Medical school was one of the best years of my life. It was easier and more fun than college because I studied things I was actually interested in for my future. Yes Step 1 was a pain to study for but it was an easier exam than the MCAT. Third year was great because you actually got to see and learn from patients. Medical school was definitely a breeze compared to residency!
When you’re in high school you’ll come across people that’ll say “Don’t worry so much about studying right now your grade only matters in your final year/once you’re in University”, don’t listen to them. Keep up the habit of working hard and grinding so that once you finally get out of high school those traits are engrained into you.

Actually, yes. To be honest, in undergrad, premeds can be annoying. A lot of them are high-strung, grade-obsessed, cutthroat individuals who are only out for themselves. Often, they have no real interest in the classes they’re taking. It’s just something they have to check a box next to so they can get into med school. I went to medical school a long time ago (1988-1992). USMLE wasn’t a thing yet. Back then it was the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) parts 1, 2, and 3. Similar exams and pressure though. Residency applications back then were via the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Probably similar to the current setup. It was like military boot camp…I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything but I wouldn’t want to repeat it either.

Awesome video homie! If you’re competitive enough on paper for specialties that aren’t super competitive like anesthesia or EM, are audition rotations all that important?

lol I didn’t go to medical school after I graduated high school in 2012 cause I was scared to deal with blood and all. My dad a retired physician was disappointed but later got over it. After my first degree I moved to the United went back to college and something changed, I’m preparing for med school now. Still worried though cause I feel like my brain is not that solid like when i just graduated high school 😂
It's never too late to pursue your dreams! 🌟 It sounds like you've overcome a lot to get to this point. Remember, experience and determination can make up for any perceived gaps. What's motivating you most as you prepare for med school now? 💪🎓
@2:40 "For the MCAT you can study for 2 months and get a 99th percentile score" -> What a widely inapplicable claim. Let's pretend the current 902,000 people who watched this took the MCAT. Most ppl who take the MCAT study for two months, yet a 99th percnetile implies that only 9020 people can relate with what you're saying. Anyways, if you're watching this, don't feel bad if that quote alientated you, it's quite a pompous claim. Maybe it's true for smarty pants Jabaal here, but for the average Joe (the audience), not at all. Edit: Timestamp
I'm a freshman in highschool that recently got accepted into a biomedical academy for my sophomore year. Let's hope in the next eight years, Med school will get easier
Wow. I didn’t know US med school system was so different, interesting video. Here in Perú, we do 03 years of university based lectures -> 03 years of clinical practice -> 01 year of internship = 07 years before leaving mes school and getting a MD. After that, we spend 01 year working on rural communities. An finally we apply for residency, which can take 03-05 years depending on the specialty.
Eddie I hope you see this post. Not sure why, but I’m moved to tell you to just do it if it’s something you want. Just go for it. You’ve got everything you need to get through another 4 years of school, you’ve got this! I didn’t start my dream career until I was 45, and it’s now been 7 years. I wish you great success is whichever career path you decide to pursue.
Øłivia :(same. I’ve been told Nursing isn’t worth it. Now I’m rethinking everything and doing a whole marathon of research lmao. Back to square one. -_-
@Karina Gonzalez|| Lmao I have always either wanted to be a lawyer or a doctor so I don't really have to go threw the re choosing phase and after this and a few more videos that I watched it's safe to say I most likely gonna be a lawyer instead
Øłivia Oh gee! One of my old recommendations haha. I ruled lawyer out though because of a long study road ahead. But I’m sure YOU CAN do it! I wish you the very best of luck!!😊
This reminds me of a very uneducated former coworker who was a generation above me, age wise. She said she did not go to women doctors, thought men were better but didn't know why. She also said it's women's lot in life to be home makers. An important job to be in the home as a wife, mother, care giver, cook, baker (all weekend for the coming week) and other 24/7 tasks that women are meant to do. I told her that is why she thinks women are not good doctors: they can't study hard, like the boys can, they have to 'get the dinner' every night. I hope that antiquated and just dumb idea is no where near these students.
I'm entering a Pre-med program this fall and this makes me so excited to meet my goals of becoming a surgeon--my ultimate goal from the time I was four years old!

