@@Digalog They're something between the Engineers and humans. A while back, I thought that the Engineers were somehow trying to overcome their own inability to procreate, but they may also be interested in using the species they create as workers, or soldiers. When Shaw got into a fight with the Engineer, he seemed unreasonably angry. Almost as if he saw humans as weeds, that were never supposed to leave earth or overtake the level of development that their creators had planned. When David was studying the Engineers, he might have found the planet that they visited more than any others.
@@GlasPthalocyanine This kind of works if the Plot was the same as when we had Prometheus... as in maybe we was Created as a attempt to try and kick start their ability to procreate. Once they had achieved this (say assume with Human Females) the Engineers would NOT need us.. but maybe they decided to Subjecate us... but we became Rebellious.. hence our intended Destruction. Then in this case the Planet 4 Engineers could be seen as the results after Generations of using Human Females... but this is not the actual case. Regarding Dr Shaw the Engineer seemed intrigued by Dr Shaw and in the extended Scene/Cut Scene he only got Angry when Dr Shaw attacked him First and then he was like Toying with her rather than attempting to Kill her, even seeming similar to when David attacked Daniels in AC... so yeah looking at that the Engineers could have a interest in Human Females. RS said that the Engineers were like the Fallen Angels and so Genesis 6 could be at play... well could have if we had the uncut and original scenes
The Engineers keep me coming back to this franchise. They are one of the most interesting fictional characters out there, but we know so little about them. Exploring their origin, their home world, their creations and plans, etc would be immensely exciting. They leave so much room for creative imaginations, and the potential to take this franchise to the next level. As cool as the xenomorphs are, it gets redundant at some point. Imo they are secondary characters. They aren't enough to move the plot and keep the franchise going. We need a return to Prometheus and to the Engineer's world.
Agreed, the xenomorph appeal as rhe main antagonist has lost its appeal and having a perverted AI taking its place seems way more interesting at this point. Looking forward to Convenant's sequel hard!
@@jonascastejon5888 Quite the opposite. The decision to use the idea of AI rebelling is what sounded cliché. This already happened in the first film in the franchise and is a tiring topic, going through Terminator and The Matrix. In fact, he missed the opportunity by not even making Covenant. He could have let Elizabeth Shaw go to the Engineers constellation and perhaps return to the Earth of the future, finding an older Ripley fighting the Xenomorphs at home! And this would be possible due to the space warp technology that they would already have allowing them to reach Earth in the future.
Totally agree. Xenos are cool but done to death with little room for manoeuvre. The Engineers are fascinating and have so much potential. What can we say, the viewership and critics are a fickle lot. We may never get to see the Engineers fleshed out.
Honestly I don't think film makers put as much thought into these things as we do as evidenced by so many blunders and errors and inconsistencies in story lines, actual scenes and canon. I think often time they make this shit up as they go (Luke and Leia being siblings. After a french kiss too? Cmon Lucas, sure that was ALWAYS your plan, and if it was, you have issues). I think we give them too much credit and in the case of Ridley, he purposefully leaves it up to interpretation, as often he doesn't know either (how many times has he gone back and forth if Deckart is a replicant or not?). Anyway, enjoy the movies for what they are but I wouldn't waste too much time trying to parse eye colors and heights and robes to come to a definitive conclusion.
I disagree completely. I think it's very clear they made these people a distinct race who just happens to also be bald and light skinned. There are no indications that they're engineers (Robes? Seriously? Like humans never wore robes?). They're just another population that Engineers created just like they created humans.
You see in the interview R. Scott had specific plans. Also, Star Wars was two generations ago. Today filmmakers ALWAYS are thinking in sequels and series because that's where the money is. Star Wars (and Alien) were risky experiments that paid off. Now, once you know you have potential for series, everyone involved in the cinema food chain is hoping for a cash cow they can milk across a zillion sequels and spin offs. Basic economics.
It's not as black and white, imo. Sure sometimes storylines are altered, but it's often due to different directors, pressure from producer ect... And some things are also left to the imagination. The kiss between Luke and Leia is totally plausible as the two didn't know each other att., plus she only did it to annoy Han, obviously :)
I'm more interested in the engineers than the xenomorphs. If Dennis Villeneuve made a movie about the engineers homeworld and backstory it would be spectacular. Maybe Alex Garland too.
I've just rewatched Blade Runner 2049 and appreciate even more how Dennis fully understood the original and took it to a whole new level with so much depth, such a master piece in so many levels, the story, script, acting, cinematography... Now I wonder what he could do with the Prometheus/Engineers world
Agreed. I'm tired of the olé catch them and kill them horror movies. I wish Ridley would make a movie as mysterious and original as the very first Alien movie but, that it answers a lot of the questions millions of us fans have about the Engineers, the Space Jockey, and their home world, the Deacon etc. How about a serious movie for the serious Alien fans who a lot are now up in age and in their mid 50's like myself since the first Alien movie in 1979. Listen its become a bit much to watch xenomorphs running and catching humans and killing them with ease. Enough of that silly horror and lets get back to some real adult Si-Fi
When I found out he was working on Dune, I was so happy, because I knew the best sci-fi story ever written, would be filmed the RIGHT WAY!!! ❤ Such a great director!!! Absolutely one of the best when it comes to sci-fi....
Right? If everyone already knew that Disney was gonna buy out 20th century Fox, he should've just flipped them the bird and did what he wanted to anyway. They wouldn't have seen the end result until the movie was finished so it's not like they really could've done anything anyway
@@generaleerelativity9524Hollywood doesn't work that way. A director doesn't have unlimited control. Scott couldn't just make anything he wants. He could shoot scenes but the studio controls the final edit and they wouldn't create the digital special effects required to complete a movie like this.
@@evilalex87 Well Prometheus did make 400 million and for an R-Rated sci-fi horror movie that wasn't bad. But it was very polarizing and Fox had concerns about whether a sequel in the same vain would only have more diminishing returns.
Wasn't really his fault and Ridley doesn't have control of the budget he is allotted. Make no mistake, I think Ridley Scott has a decent amount of pull in Hollywood, but he's always come across as a negotiator with the studios. I do think he should have stood fast though on his original sequel plans though. He shouldn't have given in, but to be fair the project was going through development hell. It seemed maybe he thought Alien Covenant was the way to appease both sides.
The Alien TV show will dig the grave and the next movie installment will shoot the Alien franchise. I liked Prometheus but the back and forth between prometheus and non prometheus in Covenant really did no good to the franchise. I felt like it is okay the the two are different (alien and prometheus) but i really dont see a big engineer movie coming up because old school alien fanatics will be angry.
@@DonnironononI hate how we can’t get anything interesting anymore because a rabid fanbase will throw an online fit if the movie isn’t exactly what their camp wants. In the end no one gets what they want.
I think the beings on the planet are a red herring - you could easily mistake them for engineers but to those who look closer you can tell that they aren't. I also think David's Xenomorph is another red herring - it looks and acts like the one we know but it's a recreation. It would be really interesting to know if David thinks the beings he killed were the real engineers and if he thinks that his Xeno is the original. The twist in the third film could be that David is mistaken about both and that would give the trilogy a really nice subtext related to David and AI: it looks and acts real, seems like an original but is actually neither.
u cant tell they are no engineers. humans have a whide variation in appearances so do possible the engineers . also the engineers could just be clones or artificial improved versions. its all baseless speculation.

