She's such a well rounded musician. A common mistake musicians make is to think everything has to be more complicated in order to be considered better. But Elise knows how to use minimalism and layer it with the other instruments and melodies. She's experienced in the interplay between all the instruments, and how it affects the final product. She also understands that minimalism doesn't mean boring. Just the small detail of syncopating the rhythm adds a more complicated feel. It seems, at least to me, that she doesn't get an ego that other musicians get. Which is funny, bc she's the only musician in her band.
Well if you play more complex stuff you are (at least to me) the better technical player but that doesn't mean you are a better musician or that your music is better. Creativity can be found in many aspects of music, if somebody likes the result is entirely up to each persons taste.
The choked hi-hat flourishes sprinkled in are a nice and bright touch. The fact that you know the strengths of each instrument, lets you create parts that work so well together. Nothing is overpowering or dominates the mix. The only flaw, is just being too short of a song. Just when you start grooving to it, you realize it's ending. Need an extended version! :)
I think the shortness of the song is actually a clever thing, it makes you play it again and again and in the era of streaming platforms it is actually quite desirable. :)
I absolutely love this awesome song!!!! And I am so eager to hear what you have got planned next for us lucky souls!!!!! The reminder bell is set!!!!!!!
I think I figured out part of why I like her drumming so much - she leans on the tomtoms a lot, like Ringo. I like toms more than cymbals, so this rhythm tickles my heart.
Cool stuff, as usual, Elise. When I watch your live loop video to this song I keep wondering which instruments I would have knocked over trying to get the right take.
I was thinking about that only yesterday, while watching a couple of her videos; "I wonder if she'd ever got stuck on a guitar- or bass strap while moving on to the next instrument!?" 😀
I like how you break it down so simplistic even though it's not. she can explain and show you in that you can understand no matter what your level. On a side note I also like that your using your Vater drum sticks. I picked up a copy to add to my collection.
The atmosphere of her song reminds me of that 🎶"Ooh-ooh, I'm a rebel just for kicks now"🎶 one 🙂 And I was actually thinking, too, "Ah yeah, those beats are fairly simple" - until she mentioned the fact of singing on top of drumming when performing the song live! 😄
I've been following her account for years. I only realized watching this video that I didn't know how to pronounce her surname. Fortunately I've pronounced it correctly by coincidence whenever I tell people about her music.
She's awesome ! She's a drummer at her core, but started her career at 17 by doing popular songs mashups (like Police/Radiohead, or Foo Fighters/Bobby Caldwell, both being really well put together) while doing loops of all the instruments all by herself, and pretty much instantly shot up to RUclips stardom with just these 2. And obviously, she didn't stop just there. Check her vids up on youtube, they're well worth your time.
Technically not overly difficult to play and reminds me personally strongly of some Ringo Starr stuff (brought forward into our times), but ... it needs that groove ... which she clearly has!! ;-) Also her voice... I am familiar with her stuff and play it to friends sometimes ... I am going to ad this: let’s stay away from simping and excessive adulation here guys, we all know it’s tempting to do, but let’s show some inner strength! 😎
I think there's a layer of hi-hats over the floor part or at least an open hi-hat bark every 4 bars. Regardless, it sounds good. Elise's feel makes it sing.
So strange to hear her pronounce her last name english-ified. Since its a Dutch last name (meaning ‘loyal’) I thought she would pronounce it the Dutch way.
You can tell she's a classically trained drummer by the way her left foot keeps the beat going on the hi-hat, even when she isn't opening/closing it - her left foot still moves around, bouncing to the beat. A lot of modern self-taught drummers barely use the hi-hat pedal at all.
I'm not a drummer... I don't know anything about drums... but I've just learned how to pronounce her last name :)
Love her music!!!
same!
A perfect example of "less is more" anything else would suffocate the song, these parts she's created really let the track breathe. Nicely done 👌
Exactly drum Olympics chops doesn't equal music
@@miker5233 drumnastics 🤣
I totally respect that but how about you give a shot to "More Is More" version we've made upon her request? I meant the Remix, it's on our channel
meh
I love this song and her thoughtful breakdown! I was so happy to hear her song on the radio here in Sacramento.

I doubt its about being perceived as "better" maybe more its just more fun for them? Maybe it had nothing to do with your taste or opinions? Lmao

I recently came across her channel by chance, AND IM SO GLAD. The drums in this are just delightful.

Elise looks very normal in this video. I don't mean it in a bad way, it's very refreshing after seeing her styled for her music videos.

The incomparable and edible Elise Trouw...

is this about a song or are we getting general life advice 😃
She breaks down the song part by part! 😎
Ha ha "natural"... Its natural for her. I am glad to be able to hear, but whats in her brain is another level.
😍😍😍😍😍😍
Playing drums never looked so good...
Great rack!
Me watching this: 🥰😍
