Makes me sad that kids in the future will never get to experience the joy of playing a game boy at daycare or school. Or trying to squeeze out just five more minutes because it’s getting dark and the screen isn’t backlit. Man those were the days. Gaming felt more fun because you were willing to tolerate rough around the edges because it was a game on the go. The 3DS and 2DS are both ends to an era.
Yup,playing superMario or looney toons game on gameboy was pain but it was soo fun for 7 yr old me
Kids these days don’t put up with any inconvenience when it comes to gaming anymore. I was watching a 20 year old live streaming Sonic 2 a year ago and when he found out he had to jump on the moving platforms with Sonic in the Chemical Plant Zone to continue in the level, he literally gave up after 3 tries and ended the stream. This generation has no patience with that kind of stuff anymore.

The 3ds is a high quality product. I don’t feel like it was rough around the edges. The game boy or game boy advance I would agree.
3ds for life man, I've been playing my 3ds 24/7 recently. The entire 3ds/ds family was absolute fire.
I agree, Greyson. I bought a 3DS from lukiegames (and no, I didn't have any major issues with it) and I instantly loved it when I bought eshop exclusives like Kirby's Adventure 3D, the Pushmo series and an underrated Castlevania-clone called Soul of Darkness (I'm serious, it's really good!).

@@kenterminateddq5311 just because you had no issues doesn’t mean it was properly refurbished. 3DS’s are a nightmare you work on, if anything I think it’s the one console I wouldn’t trust really anybody to work on unless I knew them personally.

In my opinion, this is the perfect member of the 3DS family. It has the new hardware, the larger screens, and the clamshell design of the 3DS without the 3D
Back in the day I immediately threw the console in "never" brain category because it repulsed me to be paying extra for 3D developent and hardward when it would just hurt my eyes.
So I missed the 2DS XL release and I'm sad. If I find one cheap someday I'll get one. Even a functional Chinese knock-off would do.
The 3d is underrated imo.
I always had it up full in most games and I still do.
Games like Luigi's Mansion 2, A Link Between Worlds, Star Fox 64, Pilotwings and Mario Kart 7 all looked great with 3D.
It definitely made things more immersive and to me the image looked sharper.

What do you mean underrated? 3DS is is the most successful handheld device Nintendo has ever accomplished last gen. It's arguably the most successful they have last gen, which they needed because the Wii U is not doing well in terms of sales. I can understand calling the Wii U underrated in some sort of way, but the 3DS?

I completely agree. The glasses-free 3D is truly awesome.
I brought my 2DS XL in 2020 and hit it with that home brew and own the entire ds library, one of my better decisions in life

3DS/WiiU era was the best era when it comes to gaming. Their E3’s were so magical. Getting street passes and using miiverse made me feel I was actually part of the gaming community.

I just bought one of these used from Japan for $160. Hacked it and got the H Shop and now I've got soooo many games I've never played before. Recommended.

I hope dedicated handhelds make a comeback, as I think its better to have games optimized for handheld gaming and the battery life on such a console can be extended past a couple hours. I also think its just cool to have more variety and a whole different subset of games to pick from.

Yup. I got one from a guy who bought one there and he never opened it. Sold it to me for $60 with a copy of Link Between Worlds included.

I had tp order powerbank from Amazon because here stores charge 200% to 300% more. Got a 2-pack of Iniu 10 000mAh for $40. They work great.
I recently started modding all of my 3ds's, it's honestly so fun to take to work and play some box boy or whatever virtual console stuff i have installed. Paired with some QOL updates, personal tweaks, it's really an amazing console that has so much potential. Get one, even if you don't plan on modding it.
I mod gameboy DMG, color, advance and sp as a hobby as well. I love it so much.
If you don’t plan on modding it don’t get one

@@MTNDEWGANG Better off getting a DSi XL for that. DS games look like blurry trash on 3DS, with the scaling it does and lack of pixel grid (although that's down to preference, I suppose).
I LOVE the 3D in the 3DS....I ALWAYS play in full 3D. If I go see a movie, and it has a 3D option, you can bet I'll be watching that!
I got the og 3ds for my 11th birthday in 2011, and I loved that thing to death. I got Mario kart 7 a few weeks later as my first game and played it straight for a year as it was the only game I had lol. When the 3DS was new, it seemed so cutting edge to me, with much better graphics over the ds and having a 3D screen was mindblowing also. Looking back at the 3DS now it seems so ancient, but I still love playing it of course. I will always cherish and have a soft spot for the 3DS era, I’m glad I got to grow up with it.

