This episode shows the prime example of why I love Jules. Half the times he's all memes. Things like "I'll eat my own ass for charity" or "Is Mario a Himbo?" make me laugh and forget my troubles. But then you have the second half of Jules that's super genuine. He gives advice, talks the psychology of humans, having realistic ideals while still following you dreams, and other philosophical things that make you think. Everytime I leave a FamilyJules stream I always feel happier and more enlightened in the weirdest way and there are not many other content creators that make me feel that way.
tl;dr Jules is great, and I'm happy to see him on the podcast.

"All right idiots, open up your textbooks to IDK and take some.... IDK and.... test is tomorrow."
    - Professor Jules.
Also, what he said about people trying to emulate music and find their own way with it is exactly how it is with art. People always ask how to find a style of their own and the way to do that is to keep trying stuff that's interesting and inevitably, on you own, you'll decide what you like and what you don't. You might draw something emulating a certain artist or style, but you'll change things according to how you like them, possibly without even realizing it. :)

I find it equal parts hilarious and appropriate that the episode featuring FamilyJules is also potentially the most wholesome episode of Disc Only. Absolutely love it. Hope this idea of having different special guests continues, even with people outside the TRG community.

So... I only just discovered this podcast existed a few days ago
I've since watched all the vids. This... This is great. I used to watch the Achievement Hunter Off Topic podcast, but honestly, after the Ryan thing I just... quit. cold turkey. that plus their format change(working from home and voice chatting(Which to be fair isn't their fault)) I can't watch their stuff anymore, so this really filled a void I didn't know existed. So... thank you ^^

