This was really helpful with sorting out my working line Terv’s behavior. I’ve been working with a positive reinforcement trainer (hoping to compete in agility) who has great results with many different breeds. My dog’s tendency to run behind me when I recall..well..you’re the first person to point out that it’s avoidance, and you haven’t even seen my dog do it. But taking into consideration her reluctant recall, it makes perfect sense now. We’ve been struggling with recall and down, and I can already see a difference in her after doing this for just a few days. Thanks!

My newly adopted 2 year old Aussie loves it when I put a prong collar on her. LOL I conditioned her to relate the prong collar with going out to possibly play with her favorite throwing game. LOL LOL She still pulls hard with her prong collar on when she see a bicycle passing by, but she does not seem to bite the leash any more.

Hey! I see you move your foot out to keep them away from you. Is that for personal boundaries? Do you not use names for recall? I am so new to this but I want to be able to train start to finish.

I see now. My fault. But the moving the foot out when he was running at the begining.

So your recall could be "That'll do" or "Here" any of that sort, correct?
Also your down and recall was super helpful! I've always wondered how you teach them to stay put once you down them.

Horse Lover I use “that’ll do” because I use “here” for a command to come in towards me but don’t quit working, like for sorting and shedding. I don’t use “come” because I use “come by” for my left flank.
