Logitech's trackball is the best work mouse IMO. It stopped my hand pain shortly I started to use it. I now have been using it for over a year working OT and still no pain. The key is to give it 3 months so that thumb muscle develops and tiredness will fade.

There isn't a tonne of left-handed support out there when it comes to mice/mouses. I spend on average 8-10hours per day on the PC. I'm currently using a logitech M705 mouse as it's size was the best of a bad bunch for me. I spent some time in the store trying out different ones, returning them and ended up settling on the M705 for now. I came across your video here while researching ergonomic mouse. It seems the engineers are so far up their own ass that they can't seem to dedicate themselves to perfecting a design that has been proven to work, instead mutating it every 2 years so that it loses features that were good and add a bunch of useless un-intuitive crap. Take the G700s, it has the potential to be one of the best mice, the shape, ergonomics and features were almost flawless, though it is plagued by software issues and poor build quality of the buttons. Now instead of fixing the downfalls and perfecting the mouse they just drop it all together. The Mx Master is also another prime example of this. It got subtle improvements ergonomically, but then they totally screwed up the button placements to the point it's unusable. The same can be said about keyboards. Today's keyboards are imo horrendously bad. The majority don't come with wrist-rests and the one's that do are not even close to hitting the mark. Styluses are pretty useful for navigating as well as graphics. Mine has supplanted my mouse for everything but gaming. The only downside is their desktop footprint. Thanks for the answer. You're probably right, I'm probably leaning on it, at least when I'm using my tablet pen. I'm thinking of going to some kind of expert, just haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm using a regular mouse, the one came with the computer. My middle finger gets very sore after a work day, especially the muscle connecting my finger to my palm. What mouse do you recommend?
Dr. Steve, Thanks for one of the most appreciated helpful videos. I'm just curious why there's a problem with the logitech m570, the mouse that includes a trackball. Is it bad for a trackball position only, or is it bad for being a normal mouse too. Because I think it's shape and it, as a normal laser mouse, are good, and might be a better design as a laser mouse, than the other normal ones compared in this video.
Hab It is a bit of personal choice but typically the trackball will isolate the smaller muscles of the hand while a mouse encourages movement of teh arm and shoulder. If you like the track ball the larger the ball the better. Try and and use an open had when moving the ball. This way you aren't compressiong the wrist.
You're quite right, it does really put some tension on one's hand, especially for using it for first time, and it takes long time to get used to it and that adds to the problem. And thanks, the open hand hint is VERY effective, it reduces the amount of tension alot, even in using normal mice. Thanks for you reply.

