I love my school dreams. Because they're never things like "you're back in like 9th grade, haha." It's always more interesting, like "You're in school..." my brain reminds itself I'm too old for school and it resets "You've returned to school, now take this sword and learn how to fight from the PE teacher, Geralt of Rivia. Sure, you're too old to be a student, but screw you this is the setting for the story."
The sentence that Jon mentioned on the Exploding Head Syndrome on the Wikipedia page actually goes like this: “Despite the name, the person’s head doesn’t actually explode (citation needed).” The citation needed isn’t formatted or anything, it’s fantastic.
That wasn't there when we did the podcast. I still had the page up and hit refresh to see that get added after the podcast, so someone broke our "Don't vandalize Wikipedia" rule it seems...
What's worse? Being a light sleeper like Lucahjin or a heavy sleeper? One one hand, you're almost always exhausted because you wake up all the time. On the other hand, you sleep through emergencies, like me.
Another one of those comments where I type whatever comes to mind! Not even an hour into the podcast and it's already super long. 4:34 I'm guessing that story was about a... Siri-al killer... 8:24 This reminds me of when my mom and I were driving through an area we pretty much never pass through. On our way home, we followed our GPS's directions through a tiny town called St. Hubert, where almost all the houses on the relatively busy main connecting road had signs outside saying something I can loosely translate as "Away with that road!" You know what I mean, they wanted the busy road to be out of their front yard pretty much. We were making jokes and laughing about the signs of course, and we continued down the road into a town called Haps. This is where you can get on the highway we needed to take to eventually get home. However, the entire road network there had been completely replaced, everything was rerouted pretty much. So of course our GPS wasn't used to this layout yet and sent us down some weird road that for us was a dead end, but for the GPS kept going. So of course my mom and I burst out laughing, blaming the signage in St. Hubert for the road disappearing. To this day St. Hubert is a huge inside joke between us. 9:51 A few weeks ago, my friend and I went biking around my area and just headed in a random direction. We ended up on some really dumpy dirt road in a weird field outside some town nobody has ever heard of, and my ice tea bottle falls out of my bike basket. I only realize this a while later, so we go back to try and find it, which we were successful in (and I recorded it and put it on Twitter) and head back the way we were going. There's a split in this road and we go left because to both of us it feels like that's where we need to go to reach a town we wanted to stop by. After quite some time biking, the road just... ends. No indication of it or anything, just a dirt road stopping in the middle of what felt like empty farmland, with a railway in the distance. 19:15 My dog Karel always had a distinct sound for when he was dreaming. You could see his stomach move as he made a few soft squeaking noises in quick succession, and then he'd do it again a bit later. Very similar to what Tom did, though like three immediately after each other. 34:00 Karel wasn't really a big fan of toys or playing, but when he wanted attention and felt his normal efforts weren't being noticed, he'd grab the first plush he could find lying around and go to town on it. He'd hold on to it with his mouth and shake it around or make little hops while making playful growling noises. I remember one time I was sitting on the couch when he took my sock of my foot and ran away with it to his pillow so I'd go after him and try to tug it away from him. 39:07 I graduated last year, so school memories are still pretty fresh in my brain. I do dream about school pretty often, but I don't recall a single stressful school dream. I have, however, had two or three stressful work-related dreams. 40:11 I never have to pee in the middle of the night, at least I don't remember ever waking up, getting up, peeing and going back to sleep. If I do wake up in the middle of the night, I am very awake and aware of what I'm doing like instantly. The last time I did have to pee in the middle of the night... let's just say we had a lot of laundry that day. I did dream that I was peeing that night. Memories. 44:52 I have a server exactly like that! It has a dream diary, a venting diary, links to art I like, all that sorta stuff. 