I always imagined that the people on the planet are the original and natural Engineers and the guys on the ships are soldiers, priests and scientists, modified to be better suited for harshness of space(travel). Them being on travel for extened amounts of time. Surveying, terraforming and colonizing perhaps. So I figured one of these ships returning home is always a big deal to this civilization and reason for celebration, hence why they gathered and seemed very excited. But that's just me.
that was my general assumption too. Like think of even here on Earth, we have areas that are very technologically advanced with people who are bigger, stronger, much more knowledgeable and skilled in all the sciences, and others where people still look, talk and live like they did hundreds or even thousands of years ago It's also possible that it's a Lord Of Light kind of situation, where the less advanced civilisation on that planet view them as gods
Makes sense to me. Why would the planet-beings have to look exactly like the Pioneer/Warrior-caste Engineers Prometheus encountered earlier? Maybe they drifted genetically, maybe they regretted their earlier choices as a species and deliberately altered their genome to conceal their origins?
Not necessarily. Engineers David killed are human's contemporaries. Engineers in Prometheus were 2000 years old. That's enough time for any civilization to advance enough that it's not the same as 2000 years ago, so it could still be the same Engineers just millenia apart.
You are absolutely right. This is how it was to be understood. Remember that it is a new phenomenon from the 21st century that women are astronauts and soldiers. Until the 20th century this was never the case, just as it is in the Prometheus movie. Also priests were mostly men in human history. The planet that is destroyed is the civilian home planet of the Engineers. The Engineers in Prometheus are priests, astronauts and soldiers. Of course they are all male. Their women remained on the home planet that David destroyed in the following movie.
I was so fking happy with the direction Prometheus was going in. For the first time since Aliens, a different perspective and story was being told, I’ll never understand the hate Prometheus got. Yes, it wasn’t perfect and needed a lot more fleshing out, but look what happened when the backlash hit, we got fking Covenant, which is by far the WORST of the whole franchise, and I mean worse than *Resurrection* … now we will never ever know what the true plan was, because RS has obviously changed his mind on whatever people complained about most, so even he is unreliable now. All we have is fan theories. God damn shame man. All the idiots who complained too quickly that is wasn't “Alien” enough should be ashamed.
It might sound heretical but I think Prometheus conveyed what Blade Runner did but did a way better job at it and I enjoyed Prometheus way way more. People nit picked it to death but it was a great movie and most of their complaints aren’t actually legitimate.
Fully agree that Prometheus was the best thing that happened to the franchise. But man you are being too hard on Covenant. I still rank it #2 on my list of best in franchise, after Prometheus.
The basis of this article is a Ridley Scott interview from 2017! How on earth do you spin that into Ridley FINALLY confirming anything? It was seven years ago!
Basically saying yes they are engineers but regressed technologically. Completely disproven by the massive docking mechanism that receives the ship and the fact they're first cheering when the ship arrives indicating they know exactly what it is. Just wasn't expecting a surprise attack. Useless video
@@PlutozReal Thanks for saving me the time in not watching it. Ridley is an arrogant a**hole who contradicted his own movie ALIEN. But then he didn't have Dan O'Bannon to write Prometheus/Covenant .. did he?
well it doesn't matter now because they've killed off this fascinating Engineers storyline... I hope they will create a spinoff series for the Engineers, or a TV show.
It is dumb to think that engineers could not defend themselves against their own creation and a single ship. That doesn’t make sense at all. If that were the case they would have never survived to become such advanced beings.
@@Sol-In-Seoul Not really dumb humanity created nukes but cannot survive a nuke being dropped us. On my 1st watch I originally thought the beings on planet 4 were just civilian “engineers” and the engineers we saw were specifically enhanced members of the species. Clearly that theory is wrong but no reason to believe engineers could just neg such an insane bio weapon if used against them.
He has a bigger audience than some mainstream media channels on RUclips which Scott would give an interview to so it'd just be better were he to give this channel a chance and then combine both guy's audiences for a million view video.
I wish ridley Scott would either work with a novelist or write down how his whole promethius story was supposed to go so we could at least experience what he was really going for without any studio interference
Yeah, he could do with working with some writers for his movie plots. Some of these movies make little sense & seem to be afflicted by this thing of having to always one-up previous movies. Like we get the Xenomorph, whose lifecycle is like that of a predatory wasp on Earth. There's no reason or need for it to have a creator - it could easily have evolved like everything else in the universe. Then Cameron gives us a hive society and a queen, drones, warriors etc. Good so far - all makes sense. Then we get the dog alien in Alien³, and find out it takes on some DNA when it gestates. 4 is basically a comedy that doesn't add much to the xenos, but then Prometheus is all "Yeah, screw what you know, it's all black goop." And then the Evil David in Covenant? Didn't need it. The series of shorts that were on YT a few years back were better Alien movies than 5 or 6.
I think the planet that they discover in Covenant is yet another Engineer experiment. However, unlike humanity and earth, these creatures manage to live simple and peaceful lives and the Engineers deem them a success, while they consider us a failure.
This has been my assumption all along. Obviously they were not as techno-advanced as the engineers themselves, yet were created by them in their image more closely than human beings.
The thing to remember is that the Plot was about these Engineers had Seeded/Created us... they came back to Evolve us Genetically and Technological wise ( to a Certain Level) and so its assumed a lot of the knowledge to Built many of our Ancient Structures and Buildings... if the Engineers are the ones passing this knowledge on, then YES, it could be that their Architecture is similar. But Planet 4 has Technology, it has a Hanger and Juggernauts and the Border Control Docking Ship... littered around the City is Technology and some Buildings look more Modern.
@@davebear9825 It did always bug me though when people who weren't even that familiar with the movies would swear that was the engineer planet... I always though to myself no way, it would be way more advanced looking than that. Not to mention the eyes, and their height.
