I love that while this kitchen is aspirational, it also feels normal! It's a little messy, Claire talks about making certain choices because of budget, etc. It's refreshing!
What I like about it is that there's a sort of balance between order and madness, like it's a place that was very carefully designed to have lots of stuff happening in it. Adam Savage, on one of his Tested talks, described how he sets up his workshop to always have everything a maximum of one movement-of-stuff away; stuff could be in a drawer, but not in a drawer and then under something, for example. So the way this kitchen is set up, where everything's so easily accessible, really feels like it goes towards that same goal.

I am an interior designer and everything you did is amazing. You are right about knowing your kitchen and where things should go, what organizers you need, etc. A functional kitchen can still be beautiful. Love that you added some wood instead of doing all white! Great job Claire :)
Hello, can I pleae ask you, as a designer, whats the material she chose for the counter tops? she said they're meant to look like poured concrete, but arent. do you know what material they are? thank you for your time!
The little nook for sitting and writing/working on your laptop, candle going, that beautiful view out the window, and the cats behind you in their window perch... SO CUTE :')
It’s actually pretty cool seeing chefs cooking on electric heat. Cooking seems to be SO oriented towards gas heat and cooking times and results are different on electric. It’s nice to see chefs getting their results without gas.
it's very rare to see a detailed overview of a professional's home kitchen, so I really appreciate this PS you should peer pressure your other pro cook friends to do kitchen tour vids
Very nice to see all the little touches that maximize space and efficiency. Anyone know what are the countertops made of? Claire made a point of saying they're non porous and super easy to clean and maintain but I didn't catch a material name.
Damn, I'm glad I finally found a commenting mentioning that, I saw no other comments mentioning it at all, and I was starting to think I was hallucinating, even though I slowed the video down to see it more clearly. :P

So wonderful to get an even more detailed glimpse at how a chef's mind works when it comes to designing a kitchen for their needs. I love the balance of personal and practical - getting lots of inspiration. Thanks, Claire!
My younger daughter is at the start of her professional cooking journey and I’m giving her the NYT cookbook and an Elizabeth David cookbook for the holidays. It was fun to see them in your kitchen too! She got her current (dream) job in part because she spent the night before her interview reviewing her copy of Escoffier that my brother gave her a few years ago. I LOVE this tour. It's lovely to hear the thought behind every detail. Honestly this is a relatively achievable kitchen and seeing all the things you put in for functionality is super helpful as I think about making small updates to my own kitchen!
I really appreciate that they didn't overly-manicure everything, it's real and practical and well-organised in a way anyone could achieve. Although I can appreciate the design of kitchens styled to be on TV, it doesn't really seem like anyone's made to cook in it because it's so staged and the placement of things and sometimes even the containers don't make sense, because they're for show only. Thanks for this intimate inside look, Claire + co!
I just love that as Claire pets Felix at 2:40, you can clearly see that Felix’s white moustache perfectly matches the way the white streak in Claire’s hair is parted. I love that so much. 😂
Love the tour! Lots of great ideas and things to think about for my kitchen. I did envision the trouble my son would have gotten into it at 10 months old with the knife drawer and oven controls on front. At that age, he took a container of cottage cheese out of the fridge, stood on it, and started to hook the top of a pot of boiling water using the pasta stirrer I’d left on the counter. Since then, I’m keenly aware of the other people in the kitchen with me and kick them out if I need to. My son is in college now, and is a great cook and baker. I no longer kick him out.
You did a great job, I just re did my kitchen (I live in Sweden) and went for dark green cabinets. Loved every minute of this video because I know how it feels so great to custom fit one’s own new kitchen! I gloried in creating a baking corner, a storage container cabinet, and I’m so glad that I insisted on drawers, because we now have a popcorn popper drawer and a snack/bread drawer. Although I do get tired of my son complaining that I have moved the silverware drawer to our new island. Love your vintageware, too!
There’s so much that I love about this video. The way this kitchen screams Virgo energy in the way that everything is in its place and everything has a purpose, the scalene triangle green tile, that unreasonably high pot filler, the Harris cameos and mentions, the little hidden animations, Claire’s fierce passion for the cabbage mugs, and most importantly, the fact that Claire’s hair matches Felix’s moustache in this video. Enjoyable and helpful. We have 3 cats. Your cat door immediately took me back over 40 years ago when we cut an oversized “mouse” hole in a door so our cats could access their basement litter box. Loved the tour.
Our giant single-basin sink is nearly my favorite thing about what we did to our kitchen, too. Love the knife-holder insert idea! We currently just have to wash and put away immediately to keep them out of the sink or toddler hands, and sometimes that’s tough.
And also she has worked hard for a long time, not just baking stuff on RUclips which, by the way, IS hard work. She’s worked in commercial kitchens, written cook books, plus the recipe development, trial etc. shopping for ingredients, testing recipes, taking photography and plate styling. It takes a lot of mental and physical labour to work in a kitchen, whether you can see it on camera or not.
This is beautiful! Highly functional for you two, and I love that none of it exactly matches, but it all looks so nice together because you've picked out pieces you love. A gorgeous mish mash. I also really dig the 70s mid century but cabin design, and that's what I'm going for too. So this whole video was great!
What a dream kitchen! A tip on the wine, it's not ideal to store it in front of a window. The direct light and temperature changes can cause problems with the wine, so it's best to store it in a cool, dark place. That does look like a nice convenient spot though so simply placing some material, like cardboard, in between the wine and the window would help a lot!
Thanks for the tour of your beautiful new kitchen! Non porous means either quartz or some polymer, usually acrylic with something. Corian is a new popular one.

I would guess quartz because it's non-porous, but she was price-conscious, so maybe not; maybe Corian or similar.
