It was mostly a monologue… narcs hate to share spot light! He tested the waters first to see how Greene described himself; as soon as he said he is an empath Jordan feels he is in his element! Talking non stooping with not respect to the guess and just ruining the hole interview
I much admire JP but he talks too much , always wanting to hold forth instead of allowing others much time to develop their points. He frequently interrupts RG and I have seen this happen when in conversation with several other people.
Probably some ADHD in him. In some small similarities I do this occasionally when chatting but then I realise I need to remind myself to shut the f up and allow my compassionate ear to hear out those who I am having a conversation with. I would suppose that when one topic relates to another it is in that moment to bring forth a new point which is carried by the previous statement, which actually adds to the topic of discussion. I hear what you guys are saying though as people have noticed it where he sometimes jumps from one stepping stone to another but in my opinion (which means nothing) he's just really excited to continue talking about it. The man is just a very fast thinker.
Lets reflect, have you ever manipulated, have you ever made a mistake, have you ever hurt someone, have you ever taken anything that is not yours without asking first...? Do you always look pleasant, smiling, are you always feeling happy...? A good point to start is humbly and honestly admit our weaknesses and correct them first before judging and evaluating others. With ❤ Rev.M
Dr. Peterson, I'm one of your greatest fans. But please try to let your guests finish their points before you cut in. You have a lot of great guests, but I'm always left disappointed because you cut them off and I don't get to hear their thoughts.
I stopped listening to him because of his ego. When you cut off someone, you’re not mindful or present aware enough to notice (or maybe he does and doesn’t care = ego). His mannerisms are not humble basically he was rude and I’m sure he doesn’t respect all people. Any person who does this, is not someone I would follow or be agreeable with.
Johnny Carson could have a temper and was reportedly sometimes mean when he was drunk. Rather than being called a psychopath, these were considered traits somewhere within the normal range of human emotions
I don't know him but people can be mean or have a temper without being one of these monsters. The difference is the monsters know what they are doing is wrong and they literally do not care - they plan to use it to their benefit and consider it the right thing to do. They have zero empathy or remorse.
It seems to me that Jordan Peterson always does most of the talking. I wish he could really listen to Robert Greene instead of his own voice. I do enjoy hearing what he has to say, but give the other guy a chance to speak.
It appears that these two were working out who is the alpha. Yet Robert Greene patiently rode out Jordans knowledge interruptions. For the good of the podcast. I found it interesting and a lil annoying the times Jordan interrupted Robert.
That’s not how “alpha” behavior works, not least in an intellectual discussion. You’re bringing in primate/wolf hierarchical systems into the wrong paradigm.
Jordan Peterson does a lot of potentially highly manipulative things when he’s speaking, usually things to do with making people feel certain emotions, so it’s funny to watch him speak with someone who’s an expert at identifying those things.
The challenge is to stand your ground with grace and dignity to where you are heard and respected by these people...not sure that can be achieved though.
Ever so slightly unfortunate this edited version isn't fed back into Jordan Peterson's official RUclips domain, both JP & Robert-Greene are very intellectual
I think I am pretty agreeable, UNTIL someone tries to take advantage of me, then I go sometimes too far the other way sometimes. I loan stuff out maybe to readily, but if the person doesn't return my stuff or "forgets" to bring it back, then I lose it! And I don't like seeing others get taken advantage of either. So what personality type is that?
You sound a little like me…. It could well be co-dependent. As a child I was run over, boundaries destroyed. So, I would just assume folks would be as generous as me… and again and again, I was proven wrong and didn’t really learn much from it only to become resentful over time- which is for me to fix. So now the work is decernment…, slow to saying yes, and a willingness to learn when I get it wrong and misjudge the person.
I love Peterson. He can be pedantic. He cares so much about truth and accuracy his interactions come off less humane (except with family or close friends). Greene has a better balance of intellect and humanity consistently. The hour long debate on the definition of truth with Sam Harris was almost funny. Fry and Laurie have a sketch satirizing pedantry. Peterson would get a kick out of it. He’s serious but not lacking humility in fair context.
I love how Greene is aware of his shadow side, thats refreshing. I have never heard JP talking about his shadow side maybe it is due to his narcissistic aspect that many famous ppl have.
I learned nothing aside from the fact that a psychopath will talk over and through his guest at every opportunity. Why ask a question and then talk right over the guest? Was that the point? If so, this should have been entitled “Observable traits of a psychopath”. Well done
I fully understand why Johnny Depp got away from Hollyweird ,he is introvert and a very humble and goodhearted man. The reason so many on this earth love him.