So, what's your favorite, Steve? I really must stop using my laptop keyboard and tracking pad. I honestly don't know how I got this far. I'm considering a rollermouse or a trackball, or one of those sideways deals. What's your #1 choice?
If you like using the track pad, you could try an external one like the wacom bamboo. Choose the one that is most comfortable for you adn puts the least amount of pressure on the small bone on the comer of your wrist (pisiform)
my right hand is stiff and not as fluent as my left,I use it everyday because i work on the computer, also i play guitar so its constantly in use, what would the best choice mouse be for me plz
I'm finding I need to get an ergonomic mouse. My right hand has some nerve damage from a dermatitis infection years ago and my hand gets numb. So I am planning on getting a vertical mouse of some kind. Hopefully I can find one that will fit me.
Hello? I am a design engineer and using mouse for me is a lot of time. Any suggestion what will be the suited mouse for a designers who use long time like me. Thanks.
I make insane hours behind my pc so my wrist started to hurt a lot, even though I was using a very comfortable Logitech Perfomance MX. I tried the nice looking Kensington Expert Trackball, but it requires me to lift my hand and move it quite a lot causing the top center part of my hand/wrist to hurt. I also felt less productive and awkward moving around and working the scroll wheel. It was also quite bulky on my desk. Because I still felt pain in my hand I put it aside. Reluctantly I tried the cheap looking & feeling Logitech M570. To my big surprise using the little trackball with my thumb actually felt very intuitive. Within 5 minutes I was already quite productive working painlessly. I had to get used to completely resting my hand on the mouse because no hand movement is required while it feels like my regular mouse in my hand. This is what I think Steve was doing wrong: try resting your arm on the table and your full hand on the mouse. It will should feel quite comfortable. I actually like that the buttons and scroll wheel feel about the same as I'm used to but without the pain. I also find the back-forward buttons useful. I'm also very surprised with the battery life of the m570, it seems to last forever while my MX runs empty in a day. Another advantage is that it's wireless and pairable along with my Performance MX on the same receiver (so I have a spare receiver stored in one mouse now) and I can switch mice quickly. So what don't I like about the M570? Well it looks and feels cheap (a bit plastic, light and I don't like the colors) so at 65 EUR I think it's way overpriced. I'd say it's worth 35 EUR but I don't have much choice. It's also a little small & lower compared to my much better looking performance mx and the scrollwheel feels way cheaper. However this is not a real problem and most mice feel and look cheap compared to the MX. I spent days looking for a solution so I hope someone else will find this helpful. Try the M570, I think you'll be suprised. I do appreciate your video but I must disagree about the M570. I understand it's personal but I think it serves it's purpose quite well.
Steve Meagher I tried the Evoluent Vertical Mouse 4 but I sent in back within a few days. I still had to use my wrist, because my arm is not precise enough compared to tiny wrist movements (for my use), resulting in pain. That mouse position is quite awkward to me, it feels better in my upperarm but I had too little control and precision in any sensitivity. I would like to see someone working that mouse in a DAW because I really can't. My wacom tablet was way more precise with a pen. Maybe it's ok for more basic stuff. I am very happy to say that I've been using the M570 for months now without any trouble and I have no pain in my wrist anymore. It's just a little less precise that a normal mouse but has some other advantages like never having to lift the mouse up. I've actually even resumed my gym routine without any trouble. I'm just saying this mouse is a lot better for some people than one might think!
Hello Dr Steeve, What mouse would you recommend for drawing in autocad? I have wrist and index finger pain. I have already tried the anker vertical mouse, but the buttons are a little bit hard to click and the mouse weight too much for me. I have a medium size hand.
Dr. Steve, I'm not sure I understand the problems with the Logitech M570. I have been using one for a long time. There are people who prefer it to the finger operated ones you show in your videos. I would have loved to give those finger operated ones a try, but the stores here in Dubai didn't have it. They only have stuff that appeals to gamers. However since Logitech is a great brand, they do sell the M570.. So that is what I got and I like it. It works well for me. Have not experienced any pain using it. My only pain comes in the form of a broken ego... can type a damn word without making too many mistakes. Even if I look at the keys. :)
Larger mice can supinate the hand and increase compression of the pisiform , small bone on the edge of the hand. This can cause compression of the ulnar nerve. But if it works for you it's probably OK.

I tried some track ball mice, but found them difficult to control the track ball when trying to highlight a section of text. IMO, the ergonomic "upright" ones are the way to go.
Would be helpful if, rather than just telling the obvious points about the mice, you went more into the physical therapy related benefits of one design over another.
More information about the natural position of your hand in relation to the mouse and how your hand naturally fits on a vertical mouse in contrast to a traditional mouse where you have to force your hand and rotate in horizontal. Things like that.

Thumbs way down because of the lousy audio. Using the camera's mic in a hard walled space is a really bad idea. Don't ever do it again, please. Use a lapel mic next time and give your audience decent audio. Video with bad audio is crap.
Are you serious? Who moves his mouse with his shoulder? All the movement and strain comes from the wrist...And then you go and say that a trackball like M570 is worse than that? This type of trackball has saved a lot of wrists out there. And the thumb is built to move like this unlike the wrist. With all those gamers out there using their thumbs for many hours daily have you ever heard of a thumb syndrome or sth?? Of course not...The problems come from the wrist and not the thumb...
I agree with you Alex, thanks for the comment. Trackball is best work mouse IMO. I have one at home and one at work. I even seriously considered buying the new version ($100) but will wait for price to go down.
The key is to use it few hours a day for 3m months, so that muscle can develop because those muscle group are not normally used. But nowadays many want instant result and turn down this mouse. They (including this therapist) is missing out on a great value ergonomic mouse.

