When restringing a Floyd, the first thing you should do is block it from moving (either under the baseplate or wedging something between the front of the block and body cavity.) If you block it in the general "tuned up" position _before_ you take off the old strings, it'll only take a minute to tune up the new ones. Don't remove the trem block until _after_ you've installed and tuned up the new strings. After it's tuned up, remove the block and you'll barely need to tweak the tuning; then just stretch the strings and lock the nut. If you don't block the Floyd before restringing, you're just making the whole process take twice as long as it should.

***** Bob does mention that he uses a guitar strap to block off the trem and hold it in place. But thanks for reiterating the fact, it certainly makes the job far more difficult and time consuming if you don't!

Wait, that does not seem right. So you tune, then take the trem block out and then stretch the strings? Is that right? I thought - tune, stretch, tune again etc. Once the tune is stable - lock the nut and take the trem block out. Wouldn't you agree?

Don't know if this helps anyone, but when I re-string I just do each string one at a time, while leaving the old ones on. In other words, I don't take them all off at once. So...take off the low E...then replace it...then tune it, then move on to the next one. That way I don't have to tune from scratch the entire guitar. Seems to def save some time!

Not ideal if you’re trying to give the board and body a moderate clean. Kinda the point of the first two videos y’know what I mean

I used to do this and it's not ideal, sure it's easy but it is just simpler to use the backplate covering the springs of your Floyd to hold the bridge in place while you work away, or a strap like this guy in the video. This comment was 3 years ago so maybe you've changed it up but who knows lol.

Noob question, but let's say I get something to hold/block the trem in place to where it is in tune BEFORE I remove the strings, would that make it easier to get it into tune AFTER I restring? I read the other guy's comment and it generally states what I'm wondering, I just want to make sure it's accurate before I clean my guitar and fiddle around with it. Thanks

Hi, is it really necessary to leave enough space for a number of windings around each string tree?

Yep! Multiple winds helps keep the tension of the string so the tuning doesn't slip, a good practice for any guitar :)

A for me. Mine might be due to rushing the process when I brought it home. I also noticed that when I use the tremolo bar it will go out of tune and I can nudge the bar and it goes back into tune. I am almost thinking of blocking the tremolo or looking into changing it out for a different tremolo.
