    A separate winding key is just something else to lose, imagine how frustrating it would be to realise you can’t wear your £100,000 watch because you’ve left the key in your other mansion, then you’d have to send your private jet to go and collect it for you because you want to wear that watch at the supermodel party your hosting on your yacht. I’m glad I don’t have those kind of worries.

    That water bucket analogy was simply elegant.

    • @kemperspace
      @kemperspace 4 года назад +9

      flawed though... water exiting at a higher pressure also exits at a higher flow rate. This fills the bucket faster, dumping the bucket more often per unit of time. For this analogy to suit, it has to be a regulator that creates a uniform rate of flow. All this analogy does is create a uniform pressure on the water wheel... but the rate at which the pressure is applied still decreases over time, thus the water wheel speed will decrease over time as well.

    • @el-bg4hr
      @el-bg4hr 4 года назад +1

      Chad Kemp But isn't the two-water-bucket analogy much similar to how the watch works? The main spring (and the sub spring too) in the watch isn't like a uniform water flow, it's like a bucket of water. Power flow starts strong and gets weakened as time passes. If it could be compared to a uniform flow of water then two-step mechanism wouldn't be of any need in the first place.

    Fascinating show! I’m sure this has been mentioned below, but it begs the question of “why not use a Remontoir” instead of the second barrel to regulate the power dispersion? As usual Lange goes the extra mile in innovation while keeping their watches understated. The ratchet sounds of the winding mechanism was worth the price of admission! As DJ Kahli would say, “another one!” Hats off to you Watchfinder.

    Two more things I noticed: 1) the calendar is not a simple disk with 31 numbers like on those cheap-ass Rolexes. Its a complex system that shuffles the two digits in some German sexy way. 2) The minute hand is not continuous, but ticks every 15 sec to a 1/4 of a minute division. I guess these two complications add to the price tag too. Overall impression: everything is relative. Rolex owners now look like some provincial bourgeois.

    Fascinating watch, particularly the power distribution system and enormous power reserve. While mentioning the price of the watch you should also mention the price of the driver of winding because just in case someone loses it I am sure he needs to pay atleast $5K for the driver!!!!!!

    I had a sneak peak in Panerai 10 days, if I understand correctly they have combination of 3 springs. Don't know how accurate it is tho. But yeah, 70h+ power reserve is my main requirement for the watch. Although regarding this Lange, reasonable price would be the next requirement)))

    It would be nice to have had a slightly more technical explanation. Is it a typical remontoire d’egalité spring, discharging after 1 min, given the jumping minute hand?

    Clever. But lethal. Imagine all the coiled power when fully wound - if it lets go on your wrist you will probably lose your hand.
    Well maybe not, but y'know... :-)

    This made me smile, what a fantastic piece of engineering. The comparison example made me think of the Romans for some reason and the great inventions they had. Things have come along from then, but we can still have innovation and truly beautiful mechanical pieces which I'm very grateful for. Luckily technology has not completely ruined these things but only enhanced them.

    In the Intro when he says Watchfinder is available in the USA, does that mean if you order a watch from their website in that particular country you don’t have to pay import taxes?
