    For some years now, MG's focus has been on providing affordable transport for the masses, rather than sporting vehicles on which the marque cut its teeth under British stewardship. This approach has paid dividends on the sales charts, but until now, nothing in the lineup really catered for enthusiasts.
    The 2024 MG MG4 XPower is a very serious effort to capture the performance market and, on paper appears to be a true return to form for the once-hallowed brand. All-wheel drive, 320KW, 600Nm, 0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds, and a 12.0-second quarter mile are very serious numbers indeed - that's 0.4 seconds faster to 100km/h than the fastest HSV ever made!
    Building on the solid platform of the MG4 EV - which was the best-selling small car under $40k in October - the XPower dusts off a nameplate from the dusk of MG's British era. Back then, XPower symbolised the most extreme variants or racing versions of the range, so it's a fitting nod to the past to see it applied to the hottest version of the MG4.

    Awesome. I'm more in the price bracket for the base 51kWh, but I'd love to get my hands on the X-Power.

    Btw theres a launch control on that x power you need to brake boost it until the x power boost thing gets up to 66 % and then you let go the brake and enjoy the performance

    Would be interesting to see this test done when car is fully charged to see if there is a difference. Also did you use launch control?

  • @fenegroni
    @fenegroni 6 месяцев назад +3

    The brake-hold method unfortunately isn't right: to use launch control, you are meant to press the brake hard, accelerate up to 60% power, then release the brake. You seem to have accelerated to less than 20% power and you had the ESC off which will not engage launch control.

      Thanks. I tried as hard as I could to provoke some sort of 'launch control' activation but nothing happened. Our times met the official claim of 3.82 - maybe it's even quicker?
      Keep in mind we do Vbox testing off-camera - a lot more runs. The video is just a video demonstration.

      @@drivingenthusiastaustraliapush hard on brake
      Foot down on throttle at 25% it will lurch forward
      Then you go flat to floor car will go upto 66% and then you let go of the brake
      Looks like it doesn’t change a huge amount in terms of 0-100 I think fastest I’ve seen is 3.6

    At least MG has offered a hot hatch. It may not be a track demon, but at least it is reasonably priced. I wonder what the Germans will offer in terms of hot hatches, I know they will come with hefty price tags.

      3 nights to charge it.

    • @addsfour3499
      @addsfour3499 6 месяцев назад +1

      EVERY electric car takes more than a night to charge. Also remember it takes the same time to charge from 0 to 80% as it takes to charge from 80 to 100%, so you can charge plenty overnight, or you can buy a wall charger which reduces the time drastically. Remember, nobody fills a car up from 0 to 100. Also, remember its a hell of a lot cheaper to fill than an ICE car
