On the topic of mispronounced names, I remember one time I was waiting in line to get lunch at the food court on my college campus. A lady comes out with an order and shouts the name “Geisha.” A guy walks up to her and goes “My name’s Joshua.” To this day, that is still one of the best mispronunciations I’ve ever heard. 😂

I can tell Tom the exact reason why he doesn’t hear ‘howdy’ used as a greeting: he lives in Austin, which is where the burnt orange cow college is located. The blood feud between it and A&M is still going, and “Howdy!” Is used by Aggies all the time. It’s an association thing.

I relate too much to the whole name mispronunciation thing lol I remember one time when I was going to get a cast for my broken leg, and the nurse that called my name pronounced my last name as Salami. Like, I get it. I'm used to my last name being pronounced wrong. But there isn't even an L in my name!
Oh my word the sunburn talk reminded me of my worse experience with it. I was on a trip with my church youth group to the each and no one helped me with my sun screen. I tried to spray myself, only got a circle on my back. I was crying when I got home because of how bad it was and my mom poured lemon juice on my back to help (idk how it helps but it did). Then, I had to take a shower in cold water since I couldn’t use hot, and I was practically frozen since my skin read cold water as ice temperature at the time.
I was sunburned real bad on my shoulders once in elementary school. someone who didn't like me very much heard me talking about it on the bus once. I got off the bus and just felt two hands slam on my shoulders. I don't remember anything else that happened that day.

Okay so looking back on it I agree that the third Pokémon movie was weird but for some reason as a child I LOVED that movie the most and I have no idea why because it’s been years since I’ve watched it. But I've also heard "Houston", "Youngling", and the most confusing one I've ever gotten, "Boosting". It's also surprising how many people spell my last name with only one O. And in my native language people screw it up too somehow. I went to my high school for five years and when I left I still had people thinking my first name was Joost. "Tomas" is another common mistake.

I don't know if this is right or not, but black people have stronger resistance to getting burned by the sun's rays because they have a lot of melanin, more than light-skinned people do, acting as a shield against the sun's light. Maybe they use SPF 5 sunscreen to strengthen that shield against sunlight? EDIT: Also, I mostly remember The Big Lebowski because of Jeff Bridges, I discovered recently that The Big Lebowski is the origin story of why he's called The Dude (which explains why it features so prominently in his Cecil B. DeMille award montage back in 2019). EDIT #2: On mispronounced names, my first name has been mispronounced my entire life by basically almost everyone outside of my family because they couldn't speak Korean to save their lives. As a result, since middle school, I've been going by a nickname in public to avoid having to correct people, because every time I had to do that, a part of me was screaming in agony at how many times I had to do it (not to mention the many times I wanted to scream in people's faces for every mispronunciation of my name). It was agony trying to correct people, so outside of my family, no one gets to use my real name on me unless they know Korean and/or can actually pronounce Korean words without me correcting them. Call me harsh, but I set those rules after a lifetime's worth of correcting people. I'm done correcting people. If anyone wants to use my real name, the one on my birth certificate, they should learn Korean first and show me indelible proof. EDIT #3: Also, Stephen's last name mispronounced? It seems that in at least one instance they pronounce his last name that way because they assume it's the German form of George, which it is at first glance.
