This is a cracking breakdown, lads! No doubt, PIF will take us step by step to the very top. But looking at what’s going on, we’re still miles behind in a lot of areas. It’ll take time, just like Arsenal didn’t give Arteta all the backing at the start, it was a gradual process. Eddie needs to keep working his magic on the pitch, and go hand in hand with Paul and the rest of the team behind the scenes. As fans, we’ve got to stick UNITED, keep pushing the lads, and back the boys through thick and thin. The Toon Army isn’t just here for the glory days; we’re here for the journey.

Trouble in paradise. This is the interview you give when playing the politics. He aimed so many comments directly at Eddie here. Called Eddie a liar about being in the loop. Criticised the transfer business prior to his own arrival, which he really was limited in his ability to do considering the high success rate of incomings, so restrained himself to the limited outgoings to brand the entire transfer strategy unfit for purpose.
Mentioned Eddie's "smarts" half a dozen times which is exactly like saying he doesn't have any. Shifted the entire failure of the window onto Eddie, essentially calling him (Eddie) a liar about transfer involvement, and highly critical of Eddie's domestic focus vs European.
Finally, he advertised Eddie's availability to the FA. There'll be a battle now between these two behind the scenes. I hope if push comes to shove, Paul Mitchell is out and King Eddie remains.

Great summary lads, interested to read your full article Don when it’s out. The message you and Liam are putting over is something which I have been leaning toward for the last 6 months. We all knew things were not all as it seemed at the club. This summer has payed out what has been going on as far as they are willing to discuss. People use the phrase bump in road but I would say this has been a crossroads moment for the club. They have looked one way and seen the path that lay ahead with the goings on in the last 2 windows and realised it is not sustainable and decided they head down other road.
Time will tell if this is the right road or not.
For me the, the management structure and team assembled to drive the club forward have not been recruited to just make small decisions on the future direction of the club. They are all top candidates from their respected fields of work. The projects that they are being requested to deliver will be very sizeable and will have a huge impact on the club and the direction we are heading.
We as fans have to accept that mistake are going to be made and disappointments are going to happen, that why we all love the beautiful game. But as you both stated we have to be patient. That does. It mean we will not succeed we just have to realise that it is going to take time. Our owners are not going to cut corners or look to break rules to get ahead. They will do everything within the rules of the game. We may not like it, especially when other seem to be getting away with it in plain site, but the owners will not act in this manner.
I’m still onboard for the ride and if it takes longer then so be, at least we are going to get the ride we never thought we would.😉🏴🏳️👍🏻

You think tunnel vision for Guehi. Consider Guehi is right footed but plays on the left for Palace and delivers anazing long crossfield passes tp escape a high press. So Guehi could cover on the left for ACL Botman, and when Botman is back on the left then Guehi can ultimately replace an ageing Schar on the right.

Great video guys. Love getting your view on this because when I first read it, the overall impression for me was that whilst I agreed with a lot of what he said regarding scouting and the future & that he distanced himself from the Guehi Saga in a way. How Eddie will react to that we will see.
I think like most people, I am concerned that we were willing to overpay for Guehi. I still question where Eales was in this because ultimately if anyone could say to Eddie look it has be someone else, it's time to move on, it should be him.
I still think mistakes were made & they were wrong not to invest the money in some potential which could build revenue or the squad. The Elanga thing at the end, was that mentioned? We surely could have improved on RW easier.

If I am honest, I just do not believe the club has an inability to line up options to first choice transfers. It is also well known that Paul Mitchell was working in the background before he was announced and Ashworth situation sorted.. I agree with Liam, until big ticket cheques get written for training ground then I reserve the right to doubt just a little. I hope the dynamic between Mitchell and Howe grows positively. If I were Howe, I’m not sure I’d be feeling all that secure with some of the messaging from Mitchell.
What we do know, the ‘Newcastle United tax’ still exists and there are no friends when it comes to transfers from other PL clubs. In that sense, Mitchell is right if saying that club need to look to Europe and beyond. Whether that means targeting 1st team ready additions like Bruno, Botman and Isak (as seen in Howe influenced recruitment to date), or a different approach, remains to be seen.
Anyway, Mitchell has put his marker down. Let’s hope that he can walk the walk.

People forget very quickly about the " Newcastle Tax " clubs apply to every potential approach for a player transfer to the toon. Mitchell is following the same doctrine Amanda was tasked with on this one.
The latest partnership with Red Bull is another example of just how fast the club is coming up the rails on the cheating six, and very soon PSR will be much easier to navigate. Should Man City win their case against the Premier league the potential for unlocking the Saudi riches is astronomical.

Buying a proven PL player and England international is as close to a "sure thing" in the transfer market as you'll ever get. No chance they won't adapt to the PL, no chance they won't settle in the area or learn English, no questions he can handle pressure at a higher level, very little chance he'll get homesick etc.

