10 month's ago at 51 I was pretty fit, Thai boxing, running, KB's and Calisthenics. But I wanted to do more body weight exercises. Pistol's, muscle ups, planches, flags, handstands and the like. My practice had been consistent and I had improved but I knew I wasn't approaching it the right way. Picked up Get Strong after seeing a video of Al & Danny, flicked through the pages and thought I can jump a few weeks ahead, but I asked for advice and was told take the test's in each chapter, but the form in each rep should be perfect. Got the wife to critique my form and started at the beginning 😁After Get Strong went to Next Level Strength and then a blended workout of both books. The programs worked for me, the motivation of improving every 2 weeks, being able to do something a little better or longer is all I need. Plus the sheer thrill of trying something New like Ring Archer Pull ups and being able to do a few and know that in a few weeks time I'll be banging them out is just a Bonus. Awesome Stuff AL 💪👍💪
Hi Al, I agree with you 100%. I’ve found social media to be extremely detrimental to my fitness journey. Camera filters, and my ego created a very unhealthy situation for me. Comparing myself to others was not helping me appreciate my abilities, strength, progress and training. Dropping IG was the best thing I’ve ever done. Thank you for the content sir! 💪💪
I read “Zen Mind, Strong Body” a couple years ago and Al’s comments about trust haven’t changed. Sound principle: Do your research and investigate yourself!
Couldn't agree more. And moreover, your words are applicable not only to fitness industry, but to medical industry, education and many more. Unfortunately, the whole world is slowly becoming a giant market where people do nothing else but buy and sell.
Interesting topic! I believe the same of you Al and I always get sad and little scared when I see more and more people getting in the trap of the fitness supplements even if they are not fitness people at all!!!
Wow. I didn't know that about the Fitness industry not being regulated although I already knew there were a lot of 'get-fit' quick Marketing schemes ou there. Thanks for informing me.
Great advice! If only I knew this 15 years ago the amount of money I would have saved on pointless supplements I could have bought a bigger house. Bodyweight training and eating right are fail proof and cost no extra expense that would have been incurred by just eating to survive. It refreshing to hear you call out the bodybuilding steroid monsters. Still too many fitness gurus who don’t mention the word steroid because they themselves use them. Sadly social media makes things worse, steroid physiques are literally recommended to be viewed on these platforms and young men think it’s natural. They waste tonnes of time and money chasing that look. And the ones who find out it’s steroids that lead to it end up taking them also and screwing their bodies up. Keep up the good work Al!
in Brazil you have to study at a university for 4 years and get your bachelors diploma to be a trainer. Also we have a governmental body that can arrest people for not having their diploma and license if they are teaching/training people. the only exception to this is dance and folcorical and cultural activities.
What do you think of the keto or carnivore diet, as iam 19 stone bloated and manboobs I hate it, you look good, just found you on RUclips, you got a good attitude thanks for being honest
Also generally you wanna listen to the (proper) dieticians, nutritionists, and nutritional scientists and researchers advice on the matter of eating and supplementation. I doubt most personal trainers have taken the time to even learn how to read, much less understand research.
That's great al, you know people want to hear what realy lthey want to hear that's why all that crap sells, like you say al eat healthy and not always eat, and move and you will be better than most, thanks al I trust you, I wish false advertising should have to answer to the courts , because lots of lying 🤥 going on for money, it's really shameful and only going to get worse, thanks al for being a good person
Al, a question, I can do around 39 push ups with full range of motion, however I bench press 180kilo at 98kilo bodyweight like its cheesecake. Sure the rep speed is slow but I can do it anytime I want. With 5-10 minutes of rest in between.. I am very proud of my strength (I built it doing feet together one arm push ups) however I was just challenged for a push up contest, the guy challenging me can do 88 full rom non stop perfect push ups in a row.. My question is, if I do the equal amount of regular push up sets as the sets heavy bench press or feet elevated one arm push ups... Do I need to be worried about losing strength or muscle tissue? Or would increasing my push ups result in a higher than before strength and muscle? I am very torn between the two possibilities. Please help me out.
Hmmm...what are your thoughts on Paul Wade? Does he exist? His Convict Conditioning program? What do you think of kettlebells? Are they truly god's gift to fitness?
Al and Danny are part of the progressive calisthenics certification program that Paul Wade is supposedly part of. Also, the Kavadlo brothers are pictured in "coach's" second and third book. Is he real? Not sure, but if he is the brothers have worked with him.
…As soon as someone try’s to sell me supplements while lm watching their fitness channel l switch off and never bother with them again! Your better off eating a banana or apple, maybe a glass of milk!
"anyone can decide to be a trainer (...) even if they have very little knowledge or experience" That's where I see place for common sense and doing your homework in research and fact-checking. Nothing to be worried about.
So good to see you back making videos Al!. Always a sane voice in the world of crazy.

Hi Al, thanks for sharing and keeping it real. Much appreciated. Respect. 💪
Thanks as always Al, you always shoot straight with us and I appreciate it.
I recently watched a video on Pull ups about how you should do pull ups and why and none of them could get *the top of their heads* past the bar.

Hey Al, Thanks for the great video! I love your honest and down-to-earth approach. And I couldn't agree more about the supplement/fitness industry!
Glad you’re back on RUclips. Love to see you calibrate with Red Delta Project, Jaxblade, and the Bioneer.
I love your stuff man. You inspire me. I want to acquire the best calisthenic information and eventually teach it as well :)
Good advice. Thanks a lot
Well said Al. Thank you. Rock on!

Hey hey hey Al , is whey protein a good supplement?
I've spent so much $ on powders over the last few years and I have no idea if they worked or not. Well, no more!
