    We had a series of five BC, males and females since the 60's. All were calm, friendly, easily trained and good with other people and other dogs and cats. They did not need a lot of heavy exercise but did enjoy our good sized fenced back yard, games, camping, and walks.

    My border collies recall is terrible. He definitely has gotten better with his old age, but I'll never let him off a leash or outside of a fenced area. He also has had chronic ear problems. Have to always have ear medicine on hand and constantly check/clean them.

    • @TheDogVlog
      @TheDogVlog  3 года назад +1

      Some definitely have better natural recall instincts than others! Even the older dogs can keep learning recall games and can improve. My 2 year old Skene has improved tremendously from a year ago but he still isn't ready to go off lead without a long line in some places. Sorry to hear about the ear troubles.

    As always you are brilliant. I’ve been teaching Aeon fetch for almost 4 years and can finally say he’ll bring the ball back most of the time.🤣 I’m working on teaching him to paint now. We’re working on the basement walls first before I get him into doing the stucco.

    • @TheDogVlog

      lol, we don't do that kind of painting. :) But I'm sure Aeon could do almost anything! I should do a video on teaching fetch. Another person mentioned it too.

    Loved the video and cant' wait for the next one!
    Also, I know you are probably pretty busy with your border collies and making the new video, but I would love some advice on something with my border aussie. You can answer this later if you want, or anyone can give me their opinion, I just would really love some advice. Sometimes I say my dog's name and he will look at me and it seems like I have his attention, but then when I tell him to sit or to lay down he seems like he was looking but not listening so then he looks at me kind of confused. Or he will just do some random trick, I think because he was not totally focused on me when I first said his name? Is there anything I can do to get him focused on me and listening the first time I say his name?

    • @TheDogVlog
      @TheDogVlog  3 года назад +2

      If he is offering tricks then he is really is trying to please you, even if he isn't getting it right. :) So sweet. It's sometimes hard for young dogs to focus. There are things you can do to help him pay attention. If his name gets used in a lot of different contexts then it can be confusing for a dog. If you use his name it should always be when you want his attention or else use another nickname (for example if there are others in your circle who use his name too much for other things). There are lots of games to teach attention in response to names. One I use is to say my dogs name and do a treat toss (I have a video on teaching a dog to catch - ruclips.net/video/Ug42e9ShuJU/видео.html ) Another is to have your dog on a long line, stay fairly close to the dog, toss a treat in front of you on the ground, let your dog eat it, then using your dog's name, run the opposite direction and give a jackpot of tiny treats when he gets to you. Do these games a few times a week and vary them with other recall games. The more you do games that involve the dog coming to you in various ways, the more you will shape your dog's brain to focus on you in response to the words you use for recall, including his name, if that's what you choose. :) Hope that makes sense. I will be doing more recall videos, but there are a few that you may find helpful also on the channel. :)

      I use Fuzzy Fishstick. No joke, it worked. I don’t think the actual word matters. In normal circumstances Fuzzy Fishstick gets me a glance but no real action.

    What brand of no pull harness do you use? Looks like a nice one. I see the double leash,one clipped to chest and the other to top.. Does it work? Mine does not and I have tried two brands..

    • @TheDogVlog
      @TheDogVlog  3 года назад +1

      The brand I have for harnesses is Truelove. I bought mine second hand but they have been good strong harnesses and I love the double clip! I use the front for "steering" and the back for "brakes". They also have fit all my border collies very well and adjust fairly easily.

    Very interesting vid!👍 I never would have thought about how shaving a double coated dog would be detrimental to them🤔. I'm sorry Skeene had that to deal with that in addition to all his other problems... Poor guy really has been through a lot!😥
    I was wondering how that would affect a female getting shaved to be spayed🤔. "Surgically prepped" as they say. Sally was already spayed when I got her and I didn't notice any problem. It had been done years before I got her apparently. Perhaps the belly fur isn't so affected by shaving... 🤔
    I'm learning a lot of things I never would have thought about from this channel!
    Btw, the thumbnail of Raven is VERY handsome! He's coming along so well!👍🐶❤🐾

    • @TheDogVlog
      @TheDogVlog  3 года назад

      Thanks Robert, Raven has pretty prominent ears! lol I don't think the belly fur is as noticeable as the outer coat when shaved. And yes Skene has good reason for his awkwardness in life. But I have faith that he will grow confidence, one small step forward at a time. :)

    Patella? Not Cruciate ? I have a young dog that jumped on to a table andjumped off and came up with his leg up,, seems okay now but my vet seems to think he did a partial tear but he was 4 months when he did it and 9 months andseems good but my friend said could be a patella ot an injury..
    We will x ray when neutered , I am HOPING NOT A TORN CRUCIATE..

    I should be furious with you over my Border Collie.
    Because you talked me into taking him. Yes, you used your psychic powers and made me get a dog who weighs about 25 kilos and in the spring sheds 9 billion times as much fur as the planet can hold. 🤬
    Now that I’ve vented. I have a question. What foul magic is this that turns my beautiful creature into a Shedding Monster ?
    I wonder if we could stop terrorists by sending in Border Collies in the spring and deploying their fur bombs. They’ll be so busy vacuuming and cleaning up that they won’t have time to plot.