So why did the Newcastle negotiating team not know this and pull out of the deal weeks before they did to allow them to go for an alternative? It's nothing to do with PSR, its just plain common sense: "Eddie we are being played, we must look at an alternative. If there are no CBs lets go for a RW and not totally waste the window".

The word I'd use to describe the clubs recruitment policy post takeover is 'opportunistic'... A lot of big transfers (Bruno, Tonali, Isak) seemed like the club went looking for situations where we could buy a player we'd have no real right getting in normal circumstances. That sometimes is strokes of genius alla Bruno, Gordon which ended up brilliant business taking advantage of Everton's finances... But it's off the cuff. Go out and see who we can snipe. Same thing with Guehi and it really didn't work. Club thought Guehi with 2 years on his deal was one we could take advantage of and it's failure has exposed that method. Mitchell probably wants long shortlists with multiple targets where we won't just search for the "best" player where there's an opportunity, but looks to buy at good value from long term information.

In January we should hopefully have Sven and Jamal back, therefore we wont be desperate to spend £70m on a CB, by then we might be desperate in another position, or with player sales such as a GK or RW, there maybe an academy prospect comes.good like Lewis Miley. I just hope that whatever happens, the fans have patience with the club, because if the fans force out Howe, we could get a manager in who does more harm than good, like a Ruud, or a Kinnear, or Mourinho who could cause havoc.

After howes comments in germany i got the feeling that howe wasnt happy, by then he woukd if knew that mandy was on her way out and everyone was still shook about the psr debacle that had just happened. All this just as mitchell is coming in and the transfer window starting. It felt like it had killed eddies enthusiasm a bit and to be fair to Mitchell he was coming in probably expecting some sort of plan for the window to be in place ready for him to work which doesn't seem to of been the case. Its not like hes gunna start scouting for positions when the window is already in full swing the lists should of been in place ready for him. It feels like eddie could of give him more to work with but hes stubborn at the best of times and it felt to me like Eddie has been a little bit difficult on purpose with transfer targets, maybe trying to prove a point.
Im hoping we can get passed the jan window without having to panic buy so we can at least benifit from saving this money we just have to hope bruno, isak etc give us at least 1 more year after this season. I think Gordon is probably the most likely to leave out of the 3.

The question here is are context, that being Newcastle pre takeover had the smallest squad in the premier league. To come back from that lack of depth you can only invest to build the foundations.
That means at the start replacing / selling foundational players destroys the foundations you are building.
Now we are at a stage where to kick on from mid table / top 8. You will need to sell. But saying over the last 3 years we didn’t sell is removing the context of why we are where we are. So that’s a really bad excuse.
Selling to replace after this season is fine, but you need the revenue from 3 league positions above 7th. That proves we are in the mix, to incoming players and to the clubs you have to sell players too. Proves the 2 seasons were just a blip after 14 years of relegations and 16th places.
Please push back on the context and the fact you can’t remove this. I don’t think not buying anyone is a major failure.

Paul Mitchell appeared rather defensive in his statement. Telling us that they won’t stand in Eddie’s way if England come calling was something I’m not comfortable to hear. Our owners aren’t England fans, so they should try and keep him. Interesting attitude from Mitchell. The bottom line is I don’t trust him that he’ll try to work well with Eddie Howe.

I get the sense that the professional/personal gap betweeen Howe and Mtchell is quite wide, both seemingly blaming each other for the TW debacle. I still believe that Howe will be the England boss in 12 months time and the new head coach (Guardiola.....) will have a £200 million warchest. Teflon Darren's position must be under threat.
Moving forward, the academy must be a priority (been saying that for 40 years!) as either a provider of first teamers or else as a source of revenue.
Finally, Bruno is very ordinary as a '6'. Has to be played as an '8' so he can supply Isak with better service.

I'm optimistic that Gordon, Isak and Bruno are here when we get trophies - they all bought into the project and it will only take a few more players for us to have a more consistent challenge in the top 4.
If some of our youth players can perform on loans I'd hope we can use a bit of the Chelsea model to fund transfers for key players. Also, working on making our academy the best in the world - and growing the best players rather than buying them.

There may be elements of overlap, or singing the same tune, or however you want to put it, but there are some specific, quite firm contradictions - particularly in terms of Howe's involvement, and also the (denied by Howe) accusation that Howe wanted "Guehi or nothing" - which seems. to have been confirmed by Mitchell

As for Eddie, i think he has done amazing but i cant get my head around his reluctance on keeping players and praising them who are clearly not good enough or young enough in order to get money in and replace them with better. I compare him with elite managers and think would pep or klopp keep a miggy or a hayden or a burn, longstaff, wilson, dubs in the 1st team or even the squad or would they replace them in order to move forward? What then, this would put us back even further in years as we would have to try and recruit again that quality of player. Who would be interested when we become a selling club. Finally can you imagine the depression around the club and fans if these players ended up.at Arsenal, City or Liverpool.
