The only thing he did to get to the Super bowl was to hire Jimmy Johnson. Then he fired him, because all the credit was rightly going to Jimmy Johnson. Jerry isn't good enough to be a winning GM.
Jones does deserve alot of credit. He has a business mind and bought the cowboys picked people who could pick such as jimmy Johnson. But now he picks people who pick who he says to pick. That's the issue.
Jerry Jones ego is the reason why the Cowboys won't win another Super Bowl and won't make another NFC Championship game appearance. Jerry deserves credit for hiring Jimmy and figuring out the financials for the franchise. He deserves the blame for Jimmy leaving and for not bringing in a GM. While Jerry (and Will McClay) has drafted well for the most part, his cap management has been terrible, and he refuses to hire another strong willed head coach since Jimmy and Parcells.
Jerry seems to want all of the credit for the success in Dallas, but none of the criticism for the failure of the Cowboys. He literally micromanages the entire operation from the food thats served all the way up to the responsibilities of Head Coaches and hes the General Manager and has been since he bought the cowboys. I think it's gotten to the point that Jerry Jones is perfectly fine being a contributor to the fall of the cowboys. He'd rather see them fail, then not get the credit for their success.
He is a genius. He has redefined the cowboys brand to mean “hope and despair”. And the fans have been groomed to accept it year in and year out. Why win when you can just tease?
This is only proof it was Jimmy Johnson who built the team in the 90’s. Jones is a great businessman, but he is a horrible GM and the worst GM in the history of the NFL.
Glad no one is comparing Jerry to Al Davis; they may be similar at first glance, but the difference is that Davis actually was a very good GM at one point, but the game passed him by. Even so, he was able to get the Raiders to one last SB before he died, even though they didn't win it. Jerry, by contrast, is not a has been... he is a never was. He got lucky with Jimmy Johnson, then pissed that away, and hasn't even sniffed success since.
I actually did compare Jerry jones to Al Davis, but I compared Jerry Jones' entire tenure as GM to Al Davis' tenure as GM only from 2003 up to the time of his death partway through the 2011 season. The reason for this is because they were the only owners who were also GMs of their teams, and both of those tenures were and still are disappointments. I've also heard that Jerry Jones was inspired by Al Davis in terms of ownership style. It wouldn't surprise me if it were true, but I just want some confirmation on that claim. Would you happen to know if there's any truth to that?
@ I’ve heard that it was, and that Davis and Jerry met for a long while when he first bought the Cowboys, and encouraged that hands on style. This is fine if you know football, and have the humility to step aside if things aren’t working. Davis had football knowledge, but had become largely outdated. Jerry never did, but got lucky with Johnson and the Walker trade. Both of them did have huge egos that made them stay at the helm despite poor results.
@jonraybon8582 Hmm, interesting. I wouldn't say that Jerry Jones has no football knowledge, seeing as he played college football (with Jimmy Johnson no less), but I think it's accurate to say he doesn't have the proper football knowledge to be a successful GM. His ego is really big though, and I still believe that's the biggest reason the Cowboys haven't made it back to at least a conference title game since 1995.
You really think anyone thought Romo was worth S*** in 2004? lol. No Jerry was focused on Chad Hutchinson Drew Henson and Drew Bledsoe, Quincy Carter, etc as QB. Deon said it, but few really appreciated it. He took a contract for less money because he wanted to be a Cowboy more than a rich player in the NFL. Forget the money, the NFL is so vast that a player can be wealthy anywhere. Money aside, a great team must want to be part of a team that THEY feel is greater than themselves. It may sound corny, but when a player puts the star on, he does this with pride and humility. This honor is what drives players and coaches to be Cowboys and not just NFL players.
The cowboys have drafted ridiculously well, they routinely being in free agents, and make in season moves to compete. They make the playoffs almost every year. Other then have playoff success and a recent Super Bowl they have done pretty well with Jerry as GM.
The "old" Cowboys left the "new" Cowboys with a dream slate. One of the best QB's of the last (Aikman), Irvin, Hershel, early draft position for a couple of years and free agency. Aikman and Irvin were a once is a lifetime gift. Difficult to duplicate that. And Jones hasn't done it.
I'm a Niner fan who lives in west Texas, and as time goes by, as a Texan myself, I feel bad for how much the Cowboys had become a joke, especially knowing that they were once a powerhouse under a legendary coach who was a Texas native, revolutionized the game, and was the only coach they ever had at the time until Jerry fired him. Don't get me wrong. I still laugh when my team beats the Cowgirls, but I'll admit, the rivalry hasn't been the same, nothing close to the rivalry back in the 90s.
Barry Switzer may have been a good coach but after he took over as head coach, his Super Bowl was still Jimmy Johnson's SB win since nothing was changed in the team to win it
I've said it before, without a doubt those Cowboys teams of the early 90's would've been what The Patriots are today with 6 Championships, and Jimmy Johnsons firing was the main reason that franchise has been on the downward trajectory Ever since😮😊!!!
I'm not a Cowboy fan, so I don't care if they win, but I DO feel for the great players that have had to fight through all the bad coaching and organizational dysfunction. The one great coach they hadafter Johnson was Parcells, and his assistant head coach was Sean Peyton. That lasted only 3 years, but the two of them handpicked Demarcus Ware, Jason Witten, and Tony Romo--all of whom were excellent, kept the Cowboys competitive for a decade when the coaching was bad to terrible, and deserved better. As did Zac Martin, Tyron Smith, Dez Bryant, Marion Barber, and a few others I'm forgetting. As for current greats like Parsons and Lamb, I'm not optimistic.