I don't really know why except that it could be due to excessive computer use. What mouse would you recommend? (P.s. It needs to still be usable for complex things like gaming and such. And also I already have a roller mouse for my left hand that I switch to from time to time.)
Cheers! : )

Adam,
Thank you for watching my ergonomics video and leaving a

Thanks for the answer. You're probably right, I'm probably leaning on it, at least when I'm using my tablet pen. I'm thinking of going to some kind of expert, just haven't gotten around to it yet. Might try acupuncture, worked for my tennis elbow, might work with my hand as well.
Personally I would like it if you covered more hand and arms ergonomics, and equipment people can buy that is reasonable to use on a daily basis, that is also of course ergonomic.
Sorry for the late response, and thanks again. Keep up the great work.

Steve, where did you get the information about thumb strain on the Logitech mouse? I bought one the first day they came out 13 years ago and have never looked back. Its just so comfortable and my hand is just completely relaxed after hours each day. I do look forward to seeing your take on the 3m upright mouse.

I'm using a regular mouse, the one came with the computer. My middle finger gets very sore after a work day, especially the muscle connecting my finger to my palm. What mouse do you recommend?
Dr. Steve,
Thanks for one of the most appreciated helpful videos.

I am using a Logitech M570, went through 2 of them over the years, (use to Love them) but now i am in bad shape.
I've played guitar at an advanced level for 20+ years and for the last 3 weeks my right index and thumb (picking fingers) are getting numb every single time I play guitar for even 5 min. Also for the last week or so extended computer use is getting difficult.
HELP! I need to go hands free asap. I need the best set up i can find to save my hands. Was thinking both hands free (head tracking w/voice) and an ergonomics hands on at the same time.
Please advise of products to consider. TYTY

Are the VM4R mouses wireless? Is that small thing in the top of them an anthena, or what is it?

So, what's your favorite, Steve? I really must stop using my laptop keyboard and tracking pad. I honestly don't know how I got this far. I'm considering a rollermouse or a trackball, or one of those sideways deals. What's your #1 choice?
If you like using the track pad, you could try an external one like the wacom bamboo. Choose the one that is most comfortable for you adn puts the least amount of pressure on the small bone on the comer of your wrist (pisiform)
my right hand is stiff and not as fluent as my left,I use it everyday because i work on the computer, also i play guitar so its constantly in use, what would the best choice mouse be for me plz
what was the last one? Rollerbar mouse? Trying to google it.
I'm finding I need to get an ergonomic mouse. My right hand has some nerve damage from a dermatitis infection years ago and my hand gets numb. So I am planning on getting a vertical mouse of some kind. Hopefully I can find one that will fit me.
What do you think about laptop trackpads, good idea? Or is better to get an ergonomic mouse?
They are pretty small . Hook up an external keyboard and mouse then raise the screen to eye level.
Hello? I am a design engineer and using mouse for me is a lot of time. Any suggestion what will be the suited mouse for a designers who use long time like me. Thanks.
what the name of the keyboard that shown at 6:01
Thank you so much Steve
So which type is better? Vertical?
This video is really helpful
Thanks...and about the 3M vertical mouse...
You might try a vertical mouse. Sometime they can help.
Just ordered the Evoluent VerticalMouse 4 to try it. I'll let you know how it goes.
I do have carpal tunnel syndrome and I just recently got a vertical Anker mouse. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.
Thnak you for the comment.I am glad it works for you. For a lot of people isolating the thumb can cause problems.
I'm just saying this mouse is a lot better for some people than one might think!
amazing information for our bodies, ty
How do we contact u from another country
im looking for an ergonomic trackball mouse that can connect to my phone via bluetooth.
Yikes! I haven't heard of one of those. Check on line of call the Human Solution they might know if something exists.
Thanks, very good.
How about the Microsoft® Sculpt Ergonomic Wireless Mouse that looks like a semi-sphere ? Too high?
Oh boy a gaming mouse that came with a laptop is too small for me! I’m going to buy a Logitech MX Vertical now!
Hello Dr Steeve,
What mouse would you recommend for drawing in autocad? I have wrist and index finger pain. I have already tried the anker vertical mouse, but the buttons are a little bit hard to click and the mouse weight too much for me. I have a medium size hand.
You might try this. ruclips.net/video/sWx8LVI3d-A/видео.html
Oh! Thank you very much...I will definitely try this!
M570 saved my wrist. Moving mouse using your shoulder is the worst way to use a mouse. It causes stiffness and pain to Rhomboid muscles
Yeah...it's kinda sad that he doesn't necessarily know what he's talking about in this video.
Dr. Steve,
I'm not sure I understand the problems with the Logitech M570.

