For me personally, I really miss the og minecraft let’s plays where not everything is about how much and how big you build. I would appreciate seeing more gameplays where the creator directly talks to us instead of a voice over and timelapses every second

your channel was my first introduction to it all when we were all stuck at home because of lockdowns, but now its over. personally, i liked the old videos. i just want to watch someone build something and be unique. i am so tired of all the same videos, with the random meme clips that make no sense, the same music montages, sound effects, and attention getting big build competitiveness. hardcore minecraft in itself is not particularly interesting, why would i want the world you put a lot of effort into get deleted, the stakes have no value for me as a viewer. i still enjoy watching minecraft but all the new new trends have just killed it for me and taken out all the interesting things people can do on their own. unfortunately that isnt a good business model i guess so only a hobbyist will probably do it, but the empires of the big creators will suddenly crash when no one cares anymore (and no more money in it for them). and only the hobbyists will be left.

I think hardcore takes away from the core of minecraft RUclips in some ways. I enjoy watching people goof off and go on adventures as well as the builds, but it feels like a lot of hardcore creators end up doing a lot of same-y build things and not just having fun. It's a rush to get a stacking raid farm and full netherite armour, then do a lot of, while admittedly very cool, very *safe* projects that put your world at very little risk. It's completely understandable, with the medium of hardcore, but it starts to get repetitive and a little boring. Never mind the concern for burnout for creators (though obviously that's very important) it starts to feel like a lot of hardcore MCTYers are all slight variations on the same person

I personally have gotten very bored with the “I built blah blah blah farm in Hardcore” vids. Like projects like that aren’t video worthy to me. Definitely like you said with the copy pastes.
There are for sure some creators like yourself that are making original builds and awesome vids.

I would like the old school content to come back. I would rather have more content that is easier to produce. Plus it feels more relatable to how I feel when I’m playing the game.

Hardcore videos seem to be "I built this op farm" like 50 times. Then they make a new hardcore series and make the same op farm

I agree one some points and disagree on others. Saying that content creators need to reflect and change their content rather than complaining about the trends is at face value true - but all the other factors you mentioned in the video is why they’re complaining. If someone build their channel on some specific ways to play and edit their videos, they shouldn’t have to change their content to fit these newer trends. That would only alienate their current fanbase, possibly make the creator burnout and risk just becoming another one of hundreds that do the exact type of content.
For me the worst part of this trend is the lack of creativity in the form of repeated video ideas as you mentioned, but also the way most of the creators doing these hardcore style videos also edit their videos similarly and have similar visuals - why does every timelapse have to have a progress bar showing how long there is until the build is over? And why does everyone use the same 5-10 sound effects and background music. I do follow a handful of creators that do these videos and sometimes I actually mix them together and confuse them from one another. I think this also results from the fact that everything has to be bigger and better, since if a project takes months to build then there’s less time to think of innovative ideas, block pallets, way to use items and blocks previously not seen often before. This is why I personally think someone like BdoubleO is one of the best content creators - each episode he builds some buildings, some bigger than others of course, but often trying to implement new ideas, take inspiration from real world architecture previously not seen in Minecraft, or trying to innovate how to shade large scale builds. Someone like Etho also comes to mind since he also tries to innovate as much as possible but not only in building but in his redstone machinery too. That’s also a factor you didn’t mention in the video - Hardcore RUclipsrs rarely ever design their own redstone but instead finds the easiest and best tutorial by RaysWork or Ilmango and copy that, resulting in seeing the same farms over and over again. I actually didn’t even know that this was an issue discussed on twitter/other social media, but something I’ve felt for the last years time, and one of the main inspirations for me to start doing RUclips videos as a hobby: to show people new methods of thinking, trying to be creative with what’s in the game, rather than building another zoo with every single hostile mob in the game or every biome.

I think it's because there are two different camps. Those who like inspiration, and those who like to play along. I myself like to play along. When a creator makes more frequent manageable video, I love it. Play minecraft while having my laptop open to the side watching long let's play.

Personally, I hate the super short, high effort "brief summary" videos. I want to see the game played, not "here's what I did". I've basically quit watching Minecraft videos because of it. I also unsubbed from your main channel a long time ago because of it.

It's gonna depend on each person individually as to what they like to watch. I personally only watch single player let's plays of my friends, bc I'm not that into the genre, hardcore as well I'll watch my friends content, but not actively seek it out more.
Personally I LOVE watching collaborations/smp content instead, so that's what I am to create/actively seek out.
Personally I'm not mad at any trends, bc I'm just thankful that Minecraft is even still popular in 2023 xD. Great video too, I appreciate your thoughts!

I remember watching Wadzee's netherite beacon video and wondering why he did that. He spent something like 6 months exploding TNT in the nether, had some kind of burn-out or depression iirc, all that just for a video where he builds a netherite beacon, that's just pointless...
I kinda felt that with your video where you blow up the swamp and make a cyberpunk city, I felt like "yeah great build but was destroying the swamp really THAT necessary ?" when you were pesting about how long it took
Another thing is the Hardcore thing, the actual Hardcore gameplay where if you die you're supposed to delete your world. First of all, once you get Netherite P4 Armor + Feather falling + Totem of undying (around episode 2 probably), you're almost invincible so the whole Hardcore thing falls apart. Second of all, a youtuber I watch admitted that he had died but uploaded a backup because he didn't want the series to end and clearly said that he was just doing it in Hardcore for the trend but didn't intend on losing his save if he died. And for people who it is their job well yes, of course, if you lose your save that might impact your vidéo, hence your views and income ; but then what's the point of Hardcore if it's just for the video title...
I watch Hardcore series because I like to see auto farms working in sync, I like to see great buildings made in survival, and I like having a nice dude explaining how he arranged the farm so it'll work in his build, or telling me what he is going to build and showing me his sources and inspirations. Remove the Hardcore part and that's exactly the same for me.
Very interesting question though, and it's good to see some introspection too !

as a small channel, I loved this video and I agree with you completely! The production levels are at all time highs BUT it’s so hard to even watch RUclips nowadays because everybody takes forever to upload! it’s this really weird balancing act of scale of video vs time spent recording/editing. I hope eventually the time spent in game dials back a little bit, while keeping the really entertaining editing of modern mc videos

I don't agree with minecraft on youtube being same-y as you say. The hardcore world or build videos feel oversaturated and same. I can understand why minecraft youtubers are losing views but I feel like they are not unique. Being unique is very important. Two youtubers that come to mind is ShadowMech and Forge Labs they can make anything and it will feel fresh and new. They both have very unique and likeable personalities and focus on the story of the video and not on the idea. Everytime I watch one of their videos its very engaging and they both don't seem to be losing views.

I just like builds. I don’t really care whether it’s seeing progress updates in a survival series or a RUclipsr that posts 4-5 times a year. The difference being I have no connection and much less of a reason to subscribe to the new style of RUclipsr. I much prefer hermitcraft to one-off builders that try to please the algorithm.

I watch content creators I like rather than what they do.
Sure it has something to do with the content. But that's far less important to me.
And I really don't care if its hardcore or not. Aside from a very small amount of situations hard-core doesn't even matter, like none at all and it matters far less after you get totems and netherite, which doesn't take long.
Unless someone has a multi year old world its not all that special.
And being able to die in game opens up a lot of possibilities hard-core players can't.
It is definitely the age of smp's though.
