Been enjoying the series! I haven't done a lot with 45 ACP, but there's been a ton of good information in these videos that reloaders need to know. Last time I checked, there weren't any videos featuring Cramer molds on RUclips. Yours may be the first. I have been collecting the ones I find that aren't listed for an exorbitant price.

Thanks, Harmungus! I’ll give strong consideration to including the Cramer 452-230. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸

Thanks for the study Viejo. I wonder if the softness between cast and jacketed in the area of sealing the bore along with perhaps a tighter grip on the rifling. Maybe I tend to overthink reloading.

Hi, Colt. Thanks. I’m going to have to address this as best I can in the next video. There have been several comments. There are certainly differences in lubricity between our lubed/powder coated bullets and jacketed. I believe that barrel obturation/engraving and pressure differences are also at play. The really big question is exactly what is the complete cast of characters that seem to result in the differences in pressure? I’m uncertain myself. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸

I noticed this velocity difference in Plated vs Soft Lead when loading .223 rifle ammo as well. I was very specifically loading for a known velocity (subsonic) and with the same powder charge the soft lead (Powder Coated) was noticeably faster. By a considerable amount. I was shooting 5 shot groups over the chrono and averaging. I'm guessing that harder lead might slow them down a bit?

Hiya, Mike. Aside from barrel length, there are a couple of other factors that can contribute to the velocity differences. I think that the two biggest players are lubricity of the bullet, and pressure. I think that our traditionally lubed or powder coated cast bullets generate less friction in the barrel. The question of pressure represents a more complex set of contributing factors. All other things being equal, case volume, obturation, and crimp differences can result in variation of pressure behind the bullet. I’m not sure at all about how all those interact together, but clearly they must be involved. So harder lead may well obturate differently from softer, and thus experience different friction in the barrel. They’ll also be lighter weight than softer bullets. Again..I dunno for sure. Something that might require some research.🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸🇨🇦

@@viejo2a Part of what makes handloading such a fun hobby, so many variables that it's a never ending chase to find what works and then replicate it when needed. Love this hobby!😀