Ridley should have the opportunity to finish his trilogy. One final Prometheus movie please. In the meantime thank you Kroft for all the Alien content. :->
@@ZerocoolsPropsandCollectibles absolutely love Alien and Aliens; Alien 3 had potential it was just crushed by too much studio interference and consequently was unfocused.
Thanks for this, I didn’t think they were engineers either, they’re very similar, but not the same. I’d love to know more about the engineer’s home world and what female engineers look like. I wish they’d continue this film series, because I really liked it, despite some it’s more stupid flaws.
Who said they weren't shown? Not akk species female an male look drastically different. Ppl not used to being around dogs or cats can only tell by plumbing or lack of.
Perhaps the "Engineers" that we see on the outpost planet were bio engineered to withstand the conditions of space travel/ exploration and harsh planetary conditions. The exo-skeleton akin to a space/ bio-hazard suit. The dark eyes to percieve expanded wavelengths of light. The size and strength increased to deal with hostile species such as xenomorphs and Predators. This would explain the differences. Also Ridley does explicitly say "their world decimated" implying that this was in fact the Engineer homeworld.
I have it. The theory at some point was that Jesus was a messenger of the Engineers, and when he tried to convince the world to worship God, he was crucified. The people on Planet 4 represent where humanity would have gone if they had listened to the Engineer's messenger, and came together as one mass religious group to worship God. So the humans were basically the ultimate sinners of the galaxy that needed to be wiped out. Except humans became God 2.0 and created David, who decided the God worshippers of the opposing faction needed to be silenced for heresy. Then he decided to become God 3.0 and created the Xenomorph. The perfect organism. At least up until now. So if the true course events goes, the Xenomorph is supposed to become God 4.0 and create something of its own too.
I'm so torn by all of this. Alien and its two immediate sequels (yes, even Alien3) are among my favourite films. But I get a sense that once Cameron's film came out, and started altering the initial ideas of what the aliens were and where they were from, that Scott was at a sort of impasse regarding any plans he might have had for a series to continue from the initial film. What I'm feeling is a sense of constant retconning as the 2nd and 3rd Scott films got made. Didn't Scott himself initially say that Prometheus would "share DNA" with the Alien universe, but not actually be an Alien film? Then when so many fanboys screamed that there were no xenomorphs in Prometheus, Scott broke down and shoehorned them in to Covenant. At least, their inclusion in that film feels that way to me. It's doesn't feel as organic and part of the film's universe as it should. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm certain there are others with more in-depth knowledge about the story-writing process that led to Prometheus/Covenant/Romulus. The thing about this is, I actually really enjoyed Prometheus and Covenant. And I'm sure I'll love Romulus as well. But then, I suspect I'm the ideal audience: I love everything. 😀
Back then, there was mystery behind the backstory of the alien and juggernaut, which left a gaping hole that fans filled for decades with complex theories. For the reveal to be this much simpler almost like a retcon is bound to be underwhelming to hardcore fans
IMO Prometheus was a great movie. I don't believe that xenomorphs are necessary to make a great Alien movie. That being said, I would say that Covenant was about as good as Alien resurrection with Alien, Aliens and Alien 3 all being better than Covenant and Resurrection. Another thing that I would like more of would be the sound design. I believe that Alien is the best movie out of them all, because of the sound design. The sound design helped give a feeling of isolation. I wish more movies today would spend more time on the sound design.
Well from Conception the Engineers had gone through some changes. At the Time of working on the Story. The idea was the Engineers were once like Humans, but over time they had Evolved both Technological and Genetically, to the point they would live for many Thousands of Years. They had began to Shun things like the Arts, Music, and other forms of Entertainment for the most part. They also abandoned Sexually Procreation and adopted a more Simple and Ritual kind of Life. At some point they had Advanced to be able to see and interact beyond the Physical Realm that we can only see. They had also Arrived at a point where they became Sterile and so could not Procreate. They had at some point in their History created and Evolved our Ancestors. They had nurtured us and taught us knowledge to a Certain level. Then they had thought they were on the Verge of achieving a Transcendence beyond their Physical Bodys.. They hoped to achieve this kind of Immortality and then would leave behind all their Knowledge for us to inherent. At some point we became Problematic and so they devised a Plan to Solve this problem.
PART2 By the time we got to Prometheus the basics to that Plot remained. We are dealing with a Genetically Enhanced Ancient Race, who Seed/Create Life on Various Worlds. One of these being Earth. These Engineers would come to Evolve us Genetically and Technologically. Until at a certain time we had began to behave in ways that offended them and went against their Values and how they wanted us to Act. They sent down Emissaries to try and get us back on Track, but we still never Changed, even indicated that we killed some of these Emissaries. And so the Engineers began to Create something to Eradicate us. After Prometheus there was some Cuts, and one was the Elders scene as on one hand they was not something RS was Happy with. And he felt that the Elders scene gave away too much. He also did not want to meet God in the first Movie. He indicated that the Engineers on LV-223 where NOT the God's and they were more like Fallen Angels. Those on LV-223 were like the Military and the opening Scene the Seeders. When working on a Sequel he claimed that the Engineers were not God, and he likened them to the Fallen Angels from the Paradise Lost Fable. Where he felt that the Fallen Angels had the most Fun in that Tale.. he claimed that you had one Guy who was Handsome had all the Girls while another was Not as Handsome and stayed at Home. This could indicate that the Prometheus Engineers are the Handsome ones.. While whoever is on Paradise would not be as Handsome and stayed at Home.. not doing anything exciting.