I loved my original 2ds when it came out! I remember bringing it with me everyday to community college and so many other people in the cafeteria had one so we would all play the Mii games together Pokémon and smash bros and collected all the little picture frames together. I also loved that I used it as my step counter lol I’ll never forget those days, better days for sure ❤️🙏🏽 Nintendo made an amazing product with the 3DS line, I’ll forever cherish those memories.

Ive been playing a ton of 3ds lately. And having such a blast i recently played through super mario 3d land for the first time and had a blast every step of the way. There are so many games for the 3ds that i never got to play when i was a kid that i have recently picked up and been playing. Its been so much fun and enjoyable.
I just put Hshop on mine, and I absolutely love it. I would recommend it.
Wish we would get more unboxings and tech review. News updates are okay, but I’ll always support videos like this one.
Hearing you refer to the 2ds as retro made me shed a tear for my 12 year old self deliberating for over an hour before picking up my very first videogame purchased with my own money - Ocarina of Time 3D. I think I made a good choice.

I got a N3DS in 2016 and I regret not getting another one, Such a fantastic system and library, a shame it was held back by oddities like not providing GBA or SNES games from the start, and the store lacking functionality that would have made things easier. Still though it was the last of its kind to offer pro consumer features that the switch got rid of, Buying emulated games that can also be played locally with a second 3ds acting as the 2nd controller, themes, backwards compatibility, free online multiplayer, 3D effect which why did we never get virtual boy games?!? Goodbye old friend you deserved more praise.

It’s so sad. I had so many great memories with the 3DS and DS games over the years. I graduated in 2018 and slowed down after and a bit before on these consoles for obvious reasons. But I always knew they were special to me and still remember all the great times I had with my friends or even just playing the games online. Mario Kart 7 being my most played online for the 3DS. However even when I slowed down. I still went back and played when I could. I know it’s time to move on but man I wish the 3DS was still relevant and the store was still online. I agree that we won’t have another strictly handheld console or at least get handheld only titles anymore. Considering the technology has advanced so much that we can get something like the switch and even better with whatever is cooking up next. Thanks for the great products Nintendo. Even tho you don’t handle some things as well as we think you should.
Fire Emblem Warriors & Xenoblade almost make it worth it alone.
With a modded “new” model 3DS you can enable l2 cache & 804mhz in older games bringing ludicrous speed increases with loads of games.
Splinter Cell 3D with speed bump applied runs at a locked 60fps in 2D & nearly locked 60fps in 3D. Same with Rayman 3D but it’s always at 60 in 2D or 3D. Fixes any performance drops on MGS3D, Ridge Racer 3D, RE:Revelations & probably 100+ more idk about that ft massive increases.
Let alone all the new 3DS enhanced games, homebrew ports of Half Life, Quake 1/2/3, Duke 3D & a billion more. Love it

the 3ds was my 1st actual console that i got, and to see it die out is sad for me as it is one of my favourite Nintendo consoles.
I already miss this era of nintendo. the n2ds was a great send-off to a amazing line of handhelds.
I got one of these for 100usd at walmart around the pandemic. Wish I bought a second. Nintendo also released the n3dsxl refurbed on their site for like only 130usd or so. Def missed out
Super Mario 3D Land is one of my favorite platformers. So many great memories of that game.
The 3DS/2DS series are also pretty much the last handhelds, not counting throwback handhelds with old games pre-installed but no cartridge slots and also not counting unofficial "Chinesium" emulation handhelds with thousands of ROMs, that are remotely "pocketable".
I feel like, if a handheld isn't small enough to at least fit in a jacket pocket, it takes away a lot of the appeal and convenience of having a handheld if I have to carry it in a separate bag (or just be holding it all of the time, even when I'm not using it).
I still play my New Nintendo 3DS XL Super Nintendo Edition to this day! Currently playing through Pokemon Ultra Sun.

When a product releases, everything for its basic operation needs to be in the box. I bought my first "new" 3ds after last having a GBC. And wouldn't have known about no power brick in the box without youtube reviews.
I remember unboxing my 3ds xl Christmas 2014 good times. Last year I modded it and installed ctgp7 and played mk7 the right way
I picked up a really good condition ds lite for $30 back in 2018 just for that GBA slot.
Still have my 3ds xl and new 3ds xl.. never giving those up. Such a great console.