TL;DR There’s a time and a place for loud angry reaction videos/social media posts, para-social relationships and non-para-social relationships aren’t polar opposites, and Good Guy Grandpa Georg.
Aside from the sleep schedule, you can tell who hasn’t seen a Jules on his or Jon’s streams before in the chat based on whether or not they’re expressing any level of concern that isn’t “none” towards any of his jokes or tangents. That he’s still streaming should be indicative of how well he knows Twitch TOS and what he can get away with.
I have this stupid mental image of Tom hunting for mammoth meat as though he were Hugh Neutron. “Oooh, caribou!”
The rest of this is probably going to come off as preaching to the choir or a rant, but I spent a good chunk of time mulling over this after the end of the podcast and (groggily) putting it into writing, so I’m committing to the bit and sharing it anyways.
Kinda expanding on what Tom said towards the endgame, I agree with Jules about how certain things ought to be handled privately instead of making big loud public reactions. Unfortunately private conversations that remain private don’t tend to generate buzz as is their nature. Anyone remember the Old Spice ad series between Isaiah Mustafa and Flavio? Or the AVGN vs. Nostalgia Critic videos? Look at how much interest and views that got generated because these groups/individuals had planned things out behind the scenes to get people talking and arguing.
Given those campaigns were effective, why not do the same when calling people out or accusing them since that’s bound to get attention and get people reacting further? No way things can go sideways there, especially when the accuser is not thinking straight due to emotions running high and failing to see room for error or potential misunderstandings on one side or the other? After all, they definitely knowingly stole content, so why bother directly engaging with them when they can be publicly shamed instead?
(Breaking character for a minute here, but screw people like that woman Jules was talking about at the end. People who do this sort of thing as a one-sided publicity stunt whether they know that the accused may be entirely innocent or not, but who cares when you believe that any publicity is good publicity and you’ve got more loyal followers out of the deal than you did before? Screw those people in particular)
It gets worse when fans band together to instigate these things, regardless of intent and even without videos because strength in numbers is definitely another way to get a message across even if it’s garbled or given without context. The whole Mara Wilson and CA drama from years ago, that’s one of the rarer cases where fortunately (or unfortunately depending on your views towards the latter) did not end in catastrophe for either party unwillingly involved, especially so for the former given where she is now compared to before. Can’t count on that to happen every time.
Big loud public reactions have their places on the internet: rallying for or against something much much bigger than one man, victims coming together to call attention against a public figure that seems otherwise sacred or untouchable, letting people who are hurting deeply know that they’re loved by so many. Big loud public reactions shouldn’t be used for such needless drama as “StephenPlays (might’ve) stolen my video idea!” or “Cadence of Hyrule Guitarist is a fraud, and I have the photo he signed to prove it!” and especially not in order to gain clout, recognition, etc. in such petty cases.
On the topic of para-social relations working like the Sims relationship meters, I don’t entirely agree with Jules’s assessment, at least not when it comes to them being entertainers (his example is more applicable for people who are extremely wary of strangers or have legitimately lost faith in humanity). To say that there is no gain in the host’s meters so to speak if people in the chat responded to “We like planes” with “Us too” is to say that they have absolutely no faith in any of their viewers to like planes which given how they individually behave around and interact with their respective chats during stream seemingly doesn’t line up with that assessment (trust is a two way street). If our hosts and guest don’t trust us to give honest responses and inputs, then why bother with asking for opinions or putting up polls beyond humoring us?
Conversely, I don’t think it’s wise to expect 100% gains in that relationship meter in them telling us that they like planes. To expect that for everything they say would mean to think them an open book in every sense but the literal one, and open they may be, there are some things that they intend to keep to themselves like private information. Realistically, some of those gains should be lost to doubt or paranoia, similar to how not all of the power from a wall outlet makes it to the connected appliance. They’re humans, not flawless deities. Humans are in a constant state of being prone to error, and that state should be reason enough to not have purely blind faith in anyone.
Even non-para-social relationships work this way. “You think you know a guy.” You don’t. Except for the people they’re 100% honest to and open with including themself, no one does. Anyone you engage with in a more traditional relationship, you have at least a bit of faith that the things you don’t know are benign or harmless and that what you do supposedly know is truth (“I think they really do like planes!”), and likely there’s going to be a tinge of doubt or hesitation to accept, especially if you’re just starting out (“Maybe they don’t like planes as much as they claim. Hopefully they do.”). They are two sides of the same coin.
So to me both para- and non-para-social relationships aren’t that different. They both still have the potentials to lead to something greater or end in betrayal, though I will say that non-para-social relationships also at least have the capacity for implicit trust both ways if the existence of long-standing partnerships and relationships are any indication. You’re not going to get two-way implicit trust as long as there’s some semblance of anonymity involved, and maybe that’s what Jules was more going for in his example.
Closing this wall o’ text/rant out with this: enough cannot be said about how professionally Stephen handled that situation of his and did his best to turn it into a win-win without any further confrontation or accusations. What an absolute champ.

I feel like I’m better at acting like a normal human being in person at cons than on Twitter when it comes to interacting with content creators. Which is ironic, because I’m bad at acting like a normal human being most of the time.
Just approach creators like you would to compliment a stranger on their hair, or comment that you like that show their T-shirt is referencing. Same concept. They don’t know you, you only know a small part of them. They may not want to say more than a couple words and that’s okay. They’re not going to be your new BFF.

Huh. The comment about being able to write off the cocaine talked about at around 19:24 actually got my brain thinking. Technically drug dealing costs aren’t deductible as business expenses, but this isn’t drug dealing. This is r and d. However, things like bribes and kickbacks are also not deductible. Income and everything from illegal businesses is supposed to be reported though, so perhaps this would fall under the category of illegal business and then be includible on tax returns. I wish I was still in classes so I could ask my teacher this

I have a question since you all said to "ask for help from people bigger then you" I thought i would ask if someone could look at some of my content and see if there is anything i could do to help improve. I like what i am doing as well as plan to eventually make games as well based on the games i play (which is why i talk about characters or game design in some of my videoes when i run out of things to talk about for the moment.) I just want to know how to maybe reach more people cause even though it is fun to do all this i kinda wish i had an audience to bounce either ideas for my games or just chat with in either the comments of my videos or on my streams.
Any help would be nice please and thanks for reading all of this.
