- *Santa Monica, CA - September 1, 2023* - In an effort to ensure the smooth operation of public facilities and maintain public safety, Santa Monica Police Officers approached an unhoused individual who had set up camp in front of a public restroom on Friday, September 1, 2023. The man's presence was obstructing access to the restroom, prompting the intervention.
Accompanied by a Department of Mental Health Clinician, the police officers sought to engage with the unhoused individual and provide support rather than simply asking him to move. The collaborative approach aimed to address any underlying issues that may have contributed to his situation.
The unhoused individual, who had been residing in the vicinity with a shopping cart containing his possessions, cooperated with the authorities. With the assistance of the mental health clinician, the man was able to gather his belongings and vacate the area voluntarily.
This incident reflects the ongoing efforts of the Santa Monica Police Department to address homelessness in a compassionate and holistic manner. By involving mental health professionals in such situations, the city aims to provide individuals experiencing homelessness with access to services and support that can help improve their circumstances.
The City of Santa Monica remains committed to finding solutions to homelessness that prioritize the dignity and well-being of all its residents. Collaborative efforts between law enforcement and mental health experts play a pivotal role in achieving this goal.

confiscate grocery carts immediately. It's theft.
You comment out of sheer ignorance because they haven't gotten to you yet. They will. Theyre coming for you too.
Reopen the state mental hospitals and get these people the help they need.
You are correct. That would take care of half the problem, at least.
The problem is Hollywood is buying up property in Maui Hawaii so they don't have money for a mental institution but money of buying property inmaui Hawaii. Go figure.
Are you willing to lose an additional 5% of your paycheck? Were being taxed in some areas of California over 25% .
@BeachLife66
I pay 23% of my paycheck in taxes. If you add 5% or more I will be over 25% . The reason the mental are not in mental hospitals is because it cost 50k and up to 65k for just 1 of them for 1 year . California is also proposing a 25% on people that buy and sale homes . The future is going to be higher taxation. Inflation you say? Add that to the tax bracket and we are there .
@@BeachLife66 I pay about 25% out of my paycheck. 20% for sure 10 hours a week. If you count insurance and 401k it is definitely over 25%
Finally got this guy off of the end of the pier !! Now he lives in the restrooms !
Those carts cost $600-$1,000. Arrest them.
It used to be considered steeling when you took a grocery cart out of parking area, now they do nothing..Stores pay lots of money to replace them. I've seen them put them in garbage trucks when the home less leave them behind which is a waste. Should be giving back to the place the cart came from.Theres a company you can call to pick up the carts.
Arrest them, and then what? Jail them for stealing a shopping cart?
News flash nobody gives a damn about those carts. The cleaning crews throw them into the garbage trux and crush em.up along with wheelchairs and anything else that isn't cemented to the ground.
When I was young in the 80's...... The bums didn't carry around 800 pounds of junk. Just a backpack.
We need the insane asylums back 😢😢😢
They should but properly run with proper medical care.
Let's look at the real problem here, "mental illness" it's hard when people don't accept help
Nice job Fabian. It sure is beautiful out there. I’m from Ct. I watch every video you put out. The guy with the shopping cart really needs help. Too bad. Too many like him around everywhere.
Give the "unhoused" a house;
put them in the jail jailhouse.
The current face of political/law enforcement failure..
So what are we going to do about crazy people on the streets?
Tell them to stay out of Santa Monica Beach and go to Venice Beach. Or they will get a beat down. Give them Venice Beach. Charge 10 bucks to go to Santa Monica Beach. Children free.
Re open mental hospitals and pay for the care of the mentally ill. Republicans don’t want to pay, Democrats think their rights are being violated. In the meantime, citizens of the US are dealing with the issues of the mentally ill living on the street
This is the kind of thing that scares away all the tourists and the locals and their families. Glad to see the police doing something.
No such thing as a homeless minimalist in Santa Monica, don't they get sick of lugging all that garbage around with them. Literally all they need is a backpack with some clothes and hygiene products, sleeping bag and tent, just the essentials when sleeping in the elements
They do not operate according to logic or sensibility. It is a neurotic tendency much like hoarding based in trying to find a feeling of control in a chaotic world.
He needs to be locked up and given mental health treatment like all the rest but less on the streets less money from the government
Give the homeless Venice Beach. If they try camping anywhere else, talk to the Venice Beach shot caller to bring him back to Venice.
The State of California is awful if this is how they handle the mentally ill and apparently it is
if only there was a vaccine for that , mask mandatr and 6 foot rule
Not mentally ill. Just never grew up.
Great videos
Well omg...after months he left his residence ( end of short pier) amazing he found concrete corner acceptable
These people need to be institutionalized. Or confined in gated housing communities. This is wrong to have these unsafe unsanitary unstable people on the streets. Stop the pampering and get honest. Call it by any other name.. it’s insanity.
Wow, is it that bad there that the little girl social worker has to wear a vest to protect herself.
Biden belongs there too.
they cant do anything to them for the stolen shopping carts?
What should they do? Incarcerate them for felony shopping cart theft?
do something
Walking blight
Forgot why nobody wants to deal with druggies
It’s ridiculous how the homeless are being called now the unhoused it’s a repeated cycle with the homeless people making a mess and being at a spot where he shouldn’t be.
WOW
from one spot to another, to another...
Is this the same dude that keeps shacking up on the pier
Yes
You voted for this california now deal with it
yes this guy's doing great!! One shoe on, one shoe off, definetly not playing with a full deck of cards!! Let's send some more of our tax dollars to Ukraine!!
Oh look another mental ward escapee!!
I see he moved on from the pagoda.
Looks like they sent Big Josh back to Venice.
HOW DID THAT HOMELESS MAN STEAL YOUR BIKE? LOL
Tookallof them todothat he should be looked after, mentally
I invite everyone to watch the movie, The Bad Batch. A Perfect solution, to our homeless issue.
Unhoused???? Really, now you're woke too???? 🤣
Vagrant
Do you use the term "Shell Shock" or Post Dramatic Stress Disorder?
Mentally ill, drug addicted, homeless vagrant is more like it.
@@smokingjoe9864I use the term "bum"
@@JHRod25 sure they are bums. Every Scoundrel needs a refuge. What are we going to do? Reagan cut mental health services. And no one wants to fund mental health services. Back in the 70s we would of put these bums in a mental hospital. That is not an option anymore.
How must it feel to be pushing a shopping cart full of junk around town? How must it feel to have nothing to show for all the years except wasted time?
So many broken people here. Truly sad.
This person is not living in reality. IMO, he's in desparate need of inpatient hospitalization, voluntary or not, for his personal safety. It's just a matter of time before a predator will hurt him or he will hurt himself.
I will "always" love ❤️ LA... My "home" town... Born/raised... Cali girl here 😊
@@helenofirvine Yes they do... I'm born/raised from Cali since 1967 grew up there right from East LA area... You must me young or not from there 🙂
Corn stock a laughing
5:22 faux lazy young bike riders too lazy to actually go for a real bike ride where they pedal the bike, wonder if the future generations won't have many muscles anymore
If i was a cop , I would ask the perp " how did those drugs work out for you ?
Or
"Oh , Im sorry my boot kicked you in the face ."
Sad I'm not a cop .
whos that cutie in yoga pants
It's amazing how de-socialized some of these people have become. They can't perceive what this looks like from the outside anymore nor would they care if they did.
