Thanks Jay, with your two videos I changed my mind from Logi to Evoluent. Used your link so hope that helps. I saw your comparison to the Logi and that was really useful info. Personally I'd rather have the plastic than rubber. Rubber can get pretty nasty after a while, and the plastic remains easy to wipe clean. I like that you're independent and voice your personal opinion, who could ask for more. Funny that you casually mention the magnetic battery cover. I don't believe I noticed that even on the Evoluent site, yet I think it's a really slick little feature. Cheers...
Thanks B S, on that magnetic cover, I didn't realize it was detachable and when I opened it the first time and it went flying across the room. Took me 15 minutes to find it! :)
Great video. I went with a small. The tip of my middle finger is almost 7". I've always found that traditional mice are way to big for my hands. Can't wait to get mine this weekend!
Just got the Vertical D in medium/wired from my workplace. Only been a day but I’m liking it so far, glad I researched and found the D was the latest iteration. Was almost persuaded by the Logitech one but Evoluent’s years of experience in this field swayed me. Decided to get the wired option as I have a hub monitor at home, to which everything is connected and did not want to have to deal with connectivity and battery issues.
I use the razer viper 8khz for gaming long hrs so finding your channel really helped me out. I have trigger finger where my middle finger would get stiff and sore a lot, I'm most likely going to buy the wireless version of the Evoluent mouse.
Great video Jay. I was confused by all their models and in fact when I emailed them they just said I should order what ever looked good since they all work the same. Seemed like a weird response.
Hey Jay, thanks for the video. I actually tried and bought the Evoluent D medium size, only to realize it's actually not ergonomic at all. Your fingers are extended as opposed to curved, and it takes quite a tremendous force to click the left button, which is the furthest thing from ergonomic. Did you experience the same issues? i had to return it the next day and am very disappointed with the product. Tried also the mx vertical but it's too big for my hand (roughly 18cm), right now i'm using the jelly comb which requires small amount of force to click the buttons, whcih all ergo mice should strive for.
Hi Roy, Sorry that the Evol didn't work for you. I agree it isn't perfect, but it works the best for me out of all I have tried. I didn't notice any extra force needed ( I wonder if yours was defective?) and my fingers do seem to curve around the mouse. It might be better if it was more curved I am not sure. I guess this is a case of "one size does NOT fit all." Let me know if you find one that you love. thanks. J
I have used amzn.to/42Oenwk the Hermit Shell Medium case. The large Evoluent mouse fits tightly but you can close the zipper. Not perfect but I haven't found anything better.
Hi Jay, How do you compare the Medium and Large comfort wise? I had to retire my beloved C as it got the double clicking issue and bought D Large, my hand is 195-200mm. Compared to the C I find the D Large uncomfortable and a bit bigger. Besides the length difference I have noticed that it pushes my thumb up and is wider at the base of the grip, perhaps those contribute to the discomfort too. Since the C does not have sizes I guess it should be closest to the medium, I remember they were recommending it for hands above 178mm. That is why I am asking if you have experienced any comfort differences between the two?
I use the large one as my daily driver, and the medium as a travel mouse. The only difference I can feel is my fingers extend past the buttons on the medium slightly. This doesn't seem to affect my comfort using the medium. I could happily use either mouse size.
Thanks Jay this was helpful. One question abt the medium and small sizes. Is there a difference in the width of the mouse in the area where the thumb and index finger webbing rests on the mouse? I used Logitech Lift vertical and found that area is quite wide for my hands. So the grip is uncomfortable. My hands measure 178mm exact so confused which size to go for. Any suggestion os appreciated
I don't have the small one right in front of me, but I don't recall there being any difference in the width of the thumb to index finger. Mostly the finger position is shorter on the small one. I think you should try the small version. It's always helpful if you order it from a supplier that will let you return it if it doesn't work for you.
Hey great review. I was wondering how does the Evoluent VerticalMouse D compare with the C? Also, is it possible to program the thumb side button as the main button (what would normally be the left button)?