51:30 I went through my dream diary on said private Discord to find my favorite dream I had written in there, and it might be this one I experienced on August 26th, 2020: "Michael from Vsauce was making a video similar to his old style, though I don't remember what it was about. I do remember that he asked me to hop on a Skype call for the video and talk about some stuff relating to the video. Someone else was there too. Michael was about to close off his video, but something suddenly reminded me of the mountain chicken (which is a frog), so I asked Michael if he knew what it was, though for some reason I told the other person to not say, as if I knew they knew. Michael stayed silent for a few seconds as I, in my room only lit by my computer screen, grabbed a can of Grace ginger beer I had on my desk to the right of my computer (which I've only ever had once before, so I don't know why that was there instead of like a Coke or something). As Michael said "I used to, but I don't remember.", I heard Vsauce outro music (Flan by Jake Chudnow) coming up as if it was starting to play very loudly in my own brain and I screen-shared me Googling the mountain chicken, and my actual vision then suddenly cut to black, presumably with "@tweetsauce" on the screen like on most of his videos, and all I could hear was the outro music." Another dream I had on May 16th, 2021 was less funny but I do like how because I was holding a toothbrush throughout the entire dream I legitimately felt like I had to get up and go to the bathroom to put my toothbrush back when I woke up. 58:00 I had a few reoccurring dreams when I was a kid. In one of them, I'd be visiting a forest with my family when a message would play through a massive system of speakers all throughout the forest asking the visitors to leave the forest as it was time for the animals to go to sleep. So we walked out of the forest and I decided I'd run to the car and hop in first. However, when I hopped into the car, it'd start by itself and drive off as I looked through the window at the back of the car and see my family running after the car but being unable to catch up with it. For another dream I need to give some context. My grandma was a doll collector; a whole room in my grandparents' house was filled with dolls. However, some of the bigger dolls were stored in other rooms, including a witch doll/statue in the living room with its hand out. One time when I was a kid, my mom was carrying me on her shoulder and bended down a little bit, telling me to shake the witch's hand. When I did, the eyes of the witch doll lit up in red as a very creepy cackle came out of the doll. That, obviously, terrified me at such a young age, and to this day I hate that doll with a passion and I refuse to look at it. As a kid, I often had a dream that the doll would chase me through my grandpa's house. It'd run after me as I'd run through the kitchen and out the back door, but I'd always trip somewhere in the backyard and look behind me to see it running up to me. The dream would always end or start over just as it was about to reach me. Another dream I had, and I still do get, very occasionally, is that I'd be crossing my street, but trip over the slight height difference between the street and the sidewalk and fall face first onto the sidewalk, which I always wake up from. I think my legs always react pretty heavily when that dream wakes me up.
I have a variation of the falling dream, but I never actually hit the ground, usually either the fall is caused by falling through a solid object, or it ends with me falling through solid ground as if it's a glitch in a video game.
Dan cam say whatever he wants so long as it's in a poetic format that changes monthly. One episode it's iambic pentameter, the next it's Haiku, then it's a limeric, and so on
I can throw my 2 cents in for the times I’ve experienced the Tetris Effect, first time was when I played Twilight Princess for 10 hours straight with no breaks and I could hear the jingle of wolf link’s chains when I closed my eyes that night. The 2nd time was when I’ve been playing a lot of Ace Combat and Project Wingman and I could not stop hearing the missile alarms when I tried to sleep. Crazy stuff
Stephen's line about the "Wormhole in the murder barn to Seattle" when they were talking about Cheddar's just made me think of; "Do not talk about the wormhole in the women's bathroom at the local Arby's, do not think about the wormhole in the women's bathroom at the local Arby's, and whatever you do, do not approach the wormhole in the women's bathroom at the local Arby's. And Welcome, to Nightvale." --- (Bagel appears) "Aw, sounds like Bagel had a nightmare." (Later Jon explaining Bagel had a nightmare) Awwww yeah, I can understand animal inflections. --- (What dream do you most remember) I'll be honest, I wasn't going to comment on this... until I found that Tom's was ALSO related to Scooby Doo XD. Mine was being chased around an abandoned warehouse by the Living Tar Monster along with Shaggy and Scooby, WHILE "What's New Scooby Doo?" played in the background. (Of note; the official What's New Scooby Doo? video has them being chased around an abandoned warehouse as well.) I had fallen asleep listening to my iPod at the time and it had just coincided with that track coming on.
My dreams are very weird and vivid usually I have what I've described as "Precognitive Dreams" where I will dream about something in first person like walking down a street or seeing a view from a window, then a couple of weeks later the events of my dream will play out and I get the feeling of deja vu. The other dreams I remember having are me running from big cats (Lions, Tigers etc.) and I wake up just before I get caught.
I’m a CPA and from about February through April, I have a recurring dream every year. I dream that I am being forced to do a Mind Flayer’s taxes. It freaked me out the first time I had, but after a few a couple of years, I have just accepted that I’m gonna have that dream and I’m ready for it now.
