I am so grateful for her. My own Mother was the antithesis of Martha Stewart, and consequently I knew nothing about caring for myself or a husband when I left home at 18 yrs old. I was well into my twenties before I figured out how to use bleach in the laundry.....sad. And then I found Martha. She taught me EVERYTHING. cooking, baking, cleaning, entertaining, gardening, organizing, decorating and crafts. I'm nearly 60 yrs old now, and I'm still learning from her. Thank you Martha!

Love your story. I was a single male 32 years old and finally had my own apartment. What did I know on maintaining a home? Bed sheet count, removing stains, caring for cast iron, feeding myself. Martha taught me. She even taught me to host my first Christmas dinner - turkey and all the trimmings, homemade pumpkin pie, appetizers and even wine. Thanks Martha!

Martha is first and foremost an educator. Her mother was a teacher. Perhaps this helps explain the old world "sternness" one can sometimes detect. Martha is a great teacher. Always clear and ready to demonstrate efficiently. She should receive an honourary doctorate for all the educating she has done over the years.

Best tutorial out there for me. Only things I'd do a bit differently: I lightly flour the raw meat before braising - seems to add a nice coat of armor to keep those juices in......I use beef stock (as she suggests some do) and I add small white button mushrooms. I also put my carrots in longer before adding the rest, and add the potatoes last b/c carrots are so much harder, and potatoes get mushy if both done at same time. But this is a fabulous tutorial and it is nice to see Martha still doing well after all these years. I like her calm demeanor - she's easy to listen to and goes slow, as if one is visiting a friend. There are so many great tutorials out there - but so many are either missing key components to their tutorial, or are just so emotional and excited that it is difficult to watch. I like zen. Martha seems pretty zen most times.

I made this and it was excellant - no more making it in a crock pot. I used my old, heavy cast iron skillet (4 in sides)......If you have the time and can hang around and check it often, this is the BEST pot roast ever ! My skillet has a lid . I just followed Martha's recipe. I did use some red wine and a bit of red wine vinegar.......I seasoned my meat with seasoned salt, kosher salt, onion powder and black pepper......I also added some chopped garlic to the aromatics and sprinkled some on top of the meat so it wouldn't burn.......I had to add some more water as the cast iron seems to absorb it.....I made it in the oven at around 300 degrees........best ever. Martha knows her stuff !!!

While serving in the Air Force we was served plenty of roast beef, and also corn beef, which I fed to a dog which was suppose to be watching the boat yard the owner had next to where I lived. I worked in the military kitchen on base and took the beef home with me and ate one sandwich or two, and fed the rest to the dog who enjoyed it so much.

Nanny was quite deservedly famous for her pies and cakes, but GRAMPA was in charge of fall-apart roast beef with gravy-soaked browned taters and carrots, tender turkeys, tasty cornbread dressing and yummy potato salad. His chicken salad with white-meat chicken, whipped cream and toasted pecans was to-die-for. (We had it on little crustless finger sandwiches at our wedding. Not a single one was left behind.)

Looks like she’d like to keep it that way...as in “used” to live by.

Love the recipe with the exception of red wine vinegar. I would use a red wine you would drink. 😊🇨🇦

I basically followed her instructions and it came out perfect. The gravy was especially good. I only used salt pepper and water, I forgot the red wine vinegar.

Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart are the most unlikely of Duos but for some reason it just works. Pass Martha some of that green stuff LOL!🤣😂

That is how we do it in the Caribbean where I grew up. All the other versions don't appeal to me.

That looks scrumptious, I'm drooling. With the original veggies that were cooked, after she smashed them down into the strainer; did she throw them away:) Gosh, I would have eaten them. :)