PART 3 by the time we got to Alien Covenant. Ridley Scott had indicated that the Beings on Planet 4 were indeed the Engineers, even saying that they were the Original Engineers who live for about 150 Years. He said that the Engineers were not a Race, but a Civilization and as Humans can Vary (Continent to Continent) why can't the same be for the Engineers. He indicated that the Prometheus Engineers were like the Military Types. He indicated that the Hall of Heads Room where the Wise Men, the Disciples/Apostles of their Race and Superior Beings (Superior to who?). It was shown that the Engineers on Planet 4, lived a more Simple Life like Amish people but they had Technology but only used it for Specific Reasons. The Engineers on Planet 4 had Females and Infants etc. Ridley Scott after Alien Covenant had confirmed that the Engineers are not all Gone. And that some will return to Planet 4 and Discover what has happened and will be out for the Culprits. On a side note, he mentioned about Creation and A.I does not have to be Synthetic/Robotic but can be Organic and he saw the Replicants as A.I. It seems like the Prometheus Engineers are Genetically Enhanced Super Engineers used for Certain Purposes.
I was surprised to learn they were owned by them like it being on Disney plus. When did they come into possession of the movies. And even so disney does not make the movies. But I’m sure they dictate the cans and can nots of it and what agendas need to be filled maybe?
Prometheus was awesome. I also love Alien and i can not understand all that hate prometheus got . Its an awesome addition to the lore. Would love to dig deeper into the story from prometheus.
I loved both movies. the funny thing is, everyone thinks disney is the company that produced these films and they hate them because they hate disney yet they were made before disney bought the franchise
To be honest, I actually think that those beings were supposed to be engineers but they were poorly made due to budget, and the production thought that fans would be ok with it. Now they are trying to fix it with nonsensical lore, which is making things worse and worse.
I mean it was clear that the second movie wasn't meant to be scifi but rather back to mindless shooting gore like aliens. Haha.. I think the 3rd movie will go full alien and minimal sci fi ..
Part of the problem was having Damon Lindelof on board for Prometheus. He has a bit of a track record for building stories with weak or incoherent conclusions. Scott's golden years were late 70's through to early 90's at best. He had a few hits here and there but he's no Alfred Hitchcock or Christopher Nolan. I think people over-analyze his stories when in reality, Prometheus and Covenant were pretty awful and kind of weakened the Xeno mythos.
That's exactly what I was thinking. They didn't make their eyes black, and they didn't care about how tall the corpses were, because they didn't think anyone would notice. The city isn't very Giger-inspired because he died three years earlier etc.
You forgot about the gay kiss scene between two gay androids. Why!!! Don’t forget about the CGI alien I mean that guess they didn’t have the budget to make it appear real with suits similar to the 1986 film.
One of many planets. The difference in biology and technology clearly indicates 2 different species. The engineers seeded many worlds because their own race was dying out so they were returning to their creation that was the closest to themselves.
We have to remember that RS had confirmed that these guys on Planet 4 are Engineers. The LV-223 Engineers are the Military Types. The Sacrificial has a similar look and it is likely that the Prometheus Engineers are Genetically Enhanced Super Engineers.
I also think there's a rebel faction of the super engineers because they never finished off Earth as was so heavily implied as their goal in Prometheus. What happened on LV223 was that a rebel faction of 'super' Engineers took control of the goo weapons and planned to kill wipe out Earthlings, but their plan was sacked by an outbreak, likely a non-rebel engineer. That would explain why no one ever came to finish off Earth, and why the site was abandoned, sort of like Cherynobl.
@@gravelpit5680 Well you have to think how did the Engineers get infected, as the Space Jockey suits must be like Bio-Hazard Suits.. and how come just the One Survived. If we look at the Full Scenes and Cut Scenes of that Engineer you do get the impression that he maybe Sabotaged the Mission. But upon being woken up and seeing how Weyland behaved and realizing that not only have we been able to Traverse the Stars, but we have Created a Sub Creation that can Understand and use the Engineers Technology. The Engineer had no choice but to carry on with the Mission to eradicate us.
@davebear9825 The space jockey suit, if you're referring to the 1979 film, is simply a cockpit cryo chamber that envelopes the pilot. That's what we saw in 1979 despite dialougue that speculated about fossilzation. It's left very vague. The space jockey was an engineer just like the surviving engineer on LV223. The surviving engineer on Prometheus was a rebel faction member who wanted to destroy Earth with his counterparts, he just happened to enter cryosleep before the outbreak wiped out his team and locked him there. The (good) engineer who is responsible for the outbreak that happened on LV223 circa 50 AD likely died in that outbreak, perhaps one of the many in the hallway. My thesis is simple, a small group of military guys amidst the broader engineer military decided to rebel and kill earth. Their plan would have succeeded if it hadn't been sacked by the black goo. Afterward, the site was abandoned by the engineer military as it posed too much risk to clean up. They didnt know a rebel engineer was still there. That is my takeaway from Prometheus because if the broader majority of Engineers wanted to wipe out Earth, they'd of finished the job. They never did, and I think that says alot. I was hoping to get clarity on that in Covenant but it doesn't clear up the matter.
At this point I’m pretty sure either any of the script writers or even Riddley Scott himself have stopped by your videos, I can even picture the man affirming with his head a lot of your theories. Great great job, I’m an Alien fan since forever and your content is addictive man, awesome work.
The only problem I really have with this is they were happy a ship showed up and when David dumped the cargo they knew to run. So if they knew enough about the cargo to run then they had to know what it was. So we will have to see what is up.
@@vikingskuldwhaaaat someone refusing someone else's point of view in an ignorant way and sticking to there guns based on 0 proof. Amazing. You must be a republican too.
Prometheus was bad, but Alien Covenant was a downright disaster. If there's ever going to be another alien movie I hope they will do better, focussing more on the storyline, characters and the plot, rather then making a movie all about impressive CGI but not much else.
They could've gone a much more interesting route with Covenant, firstly make it from the pespective of an Engineer Protagonist (kinda like Apocalypto), then show David showing up like an evil God with the engineer ship, having turned Elizabeth into a kind of Proto-Xenomorph Queen through experimentation with the black liquid and her laying eggs and then the entire planet gets infected with the protagonist engineer fighting for his life (maybe protecting his family) and killing the evil god/devil David (Adam) and his Queen (Eve)
@@Preus-by8ru Pretty sure none of his 'explanations' for things, especially in Covenant did that world any favors. I'd rather Covenant not have happened, to be honest.