The model D has the newer tech (improved laser sensor) magnetic battery cover, and indents on the buttons, and the three size availability. Yes, using the Evoluent mouse software, you can assign any function to any buttons (like the thumb buttons to left and right click)
I am not a Mac user, so I can't speak from personal experience, but the Evoluent 4 is the bluetooth model. I suspect it is not up to the newer features of the MM2. I think the Evoluent mice are overdue for a feature update.
If you need left handed, I am recommending the Logitech Lift Ergonomic Mouse Left Handed version - It is a bit different than the Evol but still great. amzn.to/40CsrY2
Hello Jay, Thank you very much for testing this evoluent model. In 2015, I bought the model 4, which was perfect, it served me perfectly over all these years. I decided to go for a more recent model, the Evoluent D, is the one you test in your video. The comfort and grip remain excellent, but I am quite disappointed with the scroll wheel. The scroll wheel is noticeably noisier than the one on the model 4. I think I probably received a model with a manufacturing defect. Can you give me your opinion on the sound made by the scroll wheel on your model? For those who will read my message, I had in hand the medium model (VMDMW), my hand size is 18 cm, it was a perfect size for me.
I do notice a soft clicking sound from the mouse wheel on the Evoluent. If I slowly roll the wheel slowly it is very quiet. A rapid spin produces a more noticeable "ratchet" clicking. I have several Evoluent mice and they both sound identical. I think this is mostly normal for most mouse wheels that have the clicking stops. I compared this to the Logitech Lift mouse, and it makes the same sounds, but a bit quieter. I am listening in a very quiet room, but if there was any other sounds like conversation or music/TV audio, I couldn't hear the clicking at all. I am over the retirement age and my hearing is not what it was, so you may be able to hear sounds that I can't. That being said, I haven't noticed the sound from the Evoluent to be objectionable. Perhaps yours is defective?
@JayPierstorff Thank you so much for the detailed explanation, it gave me a good idea of what is normal and what is not, I do think there is a defect on my model D. I just made a video where you can hear the difference in sound between my old Model 4 and my new Model D (I posted it on my channel). Can you give me your opinion on this? On my Model 4, I agree that the clicking sound is soft. It's a coincidence, thanks for your valuable comparison with the Logitech Lift. I actually bought it recently for my partner, I think this model is perfect for small hands. The scroll wheel is extremely quiet (even inaudible for my hearing) and a pleasure to use. Compared to my Model 4 and Lift, the sound on my D is unfortunately too objectionable for me to keep it. I'll return it via Amazon.
It appears Evoluent does not make a small lefthanded vertical mouse. Their website doesn't even list ANY lefthanded versions of the D model - yet it does appear on Amazon! However it's only the regular size. Very frustrating!
Evoluent D is the newer design. More chromed areas, More advanced electronics, more accurate Laser sensor, extra anti-grip section, software features "adjust eye comfort" and "Accelerate scrolling"
A hundred and who for JUST a mouse? No. My hands are HUGE... I'd rather keep not using PC's much. Seriously. That's a cost to them of about 2 bucks. Tops. 5 if they used top end stuff and expensive shipping methods. No way. I'll try your budget video.

Sounds like you got one that’s too large. I just ordered the medium size and looking forward to less hand pain.
Clicking force on my evoluent is pretty light. You might have got a defective one.
Thanks Jay, very helpful

Hi Karen, the D and 4 sizes are similar, but the "D" is the newer model with tech improvements.

@@katetornado Yes, the large size.
Aren't they slippery in the hand by being so shiny?
Weirdly, they are contoured enough so that is not a problem.😀
My hand is 17.5, i am struggling on small or medium size
According to the Evoluent website, less than 178mm should choose small. evoluent.com/products/vmds/
My hand is 173mm. Should I buy medium or small?
according to the Evoluent website, less than 178mm should choose small. evoluent.com/products/vmds/
the wrong size may be the reason why i feel pain when i use this mouse in my wrist and thumb. choose wisely.
I'm 170cm but I'm only have 17cm in palm length guess indonesian do have tiny hands lol
I just bought EVL_D. To be honest it's sensor is really bad. I can't do operations that require high precision. Over 100 bucks really wasted.