I wasn’t hoping for a monologue lecture type experience from either man; I like the back-and-forth, sometimes overlapping of comments in conversation. A lot of criticism of JP comes from people who can’t follow ordinary conversation of people with a lot of ideas to share.
@@tessangelabeck8958he interrupted Robert Green, who was referencing the superficiality and unscrupulousness of people in LA/Hollywood as part of a greater point, to say “and they’re obsessed with FAME! people in Hollywood also have an obsession with fame” no shit, buddy. Thanks for killing the rest of Greene’s greater point to interject the unrelated but widely known fact that yes, in fact, those Hollywood types want fame. Green gives very precise, relevant, and easily understood (yet usually not widely known) anecdotes and stories for his setups and to make his point more interesting and easy to picture across multiple setups/situations. He presents his information like a scientist would, with appropriate language to be clear about the amount of evidence and correlation vs causation for things he’s hypothesised. Meanwhile, Peterson is all conjecture and he states his hypothesis or outright personally held opinion/belief as if it were proven fact. One of these guys knows what he’s talking about and is a reliable source for information bc he tells you exactly what he’s gleaning it from. The other guy is so drunk on his own pseudo intellectualism and self importance that he feels the need to interject so everyone can hear him contribute shit like “Hollywood people want fame” I listen to smart people sharing ideas all the time and they do it in a way that is relevant and measured and doesn’t seem like watching a dog with a bone like Peterson does. His agenda is always too personal, too prone to his own bias. He finds his proof to fit his belief, not the other way around. The smartest stuff he says is when he repeats someone else’s points. I’ve wanted so badly to like him since the near decade ago I heard him summarizing his book on Maher I think? It’s still written in my reminders “get 12 rules for life” and I did eventually get it, btw, and I genuinely thought it was a joke until I realized it wasn’t. What I can’t abide is how emotionally affected he gets when met with any pushback, how rude and susceptible to bias he is, how desperate he is to find a winner and a loser in every situation, and how completely belligerent he is when buying into and defending his own subjective “observations” He cherry picks and brings his ego to every subject as if it were an unruly child screaming during a dinner party. I will acknowledge my bias in that Greene is my favorite author and I’ve read all of his stuff and really wanted to hear more from him in this. But JP would probably annoy me just the same if he were interviewing somebody lame like Katy Perry or Ted Cruz or whatever. He’s cosplaying intellectualism and the worst part is he’s convinced _himself_ that he’s a genius

I’ve been a bit distracted by a couple health setbacks myself and have done limited reading online but I was very concerned for Jordan. What Peterson doesn't mention is that the inverse is true as well, regarding what is basically game theory (hawk vs dove game). If you put a few agreeables (doves) into a society full of disagreeables (hawks), the agreeables have an advantage cooperating together over the other members as whole. While the hawks cannot cooperate with each other because of infighting. And like he says if society is mostly doves, if you put in a few hawks, the hawks clean house. Eventually in either scenario an equilibrium is reached, which is a society that consists of some agreeable members and some disagreeable ones.

Those who are agreable easily recognize those who are not... that's why they are the first victims of psychopaths. If most people were agreable, they would naturally isolate those who are not. But, in reality, most people are somewhere between the two extremes and, most of the time, people choose, for convenience and to avoid having problems, to side with the psychopath, leaving those on the opposite side of the spectrum alone. In today's society, sadly, nice people are isolated because they are considered weak and harmless and psychopaths are supported because they are stronger, dangerous and apparently charismatic. If the world were full of kind, agreable, empathetic, nice people, it would definitely be a better place!

Omg I was the “greedy baby” the guy is talking about. My mom said I used to throw empty bottle across the room yelling “milk!” (or “ilk” cos I couldn’t say milk yet😂)
Maybe you were Out of the 100% Milk Phase & Needed Some FOOD. Don’t know? But, Lazy or Unknowing Mom’s Can misjudge a Baby’s Needs. You may have simply been underfed! Don’t Know! 🕊
Bottles???!!!
I love you Jordan, but for the love of God, let the other guy speak
The other guy? You don't know who Robert Greene is?
They both narcissist Robert Green said he is one. Not to mention it’s different types. They both understand and respect each other. It’s not a fight to chat you can individually look up both and listen to them separately.
It drives me crazy wh3n interviewers don't let the guest speak.