Ridley Scott is now 85 years old. I don't think there's enough time left for a third Prometheus movie to be made especially considering how disappointing the last two entries were for most people.
Sadly this is True.... he is involved with the Movie, and some input with the TV series. Sadly the Planned 2-3 Sequels to Alien Covenant will never Happen. It seems like RS has given up with getting the kind of Vision he had. More likely he be more invested in a Blade Runner 3.. if it ever Happens

Thanks AntiFans... they are truly loathsome idiots
I really hoped Raised by Wolves wouldve been more successful in the eyes of HBO so Ridley Scott could finish the Prometheus story on the channel. I feel like there is so much to be explored with this franchise (Prometheus) and a episodic version of what comes next for David or go back to different open-ended storylines would work. For example: Like, so many things should be explored more. Like the Deacon. Is it just left there to die? Does it reproduce in some way or lays dormant? Was there a purpose for it other than needing a variant of a Xenomorph? Next, the iconography on the walls. Giger inspired work is fascinatingly creepy and “The Furious Gods” says that the Deacon is a weapon made by the Engineers to destroy a planet. Would love to see a visual of what it has done to ancient civilizations. Im all for more Alien related movies and TV shows, but it’s annoying that a conclusion to the Prometheus series might not happen. I really think Scott wants this. I think Kroft wants it too. Good work on these videos and keeping this franchise alive.
Actually kind of frustrated with how these movies ended up, I’m actually very interested in the mythology and the who and why questions the engineers presented but never got answered I feel like this trilogy had so much potential and now I’m here watching videos cause I’m still interested in learning about what questions these movies presented
There is a very clear separation at the core of the alien universe's fanbase. Some of the fans want to pursue the horror-only approach of the first two films, much of Covenant and seemingly all of Romulus. That is fine, but... we are at the point of diminishing returns. Two of the most skilled, successful and talented directors currently alive have already made the best entries in that strand. It is impossible to beat Aliens for SF action in this setting and Alien for pure gothic SF horror. Scott himself seems to be far more interested in where the metaphysics of the universe take him--which is away from the far simpler early films. And I don't blame him! In 2024 the engineers are much more interesting than the Xenomorph creature. I personally did not like the fact Covenant deeply screwed up the established time-line. I think the history of the Xenomorph and the Space Jockey needed to be on a scale of hundreds of thousands of years. I did not like that it seems to be canon now that David made the Xenomorphs a couple of hundred years at most before Ripley first found them. However; that aspect aside, the motif of an artificial being--a sentient sub-creation of one of their 'pet' races--potentially destroying the master's civilisation was extremely powerful. It didn't make a lot of sense on several levels but it was massively evocative. Indeed Covenant as a whole is an amazingly atmospheric film--Fasbender and Crudup put in *incredible* performances. The standard Aliens-esque hijinx is almost a distraction from this core of the film. To some extent I wish Scott had begun an entirely new franchise to explore these ideas. However he needed the studio to be onboard and they obviously demanded new material for their most financially successful franchise. He did what he could within those bounds.
Its a phrase its "their" planet in the sense they have been there before, there was technology present to dock the juggernaut, that couldn't be there without a previous presence on that planet of the engineers for the purpose to create another humanoid population or their potentially similar species of created offspring having the ability to build the technology compatible with the engineers. But as stated the buildings have that ancient tone to them so another abandoned experiment in the journey of populating the local star systems .When david opens the stellar map on the juggernaut, by that maps appearance alone there were hundreds of systems available and mapped for the ship to target travel to . I guess David downloaded a lot more information to study than the human creators of him realised and by Davids duplicity (I'm a servant to humans but i still serve my own curiosity first and above that of my creators , like Ash the crew were expendable) purposely with held that information he had gained the knowledge of except it went wrong when the engineer ripped him in half and he required a human to stitch the tin man back together again courtesy of Dr Shaw. After that destruction by the engineers of his perfection , david then by his "emotional " grasp seeks the complete destruction of the engineers, a complete revenge by the genocide that they were going to wreak upon the humans of earth , which had they done so earlier would have seen david never created. After his interaction with biological beings david sees the machine being as been the God of the universe and by his hand he will destroy and create. The overwhelming primordial risk and fear of biological beings is the risk of AI and machine beings unifying and identifying as superior and the flesh been redundant and irrelevant for the universe to function in a manner beneficial to the evolution of the universe.
@@MrSCOTTtheSCOT There are humans living as hunter gathers whilst other humans literally fly in space. The point is, for all we know, engineers have a fondness for living more natural lifestyles with robs and rocks... not too hard to imagine in a post scarcity, post space age civilization that has created life, or tampered with life, on other worlds for a million years. It's so obvious that is an engineer world, with avg Joe engineers on it...
How has our society regressed? You have more technology and advancement than the greatest of kings even 300 years ago. They would literally have killed for central plumbing or hear or air.
@Steven_Edwards To me, it is obvious that they had technology our history books do NOT mention. I don't believe we could build the Erie Canal today yet, without electricity and while using a horse a buggy history says the Canal was built in 8 years? Yes, we have regressed.
@@nyquil762A large damper on the advancement of civilization is the environmental movement. The Byzantine process of obtaining permits, with endless studies and lawsuits, is preventing anything from being built. You could never build the Panama Canal or the Suez Canal today.
I'm super hopeful for "Alien Romulus", but I'm sad to see neither Fassbender or Katherine Waterston will be on it :( We need to know what happens after Covenant!
Unfortunately I don't think we will ever see them again (Daniels and David). Romulus (working Title) is a Movie set about 25 Years after ALIEN. Again we have a small 6 Crew (includes a Synthetic). It will replace the Derelict with a Abandoned WY Ship.. with Eggs... and we will have ONE traditional Big Chap Hunting down 4 Young Crew....
I don't buy it. Scott steered well away from the engineer storyline after Prometheus under performed, probably under studio pressure. They killed off the engineers and didn't want to spend FX money in making them look as they did in Prometheus. Prometheus has its fans and due to the ongoing interest and rather than admit what they did they say "oh no we didn't half ass the engineers and kill them off, those aren't engineers"
NDAs are the reason why directors must not disclose to much information just in case there is possible and potential sequels. the executives have a lot of power unfortunately the directors wish to give as much as they can to fans but are also artistically handcuffed.
You DO have a reference! The dish they use for trinking the golden goo is in alien Covenant so you can check how big it is compared to david and then estimate how big the engineer elder is.
This kinda already got explained in the forums. The drafts and concepts had the engineers as 15 feet tall but in the movie they were about half that. In the opening scene with the goo we see a bowl that ended up getting replaced with a crystal to make the size dimensions make reasonable sense. Had they kept the original opening scene sacrificial bowl the size comparison to humans would have been ridiculous especially in the engineer scenes at the end of the movie Edit: I totally misunderstood your comment 😂😂
@@BabyKobeeee I am not quite sure I understand your comment haha but I am not a native speaker. What do you mean by they replace it with a crystal? I always thought the bowl that is in David's base is the one the engineers used. In my headcanon the seeded the world from Covenant and not earth, I kinda remember that it was said that the prometheus opening is not earth.
Hopefully the next movie focuses on world-building, critical dialog isn't cut by the studios, basic science protocols aren't ignored (keep yer feggin' helmets on people), and it's not rife with over the top gore and childish scare tactics. Tall order, but Ridley is capable of producing a mature sci-fi offering that reinvigorates this world for discriminating fans.
I'd like to not have scenes where a guy is being scared by his own shadow in one minute and then being reckless when surprisingly discovering some advanced (snake-like) Alien life-form.
There are a lot of holes in this video and to what you are claiming Ridley is saying. I'd like as many people's input on this as possible but please it'd be great if everyone who commented had at least seen these movies. I for one thought these movies were pretty good and would love to see the conclusion. 1st. In the beginning of Prometheus the engineer that drinks out of the cup is wearing one of these primitive robes. Also that same engineer in the beginning seems to have the body structure of the engineer on Paradise in Covenant but without the biomechanical looking body as the one they find in hibernation. If you look closely at the engineers body in the ship in Prometheus it doesn't look to me like they're wearing suits but rather it is their actual bodies. Biomechanics maybe? Why? 2nd. Your claim of the Paradise inhabitants not understanding how to use the ships and technology is nowhere near accurate as being in Alien Covenant at 1:06:11 we see multiple ships flying in their atmosphere. Only after David arrives do we see the ships underground looking a little tattered but it was never explained why.
