in the news article on the trucks and suspicion of foul play, no surprises. He is miraculously found not guilty at the end. It was better than nothing.
This had to be one of the sorriest movies I’ve ever seen, and I’m a classic movie buff. Just watch and you will see it’s what the girl didn’t do in the end which had my saying this is who you picked to Marry she’s useless.

You're partly unjust: though the plot is somewhat questionable, I must say, the actors are brilliant and the thrill is pretty there, too. Now, the weakest spot in a plot (nice rhyming!) is the fact that Frank, himself raised the suspicion when nobody else didn't - he could've continued with the scam since everybody believed those were accidents, not having a slightest reason for "rocking the boat"...