What is your opinion on keyboard layouts. Do you think that QWERTY is a cause for RSI and Carpal Tunnel syndrome?
I think over use is more of a problem than the layout of the keyboard. However there is a DOVARK ? Keyboard with a different key layout.
+Steve “The Ergonomics Guy” Meagher I am well aware of Dvorak & alternative layouts. I for one used Colemak; lesser known, but I think really good.
julxrp.wordpress.com/2012/11/21/colemak-vs-dvorak/
i am using a logitech g502. but i am gaming alot and need the sensor to be able to take the speeds that i'm moving my mouse at
I think the Corsair mice might help; They have a good shape and I think they are pretty fast.
Will this get me to global?
Thanks!
5:57 Can you tell me what is the actual name of this mouse on 5:57 to make me found it out on a market and try it out ?
+Gigagamer74 sounds like he said the volermount mouse...?
cnith2 I found it. He said Rollermouse. Best one from this family of point device is RollerMouse Red.
Gigagamer74
Ah, thank you! Does it work well? I was thinking about that one too! I was looking at evulent but that rollerone looks like it might work better.
+cnith2 I will tell you how does it works as fast as it come to me with help of our post. It's on the way. It will come to me in two week.

Any mouse but Trackball and Vertical can be used for gaming. find what's the most comfortable mouse to you though.

Hello dr. Steve, thanks for the nice and informative video.
What would you raccomend between evoluent and a trackball like the big kensington one ?
I used the evoluent for an entire year and i find it 100x better than a normal mouse, but i still have elbow problem because i cant find a good sitting position. I'm thinking about alternating vertical and big trackball, would it be wise in your opinion?
Ty again for the great video :)

i would love a video explaining the different ergonomical positions ( standing up, chair with knee rest, chair without knee rest, chair without back rest etc. etc. )!
Thanks! Check out my video on the Kneely chair. I usually like a chair that has adjustable parts so you can move them throughout the day. Not a big fan of the balls or kneeling chairs.
Why don't you use a mic?
Hi Steve, what's your opinion of Magic Trackpad?

What about the ring mouse 2 ?????????????
While it looks cool I don't think it would be a good option as it is just too small for extended use. May be good for a short presentation.
I tried some track ball mice, but found them difficult to control the track ball when trying to highlight a section of text. IMO, the ergonomic "upright" ones are the way to go.

WACOM INTUOS Pen Tablet! This helps a lot as well!
Thanks for the comment. The touch pads are a good alternative.
Would be helpful if, rather than just telling the obvious points about the mice, you went more into the physical therapy related benefits of one design over another.

I need one the size of a turtle my wrist is f**** killing me, theyre all too small

What are your suggestions for left handed oppressed minorities
I expected more from a "Physical Therapist"
Really ? What were you expecting?
More information about the natural position of your hand in relation to the mouse and how your hand naturally fits on a vertical mouse in contrast to a traditional mouse where you have to force your hand and rotate in horizontal. Things like that.

Always remember we must repent of our sins (sin is transgression The Law Of Yahuah The Father in Heaven. The Law are The Books: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, & Deuteronomy). We must repent of our sins and Have Belief On Yahusha The Messiah. HE Died and Rose three days later so that we can be forgiven of our sins!
Come to HIM Today. Much love!
Your thumb can still cause wrist problems as the tendons still go through the wrist.
trackball mice are considered bad for the fingers! You'll develop RSI.
