Thanks for this video! I'm holding down the fort for a few months while my husband serves overseas, and it helped a lot to see the process in action so I could just fix the garbage-disposal problem myself without needlessly paying a repairman or dragging family from another state to help. Ended up being a simple fix, but I'm glad I had this reference. :)
I cant' tell you how happy you just made me! I dropped a little red decorative rock down my kitchen garbage disposal. I was determined not to pay $100 to have someone fix it for me. Fortunately, I found your video (and the proper allen wrench!). I followed the instruction (unplug, wiggle and reset) & it worked (the fist time it still didn't work but I did it a second time & it did)!!! Thank you so very much for posting this!

Another happy youtuber here who followed your directions on my garbage disposal and it worked like a charm. When I was under there turning the allen wrench back and forth I heard the sound of trickling water. I think I tried everything (unplugging, cleaning, resetting, putting strong cleaning solutions, etc),but after watching your video I used this special tool, made some movements in the center of grinder AND IT WORKED! What a relief. Now I can wash my dishes again and have no smell in the sink :) THANK YOU!!! I don't have a man in the house and I don't need to hire someone.I saved money.

YES JOE DOES KNOW....... They didn't have the jambuster wrench, but they sure had the other one, hex key wrench, 10 pack was on sale at home Depot $2.00, total drum road........$2.18 and it worked like a charm, and I am a female, who bought a condo a year ago, this is the second Joe has come to my rescue :-). Also worked for me...thanks for helping fix my disposal. For those of you who may not know, the wrench I bought (that looks exactly like the one in the video) was called a jam-buster wrench and was in the disposal/plumbing area of my Ace Hardware.

Happiness is fixing it myself! The little red button wouldn't reset, but your second method -- putting an Alan wrench in the center hole -- worked like a charm. Thanks!
FYI...if you ever purchase a mushroom garden and it doesn't work out--say, for example, it just keeps growing blue-green mold, then DON'T put it down the garbage disposal. It may look like tiny particles, but it is actually comprised of small wood chips. I learned two lessons today---how to break my garbage disposal and how to fix it. Learn from my mistake. VideoJoe--you rock! :)

Dude, you're a life saver! This did the trick. The reset button started it back up, but I had a piece of pork bone jammed down in there. I could not get it out until I used a 1/4" allen wrench to reverse it. Thank you so much!!

The Garbage disposal stopped working since the last month and i was too lazy to do something so i left the dishes and i bought new ones.. before watching this video i felt guilty about being lazy and then after i watched it went to the kitchen i couldn't unplug the garbage disposal so i just pressed the red button and it worked !!

Hey Joe, thanks for the advice. I was able to fix our garbage disposal following your instructions. The only thing I need to note is that our garbage disposal had a slot instead of an allen wrench hole. I used a flat head screw driver working the blades back and forth and I fixed it in under a minute. Thanks a bunch!!!
Yes. Thanks so much for asking! I couldn't find a plug for my disposal (I am guessing it is behind the cabinets) so I just went to the breaker and turned off the power for the kitchen. I think the disposal now runs smoother than it did before. Thanks!
Thanks for your message! Not sure why the previous cabinet installer would leave the outlet behind the cabinet back. Look around & you might find it. A wall switch that stopped working or a switch under the kitchen cabinet in the corner or up high? They should have one some where. Put on your inspector hat & find it. Make today great!

Wow, your garbage disposal must be an older model as most disposals have an allen wrench hole & not a slot end. The reason for this is it's easier to dislodge a stuck item by turning an allen wrench around rather than a screw driver. Glad to hear you were able to unclog your disposal. Hey Joe, thank-you thank-you.........watched this went to HD bought the hex wrench, came home called some muscle......and WOW!! THIS WORKS!! and I am so happy that you explained this so clearly.........i did a quick capture image with my pc to get the pic of that smaller wrench, printed it walked into the Home D showed them the pic, spent 6 dollars and now I have a WORKING thing. Wow...I was seriously freaking out about my garbage disposal. I rent a place and I went to turn on the disposal today and it just clicked. I feel like a man thanks.
Joe, I got it working. The problem was the hot or neutral wire had broke off in the conduit and it appeared to be connected. I was able to repair it. Once it did that everything worked. Thanks for the idea of a voltage tester. I was in the dark without it. Guess I'll just keep the new disposal unit haha. It was time for a new one anyway. Thanks Joe!