I keep telling a friend of mine down in Georgia that he’s running a plantation. He doesn’t give a crap about that team. Not one iota. He doesn’t give a crap. He lets good players go. He sucks once he’s in the ground. Maybe we can get an owner or good general manager. We can put good players in place.
The ONLY thing I can think off about not drafting moss, is maybe Jerry assumed is off field problems would play a bigger part and he’d be out of the league. Other than that, he needs to get rid of the team 😂
Jerry damn near snatches that Super Bowl trophy out the man’s hand all that was missing from Jerry’s mouth was yeah whatever get lost we did it guys lol😂
Jerry owes a world of thanks to Herschel Walker for fetching the Cowboys an insane amount of 1st round picks that were used to build them up. Herschel and Jimmy Johnson, that is. What Jerry brings is evident over the 30+ years. No other team owner acts as Jerry does, and thats why the Cowboys will NOT win another championship for a very long time.
and the worst is his son is stepping in based on blood line and not talent. please jones sell the team and be gone you are destroying the team with your lack of knowledge of football but too arrogant to admit it

An owner's job is to own and/or finance the team. A coach's job is to make the team work. 🤔
Im a cowboys fan. I dont know any fan thats not ready for him to die.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
13.35 dynasty years, not destiny years.
Pff over half the other teams like "Welcome to the club of misery! We love the company!"
Jerry Jones has the #1 valuable sports team in the world. Fans still support the Cowboys. JJ makes billions with this team. JJ is a business man.
🙏🏾☹️🙌🏾PRAYERS over ALL,🏈
🙏🏾🙌🏿PRAYERS FOR THE BEST✊🏾
Great documentary... as a fan of a rival team I love how Jerry is the iceberg the Cowboys struck, in 2024 keep they keep sinking. 🤣
Same. I hope Jerry lives to be 110.
...corn kernels for teeth? THAT was mean, but funny as hell!
0:49 who let Payton Manning be a cowboys fan
Damn! Lol
Wait a minute? Really? 🤔🤔
Being a cowboys fan is the equivalent of being in a dysfunctional and toxic relationship 😭😩
He needs to sit his old ass down....
This man's teeth were really that yellow?
11:20- Dang! Did you see Jerra yanking that Lombardi trophy away from Switzer?😮
Eagles fans love jerry......the cowboys are like the flyers they throw money around and the team is still bad.
Jerry's ego got in the way they could've won until the late 90s
Jerry jones is the one to blame for the cowboys disaster please put the Cowboys for sale i hope the fans boycott the Cowboys games 😝😝😝👇😝😝😝
I’m sure all Cowboys fans would consider it a personal favor if Jerry were to hire a Gm. All in Jerry
The ONLY thing I can think off about not drafting moss, is maybe Jerry assumed is off field problems would play a bigger part and he’d be out of the league.
Other than that, he needs to get rid of the team 😂
Moss was an off the field issue and we didn't need any more players with potential issues, as we had had enough of that in 1996 and 1997.
Jerry The Jinx!
If Jerry REALLY wants to win another Super Bowl he needs to fire himself.
The Dallas Cowboys are America's Team, except for the America outside Texas' border.
That's what happens when the owner is secretly betting against his own team. He gets richer secretly !
Jerry damn near snatches that Super Bowl trophy out the man’s hand all that was missing from Jerry’s mouth was yeah whatever get lost we did it guys lol😂
literally
Jerry owes a world of thanks to Herschel Walker for fetching the Cowboys an insane amount of 1st round picks that were used to build them up. Herschel and Jimmy Johnson, that is. What Jerry brings is evident over the 30+ years. No other team owner acts as Jerry does, and thats why the Cowboys will NOT win another championship for a very long time.
and the worst is his son is stepping in based on blood line and not talent. please jones sell the team and be gone you are destroying the team with your lack of knowledge of football but too arrogant to admit it
if I may .. Stephen is pronounced the same as Steven .... same name with a different spelling. Great video. Agree 100% .... tks!! #UpVote
I still laugh about Jerry saying he wants cowboys to get back to "glory hole days"
I like Jerry. He's no George Steinbrenner but he's cool 😎
Enough already
I honestly think they had a fake jerry jones during them first 5 super bowls cuz idk wtf hes doing now lol
Technically Clint Murchison Jr. was owner when they won the first two super bowls. Jerry COULD have won 5 if he hadn't fired Jimmy Johnson. But in our reality he won only 3.
I've had enough. I'm going all in on the Panthers
With Jerry Jones at the top, we'll NEVER WIN AGAIN !!!
He is the worst thing to happen to the Dallas Cowboys in the history
What if the Dallas Cowboys hired Deion Sanders & drafted his son 2025 🤷🏿♂️🗣️🤝
As an Eagles fan I LOVE Jerry Jones!
Jerry Jones will do anything for another Super Bowl EXCEPT fire the current incompetent GM and hire a good one.
Ah yes Head Coach Jerry Jones!
The crazy thing is I don't think jerry even cares
He is secretly betting against The Cowboys !
And he will keep on living like Cincinnati Bengals Mike Brown and Chicago Bears Virginia Halas McCaskey.
Never built he bought a team that was already built but yet he is continuing to destroy it. Time to go!
