I used to listen to this all the time and memorized every lyric. I learned about Chris Cornell after he passed when I was 15. Since then life has moved on, things have changed position but I feel left behind. I recently had my life turn upside down, took out all my fear on myself and had to go into a hospital and then a second hospital. Chris Cornell in many ways is my hero, my favorite voice, lead singer of some of my favorite bands, the only musician I like that transcended his bands and I refer to as my “favorite band”. I lost my interest in listening to his music because I knew it all by hand, but it’s times like these that I try to recall why he has been there for me more than any other human, even though I never knew him and he never wrote the songs for me I still am one of the many that cling to this man’s lyrics like the parents or friends I never had. Even if he himself was a flawed man he wrote songs like this that are flawless. These lyrics are one of the few things I can allow myself to be emotional about. Be it when I tried to take my own life the first time, or the sixth time. I may be alone for now, but I know I’m not alone in struggling with this.
