I have a question. I am a US citizen who completed her high school in a foreign country. I got my credentials evaluated. For the high school graduate section of the form, how would I complete it. When I chose high school graduate it asked me to choose the US state and high school I graduated from. I am confused about how to complete this section.

You will answer State-recognized high school equivalent (e.g., GED certificate). You can find more instruction on the FAFSA PDF Q17, pg 22 studentaid.gov/sites/default/files/2024-25-fafsa.pdf pretty much you have proven an ATB or ability to benefit from higher education.

My question is on the free/reduced lunch. Our state (mi) has given this to all students, so its no longer something you have to apply for to qualify for. So while my daughter is getting it, its not because we applied and were approved. So do I answer yes or no?

Great Point Karen! I would say do not answer YES, because it will be evident from your AGI (Adjusted gross Income Line 11 on your 1040) that you do not qualify. It would only delay Financial Aid Award Letters, trigger "verification" forms and in the end not help you gain more need-based aid. Let me know if this response creates more questions🙂

First major confusion before you even start, it is NOT pronounced FASFA, it is FAFSA please. Enough confusion already so at least get that no-brainer part right. Thank you for your help.

sorry, I have an accent but I have filled out FAFSA's for over 2 decades and willing to share my experience for free in my spare time. I also served on a scholarship foundation for over a decade. All in my spare time and for free. Just trying to help...

@@pivotalcollegeyears My apologies. Thank you very much for all that you do to help students from low income families pay for college.