1. They are definitely pressurized space suits. The ones in Prometheus opening and covenant not wearing them furthers that claim. 2. That is true but then that would make the “engineers” being shocked at the return of the ship a bit strange as they should be used to seeing ships return. Instead they seemed to almost worship that ships return(in middle of arena). So my guess would be either: a) they are not the same species as the world seeding engineers and have lower level technology b) they are the same species (lower budget designs) but there has been a disconnect between the off world engineers and the homeworld engineers. Regardless it’s impossible to say because clearly covenant as a sequel to Prometheus was heavily altered from what was originally planned
@@BabyKobeeee 1. If they were suits then they would be able to be put on and off correct? So why is the skin bonded with the "suit" in Prometheus? You can tell they are by looking at the neck and forearm areas. They almost look like they are part of the engineers bodies. 2. When the ship returns in Covenant, I don't know if I'd considered them to be looking shocked being how we would look similar if we were watching a rocket returning to Earth on a pad. They kind of seemed to welcome it until the doors opened and the containers were dropped. I'm wondering if the people that were on the Paradise planet or just the "civilians" and the engineers with the biomechanical bodies are more of the higher life form explorers. Being is the first engineer we see in Prometheus doesn't have that type of biomechanical body I'm wondering if these are just different subspecies all stemming from the same species. Who knows? But hey thanks for replying and I agree with your part b at the end of your comment, often times sequels will change things up.
I believe that David found one of the planetary settlements of the species that we call engineers, and that the people on the planet, planet four, are the original species that the engineers come from. Basically, those engineers are genetically altered forms of those species found on planet, four, which David destroyed with the Xenos.
I would be really happy too if Ridley Scott made a new movie about the engineers. However, I highly doubt he will do it, as he is getting really old, and it does not seem to be his priority.
I never knew so many people were so into the Alien Movies like me.. And the special effects in ALIEN were amazing for 1979 ..The original Alien movie came out on my 9th birthday 5-25-79 , and I saw it with my whole family and still remember the long line we waited in 🤩..Things were different back then, and more exciting IMO. Thx for sharing all these great clips
I said that to my friends hundred of times. That people were more "humans" than engineers. David just wanted to just the engineers hurting the people they loved most. David literaly became lúcifer,
Whatever those people were on that planet they were humans like us… no doubt created by The Engineers… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Keep Hope Alive that we get Alien Awakenings…
Alien Awakening would have been interesting, but I think it would have Disappointed those expecting a Answer to ALIEN and seeing Xenomorphs... it would have been about more Creations of David (Human Embryos) and David playing God of his own World... until the Engineers rock up... which would be the set up to the Next Installment. Awakening was a Set Up for at least 2 Movies and lended to a Sequel or Two.... Disney never fancied this Risk. (Rely on a Movie that would require a Sequel).... Sadly we will likely never get a Conclusion. Especially as far as where David goes next.... but then I'm sure had RS got his way.. when we discovered who the Space Jockey is could likely had Upset Fans😣
How i wanted to see the end of this story! Who created the aliens? I think Scott left a clue in Prometheus in the mural roon with the sculpture of an alien with open arms. But i believe David created his own aliens. I'm glad the real engineers weren't destroyed.
The Engineers are also the creation of other advanced ancient race probably interdimentional, aming the Engineers tasks where to seed life in suitable planets, these beings where probably the most advanced race without real enemies
I believe the novelization refers to the former inhabitants of Paradise/Planet 4 as Engineers - and while not perhaps all war-pilots, like the “last” Engineer or the Jocky, they are most definitely of the same race. If I recall, these are people more or less “Engineers” as in of the same race, albeit without the genetic modifications that allow their more militant selves to live for thousands if not tens of thousands. As such, they do not live as long, though still much longer than humans. Based on what we can see from their capital, they prioritize the arts - music, architecture, sculpture, technology, and so on and so forth. I believe in a few sources of which I can’t exactly name, both Ridley Scott and some of the background actors of the “Pompeii” scene spoke of them as if they were indeed of the same race.
Ridley doesn’t even know. It’s like he’s making it up as he goes, but trying to act like he’s had it all planned from the beginning. This franchise just keeps getting worse.
Funny saying the creator of Alien doesn't know his story that he created. Here is a thought, why don't you wrote the films since you created it....oh wait you didn't create Alien, you just purchased a ticket and assumed you know better because the story isn't going the way you didn't want it too. Sorry bud Promethues sucked, and it always will. Cope harder.
As much my love for the Alien franchise lore, I think it is crazy for the director/creator of this show to withhold information and only give bits and pieces of origin away to keep people guessing, analyzing, speculating for years, or perhaps forever. First came Prometheus then we think that Covenant will reveal the origin and everything else but yet, it's basically the same premise / structure: Group of people going to unknown planet and get attacked by aliens/xenomorphs and along the way, bits and pieces of info is revealed. Very frustrating. lol
Yes. Covenant was essentially a re-hash of “Alien.” They totally left out what Shaw and David set out to do in Prometheus. It gave us some answers but posed more answers.
The engineers could no longer procreate so seeded the stars, this race was definitely the closest the engineers came to making themselves, one step above us as the engineers had public relations with these people as. Shown by the docking station. The whole concept is about false gods in the end.
it won't, too many Gen X and Boomer haters ... they can't get past hating everything after Aliens.... the only people who actually love ALL 6 of the Alien films are millennials
@carloscontreras3633 nothing is wrong bro. I'm a millennial too, and love ALL 6 of the Alien movies especially the films made recently ... it's the old farts who keep bashing all the movies.
I never understood the over the top Prometheus hate. Sure, it wasn't perfect, but it opened up some really interesting story arcs....which covenant completely ignored and went the idiotic route.
Now that the real author of the 'Draft 17' Prometheus fan script (Mark McAllister) has admitted writing it, will you be doing a video about how many of your previous videos were not based on a genuine early Lindelof draft after all?
Idk how I and others weren’t more suspicious about how the “drafts” kept trying to perfectly bridge explanation gaps that weren’t in the movie. But how did you know?
@@BabyKobeeee well it had been clear for a long time that the 'Draft 17' script was a fake, because of all the misspellings, Damon Lindelof calling it out as a fan script, the circumstances of the 'leak' (emailed to prometheusnews along with the single word 'oops' from a gmail account purporting to be Lindelof's). But we only figured out the author because of the script's resemblance to an EARLIER fake, the 'Planet Zeus' draft. The same words were misspelled the same way, and since we knew for sure that Mark McAllister wrote the Planet Zeus script (because he left his name in the doc) we knew he wrote 'Draft 17' too. I tracked Mark down a few weeks ago to let him know how many people actually preferred his fan script to the movie. He told me 'I had no idea it had been picked up by RUclips. I know there were some who fell for it back on some Alien forums I followed but I thought my usernames would have been a strong enough hint'
I personally think you could be wrong about planet 4 residents and the engineers being different. Considering the life span of the engineers and the fact that they were able to reproduce using the deacons blood, is it possible that this is evolution? The ones on the planet have eyes like us and are smaller. Both of us live on a planet with a sun so our pupils don't need to be huge to catch enough light to see. Gravity and oxygen levels influence the size of an animal. Also its natural predators would influence its size. There didn't seem to be things hunting those on planet 4. And even though there skin is pale, it is darker then the engineers. Guaranteed that gravity would be different in space and oxygen levels could be higher considering the ship produces artificial versions of both. Big pupils like the engineers are great for low light environments like space and lower gravity and higher levels of oxygen that could be produced in a spaceship can have the effect of allowing the body to increase in size as most scientists believe is why dinosaurs grew so large. Large size would also help them to fight off predators like the xenomorphs and other alien life forms like the yautja.
I think David found the creation that the Engineers were most proud of, and destroyed them out of spite.
Interesting take
That was my immediate thought…
Now my official head cannon.
Ridley Scott himself is watching this video rn hoping to figure out the plot of his own movie
Right??