Jordan is a narsissistic psychopath. He won't let anyone else speak.
lol
Robert Greene and Peter Jordanson, is it christmas ?
Jordon, you're talking over the gentleman you're interviewing. He who talks most....
Not sure if you’re reading comments Dr Peterson, but you have to decide if you’re interviewing or psycho analyzing your guests. I love your content, however sometime it’s hard to listen because you don’t let your guests talk
JP doesn't care.
This is 8+minutes, full episode is 1'43". You are judging the book by it's cover...
When the interviewer answers all his own questions...
😂👏👏
They are having a discussion.
Yes. Jordon has a problem with that. More like thinking aloud though. Still, interesting...
It was mostly a monologue… narcs hate to share spot light! He tested the waters first to see how Greene described himself; as soon as he said he is an empath Jordan feels he is in his element! Talking non stooping with not respect to the guess and just ruining the hole interview
😂😂
I much admire JP but he talks too much , always wanting to hold forth instead of allowing others much time to develop their points. He frequently interrupts RG and I have seen this happen when in conversation with several other people.
Exactly. Holding forth. Often wish I could hear more of the other speaker's thoughts.
Agreed. But his fault comes from enthusiasm more than a need to shut others down. He can listen properly if he puts effort into it.
It‘s probably genetic.
That's why they pay him the big bucks. He never really tells us anything, but the title and thumbnail stick.
Reminds me I need to clean my garage. Thank you Jordan. Sincerely.
I find when Jordan is being interviewed, or by himself, is much easier to listen to
Lets reflect, have you ever manipulated, have you ever made a mistake, have you ever hurt someone, have you ever taken anything that is not yours without asking first...? Do you always look pleasant, smiling, are you always feeling happy...? A good point to start is humbly and honestly admit our weaknesses and correct them first before judging and evaluating others. With ❤ Rev.M
Dr. Peterson, I'm one of your greatest fans. But please try to let your guests finish their points before you cut in. You have a lot of great guests, but I'm always left disappointed because you cut them off and I don't get to hear their thoughts.
I think JBP allowed Greene to answer, but, elaborate … Not so much. 🕊
He won’t read this.
@@SatyaKaliYam It can also be ADHD. He's so blunt. So I don't think that he's doing it on purpose. They're just impulses.
I didn't mind how JP conducted this convo. Maybe waiting a little longer to respond would be better.
Loves the sound of his own voice.
What a treat - two wizards engaged in an intellectually provcative discussion.
Johnny Carson could have a temper and was reportedly sometimes mean when he was drunk. Rather than being called a psychopath, these were considered traits somewhere within the normal range of human emotions
It's a spectrum. Something like Jesus Christ, Walter Payton, Johnny Carson, Ted Bundy, Joseph Stalin.
I don't know him but people can be mean or have a temper without being one of these monsters. The difference is the monsters know what they are doing is wrong and they literally do not care - they plan to use it to their benefit and consider it the right thing to do. They have zero empathy or remorse.
@@wordup897 How does Jesus Christ belong in this list?
@@rosalvabooksllc354 Same as Ted Bundy, just on a longer timeline.
It seems to me that Jordan Peterson always does most of the talking. I wish he could really listen to Robert Greene instead of his own voice. I do enjoy hearing what he has to say, but give the other guy a chance to speak.
he's a total narc, pathological, probably a psychopath too
This. I enjoy his insights, but he likes the sound of his own voice too much.
@antiochiaadtaurum3786 He has none of those traits you mentioned. Stop assuming.
When you have the most brilliant mind alive in front of you, let him speak. You are have nothing better to do than listen and learn.
@@Blue-Poisoned lol
It appears that these two were working out who is the alpha. Yet Robert Greene patiently rode out Jordans knowledge interruptions. For the good of the podcast. I found it interesting and a lil annoying the times Jordan interrupted Robert.
It would have been funny if Robert shut off his camera and ended the podcast after the sixth interuption or so.
That’s not how “alpha” behavior works, not least in an intellectual discussion. You’re bringing in primate/wolf hierarchical systems into the wrong paradigm.
@@schmingusss nah, this is not strategic.
No, Jordan is being rude. He is not being interviewed
Please stop interrupting Robert Greene! He could barely establish a train of thought without you trying to showcase your knowledge when he’d talk.
Love this conversation but its criminal that Jordan is interrupting so often
5:34- very important point
Ever so slightly unfortunate this edited version isn't fed back into Jordan Peterson's official RUclips domain, both JP & Robert-Greene are very intellectual
who else was waiting for other celebrities to be referred to like Ellen de Generes? 😅
What a great conversation.
There are no free riders. Those people who are agreeable are taking way more from psychopaths and they have horrible boundaries.
They tend to offer simple solutions and simplistic definitions to complex issues. Such as this one.....
It’s a short clip. No one would accuse either of being simplistic when allowed to expound fully.
@@pnwlady Yes I'm sure the full clip is so saturated with contradictions, digressions and vague correlations as to be meaningless altogether.
@@corybarnes2341 sounds like you know everything already. Good luck with that. 😂
Jordan Peterson: you put one psychopath in a room full of agreeable people, and he will just take over.
Takes over the conversation.
Not if others are shrewd and know how to disarm them.
If they wrote a book together, that would be the next bestseller
I learned nothing aside from the fact that a psychopath will talk over and through his guest at every opportunity. Why ask a question and then talk right over the guest? Was that the point? If so, this should have been entitled “Observable traits of a psychopath”. Well done
Poleeze!
Id call it narcissism
I fully understand why Johnny Depp got away from Hollyweird ,he is introvert and a very humble and goodhearted man. The reason so many on this earth love him.
I love JP …but he has a tendency to break up someone’s conversation , to interrupt …..
The other guy is so drunk on his own pseudo intellectualism and self importance that he feels the need to interject so everyone can hear him contribute shit like “Hollywood people want fame”
I listen to smart people sharing ideas all the time and they do it in a way that is relevant and measured and doesn’t seem like watching a dog with a bone like Peterson does.
What I can’t abide is how emotionally affected he gets when met with any pushback, how rude and susceptible to bias he is, how desperate he is to find a winner and a loser in every situation, and how completely belligerent he is when buying into and defending his own subjective “observations”
He cherry picks and brings his ego to every subject as if it were an unruly child screaming during a dinner party.
Jesus Christ that’s long, sorry. I didn’t realize I’d typed so much.
@@rainbomg Well . . well done! You offered a thorough and articulate descriptions of Peterson’s response and speech style. I wonder if his style in conversation could be accepted as being intended only to give agreement or endorsement to Greene. I’ve never listened to what Greene promotes but just believe you that his expertise is important to hear. Do you have a feel for the timeline on this in relation to when Peterson completed his hospitalization for use of a drug that potentially could help him not go nuts in panic about the extreme illnesses that have grabbed his daughter and his wife? I’ve been a bit distracted by a couple health setbacks myself and have done limited reading online but I was very concerned for Jordan. I admire the many times I’ve seen him apologize and admit to having a temper that flashes. I’m sure he knows very well that he often can’t quite keep up with the speed of his thoughts. He also has described experiencing extreme depression. He seems compelled to think about everything, and often I find his opinions quite valuable, but he might interrupt also partly of concern that he’s going to miss making a point that he imagines is fair to inject into the conversation. I have a hard time keeping up with fast exchanges and am horrible at following the ball in spectator sports. I do much better at comprehension when I can read a story. Anyway, I think I have admitted to enough imperfections in communication. Your analysis is very appreciated.

@@kathyhansen2820 I suppose you could say the same about how service people treat their customers. I'm a very merciful and patient person (to a fault) which is why I had to learn how to set boundaries and that, at times, sadly requires being not the most pleasant.
Peterson-what about Netanyahu?? You ate meals with him - a psychopath?? Or, no, because he can help your ambitions?
What is the title of your book?
What Peterson doesn't mention is that the inverse is true as well, regarding what is basically game theory (hawk vs dove game). If you put a few agreeables (doves) into a society full of disagreeables (hawks), the agreeables have an advantage cooperating together over the other members as whole. While the hawks cannot cooperate with each other because of infighting. And like he says if society is mostly doves, if you put in a few hawks, the hawks clean house. Eventually in either scenario an equilibrium is reached, which is a society that consists of some agreeable members and some disagreeable ones.
A bully only understands a bigger bully🤣🤣 chronic problem being toxic, not necessarily produces nothing good.
I do not think JP talked too much in this at all. He’s passionate about this topic. Good conversation
As Robert Green says to Peterson, I think "The Big Five" is a simplification.

Jordan, your view does not have to be shared at every topic that arises. Let your guests talk for goodness sake, and just listen

Your blowing JPs ego out of his comfort zone.
As for the interrupting this is normal in a limited timeframe.
Disagreeable people are a vital, fundamental driver of civilisation.
