As a kid watching that game, I remember the pressure was so relentless, that the 49ers got called for holding all day long. It killed many of their drives. The game was actually closer than the score indicated though. only 16-10 entering the 4th quarter and the 49ers gave them short fields with two turnovers twice. Anyways the 84 49ers and the 85 Bears were awesome teams to watch for different reasons. Just think if you could have put the 49ers offense with the Bears Defense.

They were a mess and after that season Walsh drafted Rathman, Haley, Fagan, John Taylor, Tim Mckyer, Don Griffin, Larry Roberts, and Steve Wallace to replace a lot of old guys from the '81-'84 run. Although Buddy Ryan’s 46 defense destroyed Steve Young in a game between the 49ers and Houston Oilers, I think the short passing game and targets like Jerry Rice and John Taylor would have created some huge pass plays that would have elevated the 49ers to a big win much the way Dan Marino picked apart the ‘85 Bears on a Monday Night game.