Be great for advertising Person: Hey how do I get to McDonald’s Person 2: He followed me…he followed me as I hear his sinister snicker and the screeching of the shovel on the concrete. My heart slowly beating as fear prevented me from running then *bam* I was struck by the shovel as light goes dim the killer asked what is in my hand? I responded with a simple “Its a Big Mac, and you can get one too at your local McDonald’s which is 1 mile to the right of your current location” Person:…………uh thanks
most common dreams Ive ever had: Im on a school bus going somewhere and the buss drives off a cliff and falls upwards There is a secret room in my house full of unopened lego sets
My favorite dream of all time and the one I remember most readily is one where I actually died, and after dying I was presented with what I can only describe as a "GAME OVER" screen, with Restart and New Game options. I believe in my dream, I somehow was aware that "Restart" would basically just have me live out my life again whereas "New Game" would have me change whatever options I wanted before I restarted, like a New Game Plus kinda. I also believe time frame was an option, letting me restart either in the past or in the future. I only looked through some of the options before I woke up, but I distinctly and VERY clearly remember having an extremely relieved "oh thank goodness" reaction to finally knowing what happens after you die, where you literally just get to start anew. Which, like, is just reincarnation, I guess. It does track because if I had to put all my chips behind one specific "post death" experience, reincarnation is the one I'm backing.
The most common dreams I have are those of my future, or precognitive dreams as they are called. I've seen things like videos that I watched in the future, or people I've seen or met in the future, or been in situations that I happen to be in, such as visiting different locals. I remember seeing my siblings & friends one year at a dining table in a restaurant we typically visit, and a year later, my dream came true. Everything I saw in the dream happened in reality. Everyone was seated where they were & were dressed the exact same way as I saw them in my dream. I even met someone whose name I heard in a dream a couple years ago online. I remember I said their name in a recording in my dream, and it was a completely unfamiliar name to me, but I said their name as if I knew them fairly closely, and just a few months ago, I did make a voice recording for that person (who's since become a dear friend over the course of a year & a half), and the memory from that dream, which I think I had a few years prior just came flooding back in that moment. These dreams I have are often hazy mental images (think Shulk's visions in Xenoblade 1), so I often forget them & go about life, but when they happen, they become clear as day, and I remember them vividly.
My dreams are really bizarre, because they usually aren't just one dream, but rather a series of dreams. Sometimes the dreams change slowly as a new element is introduced that leads into the next dream, or the dream can just suddenly change into something completely different with no warning. They are also often about warped versions of things I recognize (like a school that's also a massive flying fortress).
I can't believe I've had exploding head syndrome my whole life and never knew. I sometimes hear what sounds like a door slamming. I've been so convinced it was a door I've woken up my husband multiple times to check.
In terms of my own dreams, I have 3 notable ones, though they don't repeat. I just remember them. One of them happens to be pool-based as well, and one of the settings of another is a school
If you want more info, the pool one has me entering the pool at the beginning of the dream, and I'm wearing a kids scuba mask (I was of course a kid at the time), and I make it to the surface of the pool. It's an indoor pool in an otherwise empty white room with windows on the opposite wall, high. There is also an elevator, but instead of a door, it had a Ronald McDonald at the side (the one that usually showcased the toys), and in the elevator are 2 women that I identified as my aunts. The arm of Ronald starts going down, and I recognized that as the door closing, so I exit the pool and barely make it under the arm, curl at the feet of the women and fall asleep. End of dream.
The other one I alluded (I'm a young adult at this time) to starts with me in a park, near a bench with a red haired young woman asks if I'd like to hang out with her. I sit down, and without really talking because I don't know what to talk about, eventually she moves her hand closer to mine until we're holding hands, all cute and everything, then we walk together. That's nice. Then we jump back in time, and I see this girl (younger of course), and I try to get to her to say hi. She runs away from me/avoids talking to me. Back in time again and she tries to avoid me more and more. One of the settings is in school. Eventually I'm chasing her in large complex maze-like house that ostensibly belonged to my extended family. Im eventually distracted a train that goes in and out of the walls (a toy model train to be clear) that I follow during me trying to find this girl and figure out what's going on.