I'm a freshman in aerospace why can't I stop watching this
I’m not pursuing the medical field but this is interesting to watch nevertheless 😆
You study 4 years????? I study 7 years on Argentina then another 5 years for specialization
This makes me really excited about medical school. I'm going into year 11 (junior year, i think) and I've wanted to be a doctor for the longest time. Watching videos like these remind me why I'm studying hard now.
could you make a video about getting into residency into the US for international students?
iceandfire stay out of the us you swine
FaZe WaNdI shut up
@@El3ctricFusion77 when people like u follow FazE and other gay gaming shit, it motivates me to never come to the US ..lmao
Awesome video homie! If you’re competitive enough on paper for specialties that aren’t super competitive like anesthesia or EM, are audition rotations all that important?

I wish I watched this video before my 4th year
I wanted to be a neurosurgeon but looking at this I won't be able to do this, not with my anxiety and overall idiocy. So chill gotta find a new dream job
nia pack dude same; I’m in premed right now hoping to become a paediatric neurologist but I’m literally on the verge of an anxiety attack just watching this video so I might need to find a different path
lol I didn’t go to medical school after I graduated high school in 2012 cause I was scared to deal with blood and all.
I’ll be back when I am a med student already, currently a grade 10 student. Long way to go but 1 thing for sure is I am gonna be a doctor!
Why? Talk with physicians/surgeons. Think about your motives.
I’m planning on becoming the worlds best doctor. Remember this comment because I‘m gonna make it. Im only 17 btw
FYI I gave up on it
@@jonathanandrade9160 😂 why tho?
@@harshrajjadhav940 I’m too lazy to go through 12 years of pure school

@2:40 "For the MCAT you can study for 2 months and get a 99th percentile score" -> What a widely inapplicable claim. Let's pretend the current 902,000 people who watched this took the MCAT. Most ppl who take the MCAT study for two months, yet a 99th percnetile implies that only 9020 people can relate with what you're saying. Anyways, if you're watching this, don't feel bad if that quote alientated you, it's quite a pompous claim. Maybe it's true for smarty pants Jabaal here, but for the average Joe (the audience), not at all.

Thanks for the video. That was quite informative. Do you have content specific to canadian med schools as i live in vancouver, canada? Thanks.
Soon!
Med School Insiders thanks. Is there a way i can notified when its ready?

My favorite classes were physiology and pharmacology. And my favorite rotation was Internal Medicine. 😍
Nice! What speciality are you going for/considering btw?
Answer the man’s question!!
@@primeirrational Sorry, Internal Medicine.
I'm a 32 year old 911 Paramedic but I'm considering med school.
I wish you great success is whichever career path you decide to pursue.
idk why i’m watching this, i’m in 8th grade and now i’m stressed out 😂
I'm fresh out of the womb and nearing kindergarten, this videos shows everything I need to know

What's wrong?
In my country, Romania, we do Med School for 6 years😩
Georgiana Love Don't you go right after high-school though?
Shibu Yami yeah
Here in Germany its 6 years, too.
Yeah but we have to do undergrad for 4 years first
In the US you have to do a Bachelor and/or Pre-MedSchool first and this takes around 4-6 years.
I'm only in middle school but I want to explore different careers,
might actually become a doc :)
I really want to become a nurse but I feel like I won't be able to handle the stress/ I'm won't be good enough and I'll never reach my goal
After watching this video, I am excited to take on this arduous and challenging task to achieve my goal to treat patients!
I had a doubt on my career .
Can I join ms after completing 3 years of getting MBBS certificate?
You have to give usmle
Usmle?
This reminds me of a very uneducated former coworker who was a generation above me, age wise. She said she did not go to women doctors, thought men were better but didn't know why. She also said it's women's lot in life to be home makers. An important job to be in the home as a wife, mother, care giver, cook, baker (all weekend for the coming week) and other 24/7 tasks that women are meant to do. I told her that is why she thinks women are not good doctors: they can't study hard, like the boys can, they have to 'get the dinner' every night. I hope that antiquated and just dumb idea is no where near these students.
There are all sorts of people in the world. Get used to it.
Yep! More and more study time. I am in my final year of med school and it's still a lot of studying.
Update?
I’m applying for engineering and this still gives me anxiety lol
You must be very bright. High levels of intelligence can be a handicap in practicing medicine.
I'm entering a Pre-med program this fall and this makes me so excited to meet my goals of becoming a surgeon--my ultimate goal from the time I was four years old!
