  • This video tutorial goes through the first step of setting up any show in Chamsys - Patching your lighting fixtures. After this step we can build the visualizer, pallets, and effects for our upcoming event that we're working on.
To patch heads into the Chamsys MagicQ Software, use the following syntax:
Quantity @ Universe - Channel / Offset * Starting Head Number
For example, if you wanted 8 lighting fixtures patched to universe 2, channel 1, with 15 channels between each fixture and a starting head number of 101 you would type the following:
    8@2-1/15*101
The offset number and the starting head number are optional so to keep it simple you could just type:
    8@2-1
In this training video we cover how to patch, address, name, and organize the following fixtures:
    - Astera AX5
    - Maverick MK Pyxis
    - Chauvet Rogue R2 Wash
    - Maverick MK1 Spot
    - Ovation 190WW Leko
    - Chauvet Amhaze Whisper II
We also cover how to filter the fixture list while patching.
We start the video with a blank show file.
We finish with the following show file:
In the next video we will cover how to setup the visualizer so we can see what we're doing while we program lights on Chamsys MagicQ.

what i'm hating about all this... is that I can't find anyone at all, showing this with ACTUAL lights. Its all just people using this 'patch' thing, but never actually showing a light connected to the system and working... I've been at it for days now, and nothing I do is getting these lights to actually show LIGHT... I can move them around, I can change the settings of the Gobo, etc... but nothing actually makes the lights 'show light'.... this is getting extremely frustrating... (and yes, i've 'turned up intensity' and i've used 'locate' which turns everything 'fully on', but nothing works. . .

What do I do if my light brand isn't listed in the options to patch in?

You'll have to patch a generic fixture and find something that matches. RGB, etc.
