My mother attended the funeral. She had nightmares for awhile after that. So sad what hate can do. His mother was so brave to do what she did during that era.

I can hardly fathom the pain and anguish that Mamie Till endured in the wake of her son's murder. Witnessing her child so horribly disfigured by the violence inflicted upon Emmett is beyond comprehension.
If one's eyes are truly windows to the soul, you can discern Emmett's genuine and sweet nature through his smile and the light his eyes radiated.
The fact that the murderers were acquitted only serves to stoke my anger further.
I just watched the movie "Till" It made me cry. Rest In Peace Emmett and his mama, Mammie too. Now they are together again.

I remember in middle school finding that his case was in the Supreme Court again in 2012. He deserved justice and never got it even till this day and it’s a constant reminder of how much more we need to continue to fight for change. Truly heartbreaking.

@@YernBelfus there are several changes that could be made such as the due process, bail, processing time frames, etc. From all the law classes I have taken there is a lot that can be improved for every type of person but there is a lack of change happening. There is a lot of research and articles I can link you if you would like as there is a vast ocean of change that can be implemented if you would like to read up on it. :)
He was a beautiful, beautiful boy. His eyes so gentle. His smile angelic. There is no doubt that he was simply a most respectable young man who found it natural to be friendly and genuine in his limited days on this brutal earth.
I just hate to imagine how he suffered and how scared he was.☹

I just read the other day that the family of Emmett Till is trying to have the woman taken to trial for her involvement in what led to Emmett's brutal death. I'm all for it. Absolutely unfathomable. We will never know the depth of pain he endured physically, nor his mother emotionally 💔 sadly, the inexplicable hatred still exists. The Emmet Till Memorial has been vandalized countless times and replaced as recently as 2019, when they replaced it with a "bullet-proof" version. Racism has to be a mental illness in and of itself. Senseless and mind boggling.
Thinking about the fear and pain he suffered is more than I can handle. It just makes me sick. The unbelievable pain his mother suffered in losing him and in such a manner is just more than my mind can imagine.

@@DortonFarb I can’t imagine how that mother felt seeing her beloved child like that and the minutes of suffering he went through. I will never understand how humans can do that. My father was from Arkansas and I was born there but I grew up in Hawaii where my mother is from. When I moved to Georgia because my x husband was transferred there to another Air Force base, this was back in 1972 I was confused as to the prejudice I saw there and eventually came back to the West Coast. My mother was a teenager when she witnessed the bombing of Pearl Harbor but she would never allow us to be prejudice under any circumstances. I’ve been bullied in Hawaii for being white and after learning of my heritage background of Irish, Cherokee Indian and European Jewish I can see where it would be easy to hate because of treatment but I can’t do it. We must endeavor to persevere. In my current life I’m a victim of narcissistic abuse and I’m still confused over people who torture and abuse in order to make another human suffer. I’ve asked myself that if this is what God or Jesus wants me to learn ok so be it but there has to be peace at some point and I’m gona find it 👍

What a story. I watched this movie today and I was in tears. So horribly sad that our society accepted this. And still accepts social injustice today. If I'm correct he said "bye baby" as he left the convenient store with his friends. And she (the lady at the counter) told her husband and he got his brother and they kidnapped him, beat him to death, and chained him to this circular thing and pushed him into the river and he was found 3 days later by 2 other children. My heart goes out to him. This was a horrible way to die and I am so f**ked off that the defendents pretty much got away with this because the justice system back then was absolute dog shit. And honestly hasn't changed that much. 😔

The pictures are so important. You can read what happened but like they said - the side by side pics really just drive home the severity and the horror. More than 65 years later and the pictures, in my opinion, have not lost their effect and do not lose it even after seeing them for the tenth time. RIP Emmett

I’m so thankful that my 7th grade teacher brought this up during English class. Talking about Emmett Till’s modern lynching had nothing to do with our curriculum and everyone in class was damn near shook and silent when the story was brought up. Mr. Nak was not obliged by the Canadian school board to bring it up during lesson but I’m glad he did and that we learned about it.

There are so many little details about this story. Emmett's father, Louis Till, died in Europe while in the Army in 1945.
The man in that picture was Genie (Gene) Mobley, Mamie's 4th husband.
It angers me that the woman who accused Emmett in 1955 has now recanted her lie decades later and is still free to walk amongst us. It also angers me that a warrant was drawn up for her arrest in 1955 but was not served due to their reasons, she had kids to care for. I will never forget, never.

It doesn't matter how many times I see that picture of Emmett's horribly disfigured in that coffin. Each time I am left with the same feelings of extreme anger, sadness and disbelief. How can you do this to anyone let alone a child? There are some truly evil people in this world. Thinking of how Emmett suffered brings me to tears. Carolyn Bryant has admitted that she lied about Emmett Till whistling at her. She isn’t being charged because of her age/that she’s elderly. What are the prosecutors doing? She committed a crime and should be charged and jailed no matter how old she is now. Makes my blood boil.
So I just did the research and she actually never admitted that, it was printed in a book about her, but never proven. And the FBI could never charge her because they never had proof she recanted her statement.

I remember being a kid like it was yesterday. I would just want to be home with my family, not understanding these people's insane bloodlust. How many kids in America have lived their final moments with maximum level fear. I would die in disbelief at how these 'grownups' are joyfully killing me. Ms Till handled this senseless uncalled for death of her child with bravery. To know this baby had to go through so much violence at a young age and his mother had to bury her child and see him like that as she say goodbye is heartbreaking ❤️🩹
His mother was such a strong and courageous woman. She refused to hide what they'd done to him, and if left no doubt as to what really happened. How his accusers and killers could live with themselves, knowing he'd done nothing but be a child, is as disturbing today as it was in the 50's.

Yes indeed! I lost a granddaughter who was injured during labor and delivery. She was so beautiful. Her mother realized she was already gone and unhooked her life support. I so desperately wanted to see her before her funeral. But I couldn't. I just could not bring myself to have enough courage to see her like that. What I had already seen was bad enough just with machines and tubes and such. Even with no trauma to her body, I still could not go with my daughter to view her. How this mother did what she did, I'll never understand. Brave doesn't seem good enough a word to describe this woman.

I watched the movie, I had so much difficulty to sleep. I cried to see how saddict and crual the humans can be . Poor little boy and poor mom. She was so courageous! May Emmet and his mom find peace together in heaven . God bless them.
We watched this movie a few nights ago. Very powerful. She was incredibly brave.

I can't speak for anyone but me and my household but after really Learning about this family, we indeed celebrated this mother and all of the work she did and all that she contributed to the world, including her son. By all accounts, from anyone I would consider at all trustworthy, Emmett was an intelligent, kind, well mannered, respectful and respectable boy with a bright future ahead of him. Who knows what he could have done with his life. That speaks a lot about his mother as well as Emmett himself. We will be honoring them both in this house when we talk to and teach our grandchildren about what this family went through and what means. That's not enough though. I hope that she is honored in some meaningful way so that people, like my husband, who didn't know about this tragic murder of this boy and the suffering of his mother, might come to know their story and hopefully use it to do some good for the world.
