    I decided to go bolder with the color instead of one of my usual fave colors. I chose Heartland Haleakala...a beautiful chartreuse... it's gorgeous !!!
    Heartland yarn is a perfect choice for a lot of garment patterns. I'm more of an advanced crocheter and love quick projects for myself, and do more complicated patterns for others and gifts. So this pattern was great a project to try for myself first. Thanks Jess! ❤

    I have made 2 of these now, and here is what I learned: The grit stitch is kind of a thermal stitch. It's a great stitch for this sweater, but it takes FOREVER. For the first sweater, I used a medium weight acrylic yarn, and I almost gave up because it was such a grind. It took me 20 hours to complete the sweater. The second one I did, I used Cascade Eco + 100% wool yarn which is bulky weight. This went much faster, it's a lovely yarn that isn't too expensive, and because it's 100% wool it didn't end up too heavy which would weigh down the stitch. When starting the rectangle, I used 2 strands of yarn for the foundation chain, hoping that the measurement from foundation chain to stitch wouldn't shrink. Even then, the measurement shrunk by a lot once I got going. I wanted my panel to be 41" wide, so I made sure my foundation chain was at least 46" long. I did not add the butt extension for the second sweater. I found I could see a transition where there was tension, and it pulled the collar portion where the extension begins. It was plenty long enough for me without it anyway. I didn't have any problems with the collar bunching, maybe because I used 2 strands together for the foundation chain. At the very last row of the collar, I chained 2 and then did a border row of hdc along the bottom. For the sleeves: I ended up removing the sleeve and going without, as for some reason the sleeves just didn't sit right and made me look like I have popeye forearms. I couldn't get the length of the sleeve quite right anyway, due to the drapeyness of the sweater. Hopefully these little details are helpful to someone! It's a beautiful and easy pattern.

    • @carladoolittle
      @carladoolittle Год назад

      I'm having that problem with the extension pulling on the collar also. The bottom of the collar from the extension down is curving inward like a "c" shape on both sides. I've already ripped it out and started over, but it's doing it again. Any insight? I'm using a bulky yarn with size 9mm hook.

    • @nadayamcneil4917
      @nadayamcneil4917 Год назад

      @@carladoolittle even without the extension it happened a bit as well. Adding the border along the bottom may help. But it doesn't really look too bad in the end, even on the first sweater I made that definitely had the C shape you describe.

    I would consider myself an intermediate crocheter and started this piece with the same yarn and hook size yesterday. I am 20 rows in, so I am not going to start over, but I would like to state that the gauge you gave for this piece was a ways away from what I have made. I didn't have a ruler on hand and was following along with the written pattern, so I could be to blame, but it seems a little far fetched in myt opinion. I am making a small and the width in the pattern is 38.5 inches for the beginning rectangle and I have ended up with a width of 31 inches! I'm sure this will just make do for a more snug piece but my mind is kind of blown away with the difference... this is just a heads up to anyone wanting to start this project!

      Hello, I just started this cardigan and noticed your question. I’m having the same problem, but I’m only 3 rows in. I printed the pattern out and also making a small. She states that the Finished rectangle dimensions width is 41.5 and height is 22”. I’m using same yarn and needles but I’m coming up with 30 for width and I am a loose crocheter. I just can’t figure her numbers out. Do you think going up a size in the hook would help. I’m also sorry for asking you all these questions and thank you if you have any advice. I left a message for her but she hasn’t responded.

    Thank you for this! I went ahead and purchased the PDF pattern. I figured it was the least I could do since you put all the work into this. I have 2 sets of crochet hooks that both go up to 6mm and then I have a few super big ones. But no 6.5mm. GAH! And I was just at Michaels! Guess I'll start on the sleeves. :)

    Hey sweetheart, I absolutely love this tutorial. The shrug design and the color you've chosen complement each other perfectly. I have yet to make any type of crochet garments besides scarves, shawls, hats, gloves, you know nothing actually like a sweater or a cardigan, so this will be my very first crocheted piece that I can actually wear on something besides my neck, head, or hands, LOL. I have always been so intimidated just to try to crochet some type of sweater but I feel like I might succeed in steppibg out into the dark unknown as you have explained things down to the finest details, of what is always a nightmare to me, which is the dreaded stitching pieces your of work together(amongst other things) You truly are an excellent teacher... Thank you for taking the time to do what you do. I so enjoy your Channel. Keep On Keepin On!

    I experienced difficulties with this pattern, specifically that despite using the recommended yarn and hook size, it was impossible to achieve the stated tension/gauge, even when I tried different hook sizes. Eventually I gave up and used the hook size recommended. However the finished garment was a more snug fit that what it appears in the photo. Additionally two other crochet friends also experienced identical issues. This leads me to conclude that the issue is with the pattern itself rather than my individual style of crochet and tension. Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend this pattern.
    Additionally I also experienced some difficulties with the sleeves.
    They are crocheted widthways. Consequently I had to take care to avoid a wobbly edge and/or holes due to turning chains.
    Neither of which look good on a sleeve edge.
    There's a few techniques available to manage these issues, however I would've expected that the pattern discussed this particularly as it's aimed at beginners who may not have the expertise to be aware of these problems.
    I also found that the yarn didn't wash and wear well. It quickly went bobbly and the whole garment stretched considerably, this is despite carefully following the washing instructions.
    I would like to advise others about these issues, as it can be terribly disappointing to spend time making a garment to find that it is not as expected, and it can also be a waste of money as well as your time 😢

      I had gauge issues as well. The first time I made this I winged it and made it smaller than recommended so I could finish it...I'm a bit impatient, but surprisingly it fits perfectly. I'm working on a second sweater for my GodMother and I had to start over 3 times to get the right width for the original rectangle. It could be the yarn I'm using but I noticed the more rows I crochet it tended to shrink more until it evened out. Eventually I got it right but I love this pattern dearly and I'm thankful she took the time to make the video.

    I’m working on the sleeves now ~ I’m using the chain amount in (...) to make the sleeves but I’m using a thinner yarn 🧶 than yours ~ that is the reason I purchased the pattern so i can work on the “inch given ~ however there are no “inch on the sleeves? Please can you email or provide me with the sleeve measurements?