I used to have the teeth falling out dreams a ton. I hated them so much. I also used to had nightmares where I would be chased by a rottweiler and I would always trip and and as I was about to get my face ripped off, I would wake up. Every single time. I also used to have dreams where I was back in highschool and every time I had dreams about being back in highschool, I would wake up absolutely drenched. Like as if I just ran for hours. They wouldn't even be bad dreams either for the most part. It could be just like doing homework at the school library and I'd still wake up sweaty as all hell
I've had multiple times where i wake up to a REALLY loud noise. I had no clue it was a thing tbh. For me it's more like an old car horn from cartoons driving by super quick. Like not an ahwooooga, but more like an actual honk.
I've never thought of just making a server as a to do list, I usually just text things to myself but using discord for that would be way more useful and I could open it anywhere... I might do that
So, 10 minutes into the podcast, I hear.... - Murder Barn - Bathtub - Wormhole - Shortcut to Seattle And as someone who has just finished watching all 3 seasons of Stranger Things, I am getting flashbacks XDD
The Tetris Effect thing was what I had for while, im sleeping and for some reason I hear a plant being placed in Plants vs Zombies even when the computer was off
What my family does is we feed my cats soft food dinner, then dinner 2 which is hard food, also whenever I’m not in my room my cat screams, but when I’m near her she’s meows very quietly
I hate the really gotta pee dream. When I'm awake, I have complete confidence in my bladder. When I'm in the dream and I let it flow, my brain instantly goes, "Oh shit... am I peeing in my bed??" Then I'd wake up, feel that everything is dry, and go back to sleep. Also due to the subtitle of this episode, obligatory shout out to my favorite music track in Rise of the Robots for SNES: Military.
I used to hate the pee dream, but then my subconscious realized I wasn't falling for it and panicking anymore. So now instead of the pee dream, I have dreams where I puke my guts out and then I wake up having to check myself and make sure I'm ok
I know this video is old, but I hope this is seen. You actually can't read clocks in dreams. The same part of your brain that lets you read a clock is the part that makes you dream. So if you ever aren't sure if you are dreaming, find a clock. If you cant read it, you are asleep.
at my most perceptive times, I catch snippets of dreams and sort of experience them for a moment, but I've never had enough awareness to have any control. Then I wake up and usually go oh that was fucked, then forget. I have entertained the possibility of trying to lucid dream, there are a lot of places I could go from my childhood. But I'm kind of afraid of what I might find.
Good to know that my favorite people have psychological problems too! Lol in all seriousness I totally get some of the things they mentioned because of my crappy past.
Victoria Schwab donst really do romance as a genre sounds like it was probably This Dark Duet which dosnt even have romance in it. Just because something is a young adult novel dont mean it's romance come on now. It disnt even sound like anythimg resembling romance

I love how Jared also practices lucid dreaming. I often realise I'm dreaminig if I see my dead grandparents or I'm in school again.
My falling dream ended with me subconsciously arching my back and slamming my body against my couch (that woke me up) before I hit the pavement.
So you're saying some shit went down in that barn

My common dreams: I'm in a plane and it's about to crash, or I'm apparently repeating high school but skipped half my classes because of work

Welcome to the Sleepy Time Podcast

Synth in Asia?! Synesthesia, my boy. Pronounced as "Sin Es Thee Juh."
1:20:08 I have a minor case of that with the Sentry Busters from TF2.
...getoutofmybrain...
My family was almost led off of a cliff trying to go to Dairy Queen once
Tetris effect is fun
I recently had it with Picross while running a mild fever
Talking about the Tetris effect... I had that bad with Theatrhythm final fantasy curtain call.
my dreams often involve murder, and/or an old school crush I haven't seen in years
I do always realise I am dreaming, but I cannot control them
Yayyyy it’s back ❤️
The sad part is that I just joined in the end… I missed the whole craziness live
at my most perceptive times, I catch snippets of dreams and sort of experience them for a moment, but I've never had enough awareness to have any control.
1:26:40 Didn't restaurant violence happen in the FBI McDonald's dream, though?
so discord seems to be acting up with voice chat now i noticed
Stephen forgot about negative reinforcement.
Absolutely thought that Jon's dream would be that there was some lady at the pool who had a bikini that said 'Bigger' on her top.
1:23:30 Shut up and take my money!
Dumbhole? So Chugga’s headspace?
I'm glad nobody disliked this video

Victoria Schwab donst really do romance as a genre sounds like it was probably This Dark Duet which dosnt even have romance in it. Just because something is a young adult novel dont mean it's romance come on now. It disnt even sound like anythimg resembling romance