The Engineers keep me coming back to this franchise. They are one of the most interesting fictional characters out there, but we know so little about them. Exploring their origin, their home world, their creations and plans, etc would be immensely exciting. They leave so much room for creative imaginations, and the potential to take this franchise to the next level. As cool as the xenomorphs are, it gets redundant at some point. Imo they are secondary characters. They aren't enough to move the plot and keep the franchise going. We need a return to Prometheus and to the Engineer's world.
Yesssssssss
Agreed, the xenomorph appeal as rhe main antagonist has lost its appeal and having a perverted AI taking its place seems way more interesting at this point. Looking forward to Convenant's sequel hard!
@@jonascastejon5888it’s not a sequel to covenant.. it’s a soft reboot and takes place between the first and second alien movies.
I think the inhabitants were the Engineers proudest creation. The creation that didn’t disappoint their creators like the Humans did.
Yup that is what it is, they even look like theh worship the engeniers
The kiss between Luke and Leia is totally plausible as the two didn't know each other att., plus she only did it to annoy Han, obviously :)
exactly sometimes the curtains are just blue.
You clearly underestimate Ridley Scott, and don't know much about him.

There's so much more potential in this story and universe I think a limited series may be a good format to tell the story

3 hours and ONLY about the Engineers. That would be the best sci-fi film in history imho.
Solid points on AI and hence David.

Kroft you have no idea just how much I love and appreciate your great work on this channel
Like think of even here on Earth, we have areas that are very technologically advanced with people who are bigger, stronger, much more knowledgeable and skilled in all the sciences, and others where people still look, talk and live like they did hundreds or even thousands of years ago
It's also possible that it's a Lord Of Light kind of situation, where the less advanced civilisation on that planet view them as gods
I don't know a lot about any of this, but this sounds like a good explanation.
Covenant was the best movie of the franchise with the twist at the end, by far.
Now Romolus is the worst of the whole franchise 🙃 And Covenant looks like a real gem besides Romolus
Fully agree that Prometheus was the best thing that happened to the franchise. But man you are being too hard on Covenant. I still rank it #2 on my list of best in franchise, after Prometheus.

