    That's SUCH a pro video!! You could be charging serious fees for teaching this sort of thing. Everyone with a dog should be watching this!! Best edutainment I've seen on dog training. 💞

      Oh wow, thanks Amy, I am so glad to hear you say this. I had a lot of technical problems this video so it took way longer than it normally would. It's so encouraging to read your comment. :D :D

    Never had to use treats to teach my collies anything just calm assertive, positive reinforcement and praise. Collies are smart, bred to work ,to do a job,mental stimulation exercise and commitment is what they need. It needs to start from very young I mean like 2months and then its easier ,by 6 months they are trained in all the the basics. Just wish people didn't make it so complicated. So many dogs are given up by 6months because people can't cope can't control them. Because they missed the window.

    lovely video. Saw the door trick to not walk first and did it today ! Ty for that treat trick to learn the puppy not to go first or to chase me.

    SQUIRREL!!! Thank you for addressing these crazy issues. I like how you address it from their perspective. Too often, we look at it from our perspective.

      SQUIRREL YOU BACK!! lol Yes I deal with these issues daily and they are fixable but they do take time, consistency and repetition. Skene has improved a lot and yet I don't see the small improvements each day, yet others notice more. One day he will grow out of adolescence, I hope! ;)

      The Dog Vlog once he grows out his obsessions, you’ll have a well behaved dog. I know you’ve invested so much in him.

      @@YetisPlace I think he came to me to teach me a whole new set of skills! He is such a sweet and loving dog but he definitely has "squirrel brain". One day I do believe he'll be a lot calmer. Small steps take us forward, and we just have to keep going! True of dog training and life in general I find. :)

      The Dog Vlog I think it’s amazing how different each dog is. Chewy knew exactly what I was telling him and vice versa. Yeti tilts his head side to side and communicates with me in dog language and mannerisms that I’ve had to learn.

      @@YetisPlace Yeti is super special and dog training and learning definitely don't have an end point. Asha is a senior now and because her vision is limited I'm having to learn new ways to communicate with her from before. I think it's amazing that dogs try to communicate with us at all!

    Such a great idea to train focus in trees and areas where squirrels tend to be! Our little guy gets very excited by squirrels and it is so hard to counter condition him when I have no idea when they are going to appear! It's hard to back away and try to get his attention with treats when another squirrel could pop out of the trees at anytime. Will definitely be trying this!

    • @TheDogVlog
      @TheDogVlog  4 года назад

      Yes, it's honestly much more effective to counter condition things that aren't as exciting. Then the reaction to turn to you becomes a default and it's easier when there is something really exciting going on. :)

    So I have a 8 month old BC. I think he’s in his little “rebellious stage”. Recently he’s been so defiant. He nipped at my friends kid (who’s 1) and he’s been nipping at me when I’ve been trying to train him. (Especially my hands) I know the training is from him being overexcited, but do you have any advice to calm him down?

    Amazing video! My 9 month old boc puppy absolutely loves balls and fetch. She is pretty well trained and usually reliable off leash, but I always keep a long line on her when I am playing with a ball with her, because she becomes obsessed and fixated on the ball and doesnt listen to me. She is so focused on the ball she wont even look at me, especially if Im holding it. I tried impulse control, where I told her to stay and threw the ball, but while she stays, she considers that a training session and has a different mindset, so it didnt help at all. Please, do you have any advice on how to stop her fixation?

    • @TheDogVlog
      @TheDogVlog  4 года назад +1

      If she loves the ball, I would use the ball as a reward for things. Put it behind your back where she doesn't see it (or in your pocket) then for example, if she has to sit, then you can use it as a reward. Sometimes though, they lose their brains, like my Sprite did about certain foods. So I had to lower the value of her reward and use dry, bland kibble. With your pup, food might be better for training, but you can use her love of fetch to make the reward fun and toss the kibble to her or out where she can get it.