The PS Vita is twice as powerful as the New 3DS.
I bought the same one for my nephew back in 2019, they were going for $100 at Walmart...now I regret not getting one for myself too lol.
I have an original 3DS XL, a New 3DS XL, and two New 2DSXL systems. They are all hacked and I can play Animal Crossing on them and go to the island and have the 3 others stand around so bugs don't pop up in those spots and have the beetles pop up on the trees faster.
Just bought mine yesterday. Only had the original DS as a kid and the New 2DS XL is the absolute best for me. Homebrew, large screens, fast hardware, easy access micro-SD card. And all the games and spicy custom themes and splashes im amazed.
I'm actually playing Resident Evil Revelations for the first time on the New 3DS XL (I've already played it on PC muitiple times) and it's amazing to see what the console is capable of doing.
I don't consider the 2DS or the 3-D S to be retro just yet. I also like these kinds of videos keep making them this one was pretty good.
Yep. I don't consider the Vita to be retro either. I use it regularly so never got the feeling of reviving something that is old.

Homebrew your 3DS. Since Nintendo won’t keep a legitimate storefront and physical brick and mortar stores don’t carry DS games anymore at least GameStop doesn’t. It is the only good way to get and play multiple games without breaking your bank getting games secondhand, and it’s very easy to homebrew it.
The 3DS line is also so ridiculously easy to softmod it’s almost obligatory setup for the system. There are literally no disadvantages to doing so and a five year old could muddle through it.

7:27 I've had two Circle Pad Pro attachments (one for my regular 3DS and the one I still have for my 3DS XL), and they both made my 3DS way more comfortable to hold. I enjoy having it on there even when I'm not playing a game that makes use of it.

Feels like 2014 all over again when I first watched your videos my first one being your 2DS review. I own every model of the 3ds, and I actually still play mine to this day, cause all the DLCs I got especially trying the finish up the stories on Fire Emblem...
I just bought a new 3ds xl (I have 3 3ds’s but each had their own problems) for a pretty good price in almost perfect condition. I would have loved a factory sealed system but those are mad expensive. But I just got one to hack it for the first time and now I’m just wishing I’ve done it sooner. The possibilities are endless with a modded system.
My 1st handheld system was the GB Color with Pokemon Silver which I loved so much that when I learned about Emulation years later. I still play it, Pokemon Blue, Red, and Yellow ever now and then on my phone.
Richard, you actually could take 3d pictures on the 2ds, but it was funny because the only way to see them in 3d is by transferring to the 3ds 😂

I have one of these for the sole purpose of having something to play the 7 DS/3DS pokemon games I have. I've gotten rid of all of the other games I had for the platform at this point.

I hope the switch gets an attachment for ds games . Also they should make a new ds hopefully there’s a market for it in the future for me I would use a dedicated handled if it had story games that were mainline like god of war . But switch is amazing
Years ago all my possessions were stolen. I lost my original gameboy pocket I got as a kid, my Gameboy advanced SP, my special Pokémon black dsi, and my new 3ds XL with a special Pikachu case i bought for it (plus all my Pokémon games including Pokémon yellow my very first Pokémon game, and my Pokémon Emerald i logged over 1000 hours into as a kid).
I have a switch now, but nothing can replace all those memories packed into all those games 😔
The 3ds XL is one of the greatest consoles of all time because of that gimmick 3d. Even today that stuff is fun to play around with.
I got lucky that i kept my new 3ds capture card... since it now belongs to an era that'll soon be forgotten

Pilotwings Resrort is still the only game that really makes the 3d feature work and not feel like a gimmick other than that it is indeed a gimmick.

I got the first 3DS in 2012 and my go I was blown away by the 3D, I also loved the design although it was a little cramped. but I remember playing Mariokart7 online and Swapnote with friends and Super Mario 3D land which looked amazing on that system. It was like a pocket Wii. In 2020 I purchased a New 3DS XL with the C stick and big screens. I Homebrewed it and installed a tonne of games and it remains my favourite system for long journeys. I use it to this day
I think retro applies more to the 15 year old-25 year old items, but it will be very retro soon

I got my first brand new 2DS XL back in 2020 and a used one in 2021. Was glad I got to play some old Kirby games and Pokemon games on 3DS and DS.

Fomo'd pretty hard during the start of covid and found my new 3ds xl with 3 games (both zelda remakes and Mario 3d land) for 125 barely used on CL. Fell in love with it and play it frequently to this day. All the Zeldas and Metroid Samus Returns are top teir games that deserve a play thru
