    Very clear and thorough. Thank you for breaking things down and explaining why they ask certain financial questions because it helps us fill out knowledgeably.

    The question under "tell us about your parents". If the parents are legally married but separated do you answer married or not? The separated option is only available when the parent is providing the information.

    My son qualifies to file his FAFSA as an independent for his grad school. For some reason he is unable to enter any personal finance questions such as bank accounts. The area is grayed out and inaccessible. He submitted a help ticket 3 weeks ago and it has been crickets.Any ideas how this may have happened?

    if you receive federal benefits, you dont have to put your parents finances? Are you able to just submit it?

    Is there a certain minimum amount of non-retirement assets or income whereby it would be a waste of time to fill out the FAFSA? For example, if your assets are over X millions or if parent's income is over $350K/year? I realize that things may change if you have multiple kids in college but just wanted to know at what point does it become pointless to go through this process. Thanks.

    So single parent filing with foreign taxes and other the other parent know about is unknown. Then does the IRS retrieval shows zero itself? And what to fill up about the other parent? In short how not to get the form rejected in these cases?

    Thank you. For students filing the paper-based application and mailing it with post office, do they still need to create an FSA ID number?

    • @collegemoneymethod
      @collegemoneymethod  10 месяцев назад

      Yes, students should still create an FSA ID because after the paper FAFSA is processed, they will manage the FAFSA and federal student aid benefits on studentaid.gov, which requires an FSA ID to login.

    • @yamatomusashi1412
      @yamatomusashi1412 10 месяцев назад

      @@collegemoneymethod Thank you for prompt reply. So students should create FSA ID for future logins to access their accounts on studentaid.gov. What about parents? Do they also need FSA ID to login and access their child's account in future? Thank you again for your help.

    Thank you for your explanation!
    In the foreign income exclusion section: if the number is negative, then can I put a minus? or just put zero? ex). - 50000

    • @collegemoneymethod
      @collegemoneymethod  10 месяцев назад

      You're welcome. You should put the positive amount of the foreign income exclusion.

    Why am I not seeing the parent asset questions on mine? Please help???

    • @collegemoneymethod
      @collegemoneymethod  10 месяцев назад

      There are three reasons why a parent may not have to answer the parent asset questions. More information can be found here: www.collegemoneymethod.com/new-paths-to-excluding-parent-assets-from-eligibility-calculation/

      Unfortunately, this is a technical problem with the FAFSA. You might try to call Federal Student Aid for help with next steps. studentaid.gov/help-center/contact

    I have a question on checking/savings totals. I am on my 85 yo fathers accounts to help him pay his bills, but its his money that he gets deposits from his social security and his pensions. Do I include those amounts in my total?

    • @collegemoneymethod
      @collegemoneymethod  10 месяцев назад

      No, you would not have to claim that if it's a joint account for purposes of helping your father with his finances.

    Do both parents need to be invited and do both parents need to fill out the form if they are married and file joint?

    • @collegemoneymethod
      @collegemoneymethod  10 месяцев назад

      No, if parents file taxes "Married filing jointly" then only one parent needs to be invited and contribute to the FAFSA.

    I am a student made less to $2K / year so I did not file the tax returns but I have open Roth IRA for the income I made from working. Do I need to include that Roth IRA balance in "Current Net Worth of Investments, Including Real Estate"

      No, a contributor never includes balances or amounts in any qualified/retirement account.