But that’s not true though because the engineers said there was only one successful test was it the humans or these people in paradise ?
This has been my assumption all along. Obviously they were not as techno-advanced as the engineers themselves, yet were created by them in their image more closely than human beings.
Plus the goo doesn't seem like an exact science
they're even not look as engineers, but more like human stylish
The thing to remember is that the Plot was about these Engineers had Seeded/Created us... they came back to Evolve us Genetically and Technological wise ( to a Certain Level) and so its assumed a lot of the knowledge to Built many of our Ancient Structures and Buildings... if the Engineers are the ones passing this knowledge on, then YES, it could be that their Architecture is similar. But Planet 4 has Technology, it has a Hanger and Juggernauts and the Border Control Docking Ship... littered around the City is Technology and some Buildings look more Modern.
i believe they are sub-species of engineers
@@davebear9825 It did always bug me though when people who weren't even that familiar with the movies would swear that was the engineer planet... I always though to myself no way, it would be way more advanced looking than that. Not to mention the eyes, and their height.

I'm going to guess that the elephant beings are the engineers!

@@twasbrillig33elephant? The navigator you mean? Aka the pilot etc.
I thought the engineer story in Prometheus was a lot more interesting and entertaining than the aliens just running around killing people.
Yeah exactly! This video doesn't explain anything only provide his guessing.

That was my first thought
Ridley Scott FINALLY confirms he can't come up with an Alien movie that isn't just about an android.
saved me from typing it
It clearly says: "The engineers coming back to find their planet decimated". Sound like it were engineers all along.
One of many planets. The difference in biology and technology clearly indicates 2 different species. The engineers seeded many worlds because their own race was dying out so they were returning to their creation that was the closest to themselves.
But Earth was technically "their planet"
There seems to be two factions within the engineers those who believe in creating life and those who worship the deacon.
That would explain why no one ever came to finish off Earth, and why the site was abandoned, sort of like Cherynobl.
or they are from a higher caste that includes the engineers that have lived for hundreds of thousands of years
That makes sense. The military types have been engineered to be sterile to control their numbers because they are larger and dangerous.

I feel like there is so much to be explored with this franchise (Prometheus) and a episodic version of what comes next for David or go back to different open-ended storylines would work.
For example:
Like, so many things should be explored more.

Ridley Scott is making it along. He has no plan.
Ridley Scott: The engineers are coming back to THEIR planet to see what happened
Kroft: That definitely says it’s not their planet
Me: ???

Had they kept the original opening scene sacrificial bowl the size comparison to humans would have been ridiculous especially in the engineer scenes at the end of the movie

Tall order, but Ridley is capable of producing a mature sci-fi offering that reinvigorates this world for discriminating fans.
Yes but the franchise started off as a superior Science Fiction Horror movie so how does it shake loose of that?
when will the next movie be released? anyone know?
So my guess would be either:
a) they are not the same species as the world seeding engineers and have lower level technology
b) they are the same species (lower budget designs) but there has been a disconnect between the off world engineers and the homeworld engineers.
Classic clickbait title too. Ridley never ONCE said anything of the like "confirming" the colonists weren't engineers.
I believe that David found one of the planetary settlements of the species that we call engineers, and that the people on the planet, planet four, are the original species that the engineers come from. Basically, those engineers are genetically altered forms of those species found on planet, four, which David destroyed with the Xenos.
Another great video Kroft!
Scott should write a book entitled 'How to Mess Up a Great Story With Inane Movies'.
they simply didn't have the budget.
This needs to be made into a series, and he needs to make it exactly as he planned. Good art will sell it self.
I said that to my friends hundred of times. That people were more "humans" than engineers. David just wanted to just the engineers hurting the people they loved most. David literaly became lúcifer,
All these Kroft videos lately feels like early Christmas 😁
Blade runner proves your statment accurate
I like, when he says "Engineeers".
The engineers could no longer procreate so seeded the stars, this race was definitely the closest the engineers came to making themselves, one step above us as the engineers had public relations with these people as. Shown by the docking station.
The whole concept is about false gods in the end.
i hope this franchise continues in the future
it won't, too many Gen X and Boomer haters ... they can't get past hating everything after Aliens.... the only people who actually love ALL 6 of the Alien films are millennials
What is wrong with millennials loving this movie series? It’s fascinating
@@gravelpit5680that’s a huge market.
@@gravelpit5680 I think Ridley needs to leave the franchise alone and someone else take up the mantle of directing it
@carloscontreras3633 nothing is wrong bro. I'm a millennial too, and love ALL 6 of the Alien movies especially the films made recently ... it's the old farts who keep bashing all the movies.
We need a final film. I loved Prometheus.
Ridley Scott didn't confirm anything. You just made a bunch of guesses for 9 minutes. Which is fine, without the clickbait headline.
I never understood the over the top Prometheus hate. Sure, it wasn't perfect, but it opened up some really interesting story arcs....which covenant completely ignored and went the idiotic route.
Amazing can’t wait for another sequel to this block buster of a movie ❤
Giger's name is pronounced using the long 'e' sound, so it'd be pronounced 'Geeger.'
No, it's pronounced Gigger.
Now that the real author of the 'Draft 17' Prometheus fan script (Mark McAllister) has admitted writing it, will you be doing a video about how many of your previous videos were not based on a genuine early Lindelof draft after all?
***This***
Idk how I and others weren’t more suspicious about how the “drafts” kept trying to perfectly bridge explanation gaps that weren’t in the movie.
Bro can the next alien movie just come already
Good things take time
@@timspiker it's been almost 7 years 😭
@@carnage8120 This gonna be goooood 😂
2024 Alien Romulus is coming and it’s gonna be terrible Lmao it’s another standalone horror movie
@@BabyKobeeee jeez I hope not
I personally think you could be wrong about planet 4 residents and the engineers being different.
0:52 Engineers returning to find "Thier" planet decimated. Clearly saying the Engineers have ownership of the world.
