- My back injuries have been well documented and many people have said that I should retire from powerlifting, that it just isn't in the cards anymore. I don't believe that and never have. Brian Carroll reached out to me on instagram after my latest injury and asked about helping. I had the opportunity to go meet up with Brian and his mentor Dr. Stu McGill, a legend when it comes to low back pain research. Dr. McGill put me through an extremely thorough 2 hour examination. In this video series you will learn:
-What caused my pain?
-Am I doomed to never compete again?
-Can I live a pain free life?
-What does Dr. McGill recommend for my recovery?
-Can I ever get back on the platform?
This video will be useful for ANYONE who has ever had a setback from injury. Please make sure you check out Brian and Stu's new book 'The Gift of Injury' and pick up 'The Back Mechanic' as well. These two books will allow you to be able to identify what is causing your back pain and how to appropriately treat it, as well as help you with the mentality and toughness it takes to come back from injury.

Please keep us updated with this examination, this is fantastic. Wish you a speedy recovery Layne 👌
Dr McGill is incredible.
Truly awe-inspiring to watch a grandmaster of his craft work. Awesome content and best wishes on a speedy recovery, Layne! I cannot wait for part 2.
This is truly exciting. Wow, thanks for sharing Layne! You really do help others who may experience back pain.
Thanks so much for the share Layne. Watching this series is really helping me stay focused on my own recovery. I will live to lift again
You can just tell Dr Stu is a genius, he even looks the part
Thanks for sharing this, Layne! It was very insightful.
Yes mate! im so glad you finally did this.
So many GOAT's in one room.
awesome video. Thanks lane
Thanks for posting this. Very helpful.
Props for taking a step back man, not always the easiest thing todo.
omg that was so interesting to watch!! please upload all the parts of the assessment and the conclusion he told you, please :)
Your injury sounds exactly like mine from a few years back. Kept having flare ups and eventually bought Back Mechanic followed by listening to a lot of Podcasts that Stu has been on. Not to sound dramatic but Back Mechanic changed my life. Now I'm feeling stronger than ever in the gym. Hoping to buy his book Gift of Injury soon
the big 3 ?
Wath exercises did you do?
whoever filmed and edited this did excellent job. this and the rest of the parts are great
Injuries suck, tough mentally as much or more than the physical pain. You'll be Stronger than ever in time, I believe it.
Wow that was sooo good!!
Take care man!
This was actually fascinating to watch Dr. McGill do his work
I feel like Dr. Stu needs a big pipe to go with his incredible mustache lol
This doctor is a legend man hell lot of knowledge
Man it sucks lol. I've been there on the same table with Dr McGill. Separated pelvis w/ all kinds of spine snap action. Good luck man. I'm mostly, 9 out of 10 days, pain free but have to be careful.
Thanks for the video Layne. Will you be uploading the whole thing? I'm a chiropractic student in Canada and we study a lot of Dr. Mcgill's research. I find the clinical tests super interesting.
I had a herniated disc and it takes at least a year to heal and if you re- injure it, it can take another year. Stretching every day is key while recovering and laying on the ground in different positions to manipulate your back. Of course don't do any moves that hurt more. And medicine is useful to relax you so your back goes back in place stays in place and heels and seeing a really good doctor or doctors are key also. Thanks so much for the video I'm going through a setback right now because I had non-related surgery and was laying around too much. Now my back's out and I can't get it back into place (was in bad car wreck a few yrs back) and I can't see a chiropractor until my surgical sites are healed.
That’s really inspiring Layne! But always remember that you don’t need to prove nothing to nobody! You do it because you love it and that’s only what really matters. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I also get one question for you. Could you tell how you manage that small pec injure that you got just before nationals last year? I’m going through the same and I would like some advice about how you kept training and what you did to recovery from that.
Thanks 🙏🏻 👊🏻
Layne, I have a herniated disk too. And for me the problem is not the pain, but stretching my leg. I can’t stretch my leg correctly. Is it a worst scenario than yours, or maybe a different issue?
16:25 "Feels Fabulous!" LMAO
Can we take pain medications alongside working with the book back mechanic for better recovery results?
*THEY SAID YOU WERE DONE! THEY SAID YOU WERE FINISHED!*
Get after it Layne
Hello. How can I reduce the herniated that pressing the nerve
How does someone set an apt up with Stuart?? I NEED HIM
watching stuart is just a relief , feels like talking to God himself 💯❤️
Wow, lucky to see McGill...I’m ramping up to drive and suffer for the trip to see one of his disciples
Can anybody work with Dr.McGill? Thanks for sharing Layne
Is McGill based out of Jacksonville? I thought he was based in Canada. If he has an office here id pay him to check my back out.... it would be well worth the 3 hour drive up to jax
By "feeling pain free" do you mean pain free when you follow spinal hygiene during the day or that you feel zero pain even when extending or flexing the spine?
I watched the Joe Rogan podcast with Mel Gibson (and some Doctor, can't recall his name), he spent the whole podcast talking about stem cell treatment that you can only get in South America, and it apparently it's extremely effective treatment for almost anything it seems. I mean if worst comes to worst, check out that podcast, the doctor on it kind of explains all the technical jargon etc but it's a watch.
i do not trust joe rogan or anyone he has on his show when it comes to science
Joe rogan has the IQ of your average walnut; my sister who's going to Law school has more scientific knowledge than that fucking clown
You don't trust Andy Galpin, Lawrence Krauss, Brian Cox etc? Bit of a broad statement.
The guy is called Dr Neil Riordan, published over 70 scientific articles, probably a good salesman on the topic of stem-cells but oh well. Only trying to help bud..
Oh please shut the fuck up Nick with the old "my dad could could beat up your dad" shit. Joe is fairly intelligent, never claims to be the most intelligent person in the world. Has a breadth of knowledge on different topics, and an insane amount of knowledge when it comes to MMA/Boxing. For the most part he has on credible scientists. But I know for one thing mate, he's smarter than you
Lol absolutely man; way smarter then me. 😂
Hit the links and buy! buy! buy!
This videography though...
I hope I can box again soon.
You will brother. STRONG. STRONG. STRONG. I'm suffering too. I will be back too. Stronger than ever.
Amar Reddy thanks bro,all the best to you as well
@@amarreddy6877 how are you now?

I wonder what this guy thinks of chiropractors? Hmmm....
maybe its time to let it go and just maintain a decent healthy fit body .....you may regret pushing it too at in later life you are young yet.....
or maybe I want to live my life how the fuck I want to live it =)
biolayne easy fella just an opinion don't go getting all bent out of shape. Your what 37/8 years old, you've probably peaked previously competitively especially strength wise, you've had how many surgeries? And your back has been fucked how many times...you strike me as a highly intelligent person with a good and in the realm of online fitness an actual 'useful' site....yet and again my opinion your ego is writing checks your body can't keep.
Any fool can macho it out, with the tough Fuck you talk....
When you end up spending your over half your life in pain you will have plenty of time too reflect on whether it was worth pushing on.
You do what the Fuck you like, as you say it's your life....but for everything we do there are consequences
biolayne fast forward 20 years...Layne is getting his 9th back surgery and using a walker just like Ronnie Coleman. Grabbing my popcorn to watch this unfold.
Products 4Less the ' GIFT' of INJURY what next the JOY of AIDS!
Peteyz Zed Layne clearly stated his opinion with you that he is going to do what he wants. Why continue to try to make your case on why he should stop powerlifting? I pondered on this topic for a good minute and the only thing I could come up with was it had less to do with helping Layne and more of you just wanting to try to prove you are right. How bout we just keep liking Layne’s material and support him? It’s all fine and dandy to share your opinion, but if Layne personally responds to you and you continue to drive your opinion anyways, it just makes you look like a assh*le.
You’re always injured.
No. I’m quite often not injured. Always implies forever. A more correct statement is that you are always stupid 😊
Injuries are common in this sport, man. And you should check out all of his videos and competition results. Not injured there.
90% of injuries is bad form!
Based on your extensive peer reviewed research? 🙄
more like common sense. Or lifting with a weight that one cant handle. What else could it be??? Getting hurt with good form and with a weight you can handle seen unlikely.
Roberto Castro you don’t know what you can’t handle until you can’t. It could be 5 more lbs. It could be one more rep. Get out of here with that nonsense.
See, I think the training IS the problem. Too much volume. I'm no training expert, but it seems that the best lifters in the world make world record lifts and train with much less volume. Much smarter. Anyone agree?
Sorry, but I don't believe that anyone who promotes or uses squats should be listened to as an adviser for health. Some of the most fit trainers advise against squats due tot he injuries that can shut an athlete down permanently. I believe that squats are just old-school exercises that are leftover, and kept, from high-school memories where much of the training was ill-advised.
This has to be a joke.
you sir are stupid, squat is goat
😂 😂 😂
There's a difference between squatting for health/fitness and squatting to set world records. You can take the safest exercises and still get injured if you push your body too hard.
With correct form and not overdoing it you should be ok with squats. I have done squats for 20+ and have never had any issues with knees or back. And yes I did some powerlifting!! Only time I ever hurt my back was doing leg press..ha!
