i dont mind it being on earth like the earth war books and comics, but it NEEDS to take place AFTER aliens or even Alien Resurrection, it wont make any sense to have an alien encounter on earth b4 they was ever encountered.
All we ever wanted was to see Space Marines fighting it out against Aliens and Predators, like in the Dark Horse comics.....

You can do that in video games and not everyone wants that. I am hopeful and have confidence Noah Hawley won’t appeal to this, instead expanding on the deeper universe of the franchise.
Leave the bombast and (hopefully well done) action to “theatrical” releases because apparently that’s all people will go to theaters for anymore. There’s just so much more to this than what’s been done.

I just want a good Alien movie. But please keep the Predators out.
Even disregarding Scotts prequels there has always been speculation as to how much the company knew about the Alien before the events of Alien, not a stretch that they had foreknowledge and retasking of the Nostromo crew to LV-4226 was not "standard protocol of investigating a distress beacon" as presented, Ash without a doubt had prior knowledge and knew more about the Alien than he told them even when he had been disabled.
Yeah I think the last minute change of the science officer to introduce Ash to the Nostromo crew is definitely sus. Clearly the company knew something beforehand. What and how is the question
I just don't see how this can work as a prequel set on Earth without invalidating every Alien movie.
Unless the xenomorphs don't appear at all and it's all about the origins of Weyland-Yutani?
I predict this series will be hated across the board and it will be completely disregarded as canon. It sounds like Noah Hawley actually wants to tell a story completely unrelated to Alien (about trans humanism) and is just using the Alien brand as a vehicle to do it. Origins of the Weyland Yutani corporation would be interesting, but Xenomorphs already on Earth before the events of any of the films is an awful idea. Perhaps Hawley thinks this is being subversive and original, but it actually destroys one of the central tensions of the films, that being this organism is so vicious and virile in it’s reproduction that any presence on Earth would lead to rapid infestation and eradication of the human race. A xenomorph on Earth, contained while the rest of the world carries on in blissful ignorance, would drastically trivialise and minimise the existential threat, danger and fear we associate with the creature.

If the xenomorphs got on Earth, there wouldn’t be anyone to tell the Nostromo about it or anyone to board that ship.
That is unless the crew were kept from knowing by Ash that they were already on earth?

The first Dark Horse graphic novel shows aliens overrunning the Earth. Very powerful stuff.
Maybe not an overrun yet, they could do a covert operation like in the original Predator and after the infestation is taken care of, a corporation or government just covers it up so it's not public knowledge. Of course there will have to xenomorphs that escape and small infestations pop up here and there while humans (and maybe even some Predators!) are just playing a covert game of wack a mole.
@@andyz3925 How could Ash possibly follow everyone in the crew around since child-hood, and prevent them from hearing any news about the obviously inevitable escape of the aliens from captivity?
This could be good if done right. The show should explain why Weylad-Yutani seems obsessed with getting a xenomorph. It should also show what one of the marines meant when he said "another bug hunt". Like another species that was encountered, that is nowhere near as deadly as the xenomorphs.
I think it would be cool if they introduced greys or some other alien race in the movies tbh 😂 like if the xenomorphs were headed to earth on a ship with a few humans left on it and the greys come to intervene 😂😅
I for one would love to see an adaptation of the novel Alien: Cold Forge. I found that to be exceptionally entertaining.
In this prequel we find out the alien is actually called Gerald.

just seems to devalue the 1st few films by saying "oh hey, lets have it take place on earth. just for kicks"
I'm always concerned about reboots of films, IPs I've liked since a child. Especially now, my expectations are low at best.

i wonder if this is based off of the Alien paperback that came out years ago where the Xenomorphs over ran Earth. they started dropping nukes on Alien hives. that book was crazy!

It is, I even remember that when Riply got back to earth from the ship after aliens and alien, it was xenomorphs all over earth overrunning them, and for those who know what was behind it all… it would be rad if we get to see that specific xenomorph onscreen.
I'm really encouraged by Noah's quotes. It seems like he has a good grasp and appreciation for the lore. I anticipate great things from the man!
Also, wasn't there a Darkhorse Comics series about aliens on Earth back in the 80s? Man, I'm old. xD
I hope they don't ignore the lore aspect of Prometheus and Covenant. It would be ridiculous in the same way Star wars now seems like a broken mess.
Quite frankly a series based post Alien/Aliens film about the eventual Alien/Human war like in Alien Earth Hive would have been the natural progression of the series. That is the ultimate "what if" that has been hanging over our heads since we discovered how fast they can reproduce and how hard they are to kill, what happens when they get to earth and aren't confined?
Basing the film in the past makes no real sense, there are no stakes, we know they are contained or the later films do not happen. We also know that if they escape there is not enough tech and preparedness to fight them in the past so we instantly lose. In the future WY and the other CORPs/Governments have had a few engagements with them to study before they get to Earth so humanity actually has a chance to win.
An Alien Apocalypse type movie with those parameters is what I want to see. A zombie apocalypse/judgement day scenario with Xenomorphs multiplying exponentially that is a desperate fight for survival on a species level.
It probably won't happen, but I dig the idea that the X factor in creating androids turns out to be alien (predator, space jockey, etc) technology - specifically something that yutani corp uncovered and that is why weyland acquired them.
You set things on Earth, it is yet another prequel and somehow the alien is alluded to in the future. I see those three very tall obstacles to overcome. I would rather see the money invested in a retro-future based on another science fiction novel series of the 50s, 60s, or 70s.
Gotta be honest I find the title alittle drab. "Alien Romulus" atleast sounds interesting. I'd like the series to atleast subtley connect to Scott's prequels to give some consistency in the Franchise; but we'll see.
I do have some faith in Hawley, and I like those quotes. It sounds like he gets that the xenomorphs are really the sort of existential threat (like zombies) that work best as a catalyst to tell very human stories (like Train to Busan). They are fascinating in their own right, the xenomorphs, but there's not much of a story you could tell about just them. It's all about what happens to another species, like humans, when this invasive predator (also Predator) gets dropped in.
I think they can pull this off if in the canon they keep the alien infestations covert and they are being taken out by corporations and governments, trying to keep them out of the public eye.
Even if it's a fan fiction, massive invasion I'm looking forward to it since FX has a pretty good track record with shows and should give them free reign. I think HBO, Apple TV, Netflix and Prime (the last two are hit and miss) are the only others I would trust to do this show.
Then again I love everything Alien, even the prequel movies and comics.
No. If the corporations and government succeed in keeping the aliens a secret, that makes the alien seem weak and controllable.
As has been said - the premise sounds unusual, in that a large feature of prior films was preventing the xonomorph from ever reaching earth...at all costs. On the other hand - I have to be confident that the writer knows this, so I remain optimistic that there is some way to do it...or that we are making assumptions about the show that aren't correct.
I really wish they would have gone with teh Direction that Dark Horse Comics went with after Aliens vs the prison planet they did for 3 . I envision a series where what really happened is that there was a team of Synthetics in a ship that was hidden that had been sent down as well . they collected many eggs with the face huggers and had them in storage on the Sulaco . . Ripley kills the Queen . But since The Synthetics had loaded up the eggs on the ship they got back to Earth , The Synthetics had pushed the cryobeds to a escape shuttle which landed safely . Hicks Newt and Ripley where questioned as was Bishop . But the original bishop was shoved out teh airlock with a copy which said that Ripley Newt and Hicks had in fact been plants to ruin the mission and they where responsible for the deaths of the Marines.
The Suloco was "destroyed" and all records erased of their deeds to protect them . But we discover that the Sulaco is safe and fullof eggs and a new queen
I thought Prometheus was the coolest movie. The same level as Man of Steel because they bother seemingly everyone. I love them both.
Just when you thought the Alien franchise couldn't be damaged any further...
A prequel on earth...
where either the aliens escape, meaning Ripley, hew crew and the marines already knew about them,
or they don't escape, completely trampling on the idea that some species are too dangerous to try and contain.
I've been so looking forward to this series since first learning of it. The most important part of any entry into the alien franchise are the characters. I think it's also important that the show not cave to fan service. So I'm holding my breath.
The setting doesn't make it bad. It's just thst there is a lot of pre existing lore to hopefully not contradict.
I'm sure it will be as good as Prometheus and it sequels. 😢

I think it will be based on the idris elbas character said in Prometheus about a facility that exploded under his supervision.
I'm taking a wait and see attitude. The Alien IP has disappointed for years now.
Alien is one of those ideas that can't be put back in the box once it's let out. H.R. Giger had lightning in a bottle when he created the xenomorph; now that it's been taken out of the shadows, the mystery's gone. ALIEN and ALIENS are two of my top faves. Everything that's come after has been frustrating to watch.
Not sure why everyone is saying the show will be cannon breaking... the last episode will end with Ripley waking up in bed, grasping her chest, breathing heavy and saying, "WHAT A TERRIBLE DREAM!"
Sadly for us, it won't be a dream... just another needless prequel.
All I can say on the subject of ALIEN: EARTH is this. This is a none stateter if your a fan of the Dark Horse: Aliens comics and Novals series, they have a senario on what happens when the xeno spore gets to earth and to say the least "GETS LOOOSE"!! It's called "Aliens: Earth Hive". Earth was completly lost!! I refer to you to read "ORONA'S FINAL REPORT" on the HOW BAD it all went and also How SO QUICKLY it happened. The Dark Horse: Aliens: Earth Hive senario is the ONLY version I validate and see put on the stream of Movie screen.
I hope Hawley sticks to Canon. If so and this is set 30 yrs before Alien to show the forming of weiland yutani, I am really curious how in the heck Xenomorphs are already infesting earth?
My nickels worth of thought is that the series will show the launching of the Nostromo. By the time it arives to LV426, perhaps a 2nd engineer ship (unknowingly to Nostromo crew) managed to launch to earth and make it there it too with thousands of eggs on board. If so I sure hope it reveals a type of struggle for the 1st ship when launching and reveal how it became a derelict ship but I guess that cant make sense either because the derelict ship had already been there for how mamy thousands of years?
Hope the writers for the show get it together and blow our minds with the storyline.
One critique: establishing the intrigue of the "unknown" is great, but it simply can't be maintained forever. Eventually, questions must be answered or fatigue will set in. A story teller can maintain the mystery indefinitely, so criticizing a work for revealing a mystery needs to be done extremely thoughtfully. Was it the right time for the majority even if it wasn't right for you? Was the reveal handled well or was it butchered?
One of the things I look forward to is to see what can be done if anything to stop a species like the Zenomorph! Remember Hadleys Hope! With the Predator vs Alien franchise the Predators realised how dangerous the Alien species is thus in the event of an out break nothing short of Nuclear cleansing will do! David has an army of these embryos just waiting to be released " LOOK UPON MY WORKS AND DESPAIR"!

on the comic front we will soon be presented with Aliens vs Avengers and Black Panther vs. The Predator.
!. Marvel comics already has an alien species analogous to the Xenomorph, THE BROOD! Which are more frightening than the Xeno.
A. They possess cognitive abilities.
B. They travel through space within the husk of half dead space whales.
2. Black Panther vs. The Predator has already been done several time. except it was titled Batman vs. The Predator
the only hopeful realization of these two respective releases, is if the writers connect the Xernomorphs to the history of the Brood. The brood backstory is that they entered the region of space where marvel stories take place is due to them fleeing a threat they could not handle. If that threat was in fact Xenomorphs...that would be cool.
Alien Game: Take a shot every time you read Xenomorph in the comments. And by shot I mean a shot of water because we need to hydrate in this heat.
With the continued down fall of disney i have faith ithers are learning from those mistakes and arr back to aimiing for quality again
Noah Hawley is an excellent show runner. He did Legion which was mostly pretty great (IMO)

All I can say is JH’s adaptation of Legion was solid and quite entertaining. While his adaptations of the film Fargo was absolutely outstanding. So I’m not going into this thick there are lines he can’t cross just because that’s the way I feel. I will let it stand alone and judge it on its own merits….

Great, another caprica. They had Alien Anthologies, which looked great and could possibly be expanded into an Anthology series, but no. Alien on earth; no thanks. Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised.
I am always a bit skeptical about new Alien projects considering that the most recent of the previous outings just weren't that good. Honestly, I really think that the precept of lightning only strikes once (or twice) holds here. Aside from that, setting it in the not too distant future here on earth strikes me as a way to keep production costs down. "Alien in L.A." As is always the case in any type of storytelling endeavor, the axiom always holds, "It's all in the writing." You can always make a bad film (or TV show) from a good script but, you can never make a good film from a bad script. The first things the writing room is going to have to get right is to have good, sympathetic, fully rounded characters; a compelling story with a strong arch; and a strong, well thought out, fully realized world for the story and characters to play out in.
I loved the original Alien film series the first one was the scariest the second one was the best Ripley's comment about the percentage was profound and resonates even in real life. The Prometheus film to me weren't that good doe it fill in a lot of the back story of the Alien's yes but to me it wasn't required. If the series stays faithful to the original series I probably will like it. I liked the Alien vs Predator movies was a good crossover series . I did love "Prey" Predator movie.
Mmm, "Earth" also makes me think "underground" - maybe an underground research lab on planet Earth, as that would be logical in terms of maximum containment? Nevertheless, the first episode is going to have a lot to do in terms of scene setting, character building and neat placing in the well established time line. If they mess that up, it's going to come off as uncredible right off the bat, and that would be a real pity.

This will be the show that breaks the unofficial shared universe between Blade Runner and Alien, no way they keep the Soviet Union, like Blade Runner did, which means I am unsure if they keep Union of Progressive Peoples.
As long as the lore is respected and utilized to create an engaging, terrifying story, which is the hallmark of the Alien mythos. Not like Disney with the current iteration of Star Wars corrupting this franchise's mythos with all of the social woke crap that has ruined beloved storytelling. That's my take on it. Honestly, I'd rather they just gave Noah Hawley the same budget and told him to create an original science fiction series. There's no need to bring Aliens back again.

well if the aliens came to Earth, then wouldnt this show fall between Alien and Aliens? After the xenomorphs were discovered, and Weyland or whoever wanted to bring them back to Earth to use as a weapon. Sounds like its already setting up for failure

Absurd. Zenos Reaching earth before discovery by the Prometheus much less the nostromo makes zero sense. I’m a hardcore fan of the original and the Cameron version. Why destroy the canon for a long form tv show? If that’s what they decide, I’m out.

why prequel.. it waters out the franchise.. sequel would be better for earlier entries to stay as they are. Prequel retcons.. and that more often than not makes it less good! And also don`t piss fans off..
Why are disney so obsessed with retelling every IP they buy.
Because they cant create anything on their own. Even their golden age movies were retellings of well known stories.
Likely time frames, loss of rights to produce movies based on the properties they have under contract, rights returning to creators, that sort of thing...

The only grain of hope I have is that prey was ok, far from amazing but nowhere near bad.
& they didn’t change many of the fundamentals which meant it still felt like a predator film most of the time.
Romulus ‘might’ be ok as its film format but we’ve seen what happens when Disney try & make a series out of a tiny detail, they Swiss cheese it with plot holes & could accept they’re wrong but often just keep digging the hole & blame the fans.
Just buy it & continue, what could be simpler? 🤷🏼♂️🫣😂

The setting is already crap imo, on earth prior to the events of the first alien movie. I have no doubt it will mess up the existing lore, instead of making a sequel that avoids more lore issues.
If a prequel must be made it should set in the colony of alien 2. Leading up to events in alien 2 would have been much better i think.
But i hope we all get blown away by how amazing it turns out to be.

The Feeling of this show, could be a forray into the Future! I Do NOT walk a "Walking Dead", that goes on Forever.. This is a show that has an Absolute END! The alking Dead just killed after Neagan, and it just On and on! = For Nothing! = What a Waste of time, excet thing these Awesome actors just get Killed off! Actually I NEVER made it to the end, as I was just Sick of it! I May soon change this.. But right now TWD Has been a HIGE Waste of time for me.. But Very Interesting Non-Theless!
The premise does not sound promising. I was imagining a post-apocalyptic last days of earth story line. But I'll watch and see. Just keep the yautja out of it. The predators are not canon and they never should be.
Why even send the crew of the Nostromo to LV426 in the first place if the xenomorph species had already been discovered decades earlier according to this new TV series. It just invalidates the lore already established like the god awful Scott prequels. The whole alien lore and timeline is an absolute mess at this point. Dumb Hollywood brain farts strike again.
