  • Following the passage of the Online News Act, Google and Meta announced it would block all Canadian news content across its platforms. The Online News Act forces these tech giants to pay media outlets for sharing their content, and in retaliation these companies have taken a hard line against paying journalists fairly for their work.
In July, Meta banned all news content across their platforms, impacting student journalism in this move.
Though you can't see The Journal's stories on Instagram or Facebook anymore, we're not going away. Readers can always keep up to date with the latest Queen's news by visiting our website as www.queensjournal.ca. We're also available in print on campus, with biweekly paper delivery this year. If you're still looking for us on social media, you can find us on X (you know, that app we used to call Twitter?) and TikTok, all at @queensjournal.
