Totally agree. In any other series it would have been THE stand out match. I still rate '05 as the greatest ever Ashes series and I think it would have been if Australia had won. All 5 matches were epic and could have gone either way. Of course Edgbaston is the one most people remember but for raw tension I honestly think this matched it.
They say Test cricket is boring....they know nothing. That match and near every day of every Test match in that particular series was absolutely enthralling, nail biting and edge of your seat drama. In those final four overs the pressure on those two Australians was huge, they had massive big brass balls and , though I am as English as they come, those two guys have my everlasting respect. It was a let down of course for England, though, as we now know, we came through as winners of probably the most exciting series ever.
In my estimation Test cricket is the "be all and end all" of cricket. What with DRS as it is now, with no more interference, the game is perfectly balanced.
T20 is actually destroying the real cricket..ICC should do something to stop this new inventions cutting cricket to shortest as possible..there should be nothing as short format .. real cricket should be preserved..
Ricky Ponting was a real class act with the bat and around 10:00 you can see the emotion flowing through him!! He's on Sky now and is a real class act on there too. Nice bloke.
Funny to hear yelling Boycott,......../This match resembles to 60/61 WI/Aus series's Adelaide test where last wicket held nearly 2 hours to save the match for Australia. That series has uncanny resemblance to this series which are respectively greatest test series in cricket history. Thanks lot for this upload.
I used to live in Old Trafford and on that day I saw people milling around and starting to queue at 02:30-02:45am on that morning!!! Most of them had big bags of beer to keep them going!!! The atmosphere from my back garden was electric never mind the actual stadium!! That match reminded me of a football crowd more than any other crowd at cricket. Great times, surely we should be playing the Ashes at Manchester rather than Cardiff? Most Welsh detest us!!!! It's 2-1 as I write this , nerve jangling..CMon England !!!! MCFC M20
@Will Richards Because Wales has been in union with England for hundreds of years? The Welsh team is part of the English team. Sure, if cricket was more popular Wales would likely have its own team.
I want everybody to go to the segment of 10:20 to 10:30 That segment to me will always be symbolic of what quality test cricket is all about. Here you have a great batsman who's batting for his life and for the team towards a draw, and on the other hand england doing everything they can to get him, cuz they knew he was the one between England and victory. What I want to point out is at 10:24 in the background you can see a man with a blue shirt. Now notice how that blue shirt man and ponting are standing still looking at the umpire. Both are nervous. And once it was declared out, you can see the despair on the face of ponting but on the other hand you can see the sheer exhilaration of the blue shirt man, and ALL THIS IN ONE FRAME! That for me was simply epic stuff.
8 years ago.....it's flown. This series has arrived with the weather, proper summer, cold beers, The Ashes. Brilliant first Test. 4 more to go. GOD. I've gotta hand it to you. Mint.
What a match...The win is played between two teams and finally it reaches the Drawn....Excellent...This match is enough to say test also the best format of Cricket...
wow English common sense must be close to non-existent, call Australia arrogant that continues a rant that reeks of arrogancy, very hard to insult some with very little intelligence, Chris Lord almighty
The only bad thing about winning this series was that it was the end of that England team basically. They wouldn’t be that good again. Not that group of players. It should have been the start of a dominant period. That took another 4-5 years.
People don’t know the true value of test cricket. The comebacks that are possible, the endurance that is needed and the concentration you need to bat or bowl those hours not to mention field. People find it boring because it is slow, they do not see the good balls and the excellent shots. Even a low scoring test match can be really fun to watch. I for one love test cricket.
The days when Umpires used to decide fate of the game. One Glorified so-called "the best" (Bucknor) and the other "Incapable" and a clown (Bowden). Both of them cost England this test match. Cricket is much much better without the two of them.
I liked both umpires. Sure they made some mistakes but at least when they said someone was out they were out. None of this fannying around with reviews. The players only use DRS in their favour all the time. It was introduced to stop clear errors. Not to help teams win the game. I thought Bowden and Bucknor were characters and made the game better.
watching it in 2016 and still have goosebumps one of the finest test matches I have seen in my life

2005 ASHES , 2001 INDIA- AUSTRALIA and now the recent 2020-21 India vs Australia test series are the 3 best test series in last 20 years...
Of all time*
Hold on dude...have you watched india vs australia 2020-21 series?
@@siddharthsingh9409 ya that was edited
Great documentary, although a little biased. They showed highlights of Vaughans hundred, why not Ponting's?
Because he was a cheater 😂😂😂😂 sucker
Australia celebrating a draw. Who would've thought lol

I totally agree. I find it really annoying when people say cricket is boring. Usually they don't even know what their talking about
its just the T20 naysayers who say that Tests are "boring" - T20 is the one thing that is killing the art of Test Cricket
In my estimation Test cricket is the "be all and end all" of cricket. What with DRS as it is now, with no more interference, the game is perfectly balanced.
ian cannon totally agree each day of 2005 ashes were awesome
T20 is actually destroying the real cricket..ICC should do something to stop this new inventions cutting cricket to shortest as possible..there should be nothing as short format ..
real cricket should be preserved..
That match is impossible to explain to Americans. Play for 5 days and nobody wins, but one team is celebrating.
"So was the McGrath threat" chills.
😂😂😂 what threat ?
This was greatest ashes series....beating that Australian team was a challenging..
Ricky Ponting was a real class act with the bat and around 10:00 you can see the emotion flowing through him!! He's on Sky now and is a real class act on there too. Nice bloke.
+Jack Barr-Baxter I didn't know him personally. I try not to judge people on what the press say, especially the tabloids.
Such a great cricketer Brett Lee is . Never knew about this particular knock by him...
It's sad that Warne could never get a hundred
Other than the 1st and last test, each of them were entertaining, especially Edgbaston.

Couldn't agree more the opening test shouldn't have been played at Cardiff
@Will Richards England and Wales Cricket board
Check where Simon Jones is from, you're welcome.
@Will Richards Because Wales has been in union with England for hundreds of years? The Welsh team is part of the English team. Sure, if cricket was more popular Wales would likely have its own team.
Awesome...... great upload!
Now where is the 4th Test please?
The ONLY sour note of the series was that Marcus did not get the hundred he deserved, one of my favourite players ever xxx dishy
In this match gilchrist wk🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
End of the greatest survival ever in cricket at 10:30
Faf Du Plessis in 2012 was the best
Amla and De Villiers resistance in 2015 Delhi test was exceptional too although they lost the test
Gilchrist was Flintoff's bunny this series
I want everybody to go to the segment of 10:20 to 10:30

Brilliant brilliant comment brother. I'll never get over that "gulp" from Ponting. If ever a picture tells a thousand words.
the ending was so nervous i thought Brett was going to get clean bowled
8 years ago.....it's flown. This series has arrived with the weather, proper summer, cold beers, The Ashes. Brilliant first Test. 4 more to go. GOD. I've gotta hand it to you. Mint.
If you are still around its been 14 years and counting.Great series.
the only series better than this was the 06-07 series in australia. 5-0, warne, mcgrath dominating. we destroyed england that year.
Nice fight back by Australia
The toughest format.... toughest sport..
One hell of a series ..that was..
The look of Steve Harmison when he takes Pontings wicket, literally a man willing to die for the cause
What a match...The win is played between two teams and finally it reaches the Drawn....Excellent...This match is enough to say test also the best format of Cricket...
As a Lancastrian even I have to say Boycott is a legend!!! Go on Geoff ..MCFC M20
Typical Boycott there at 1:27

wow English common sense must be close to non-existent, call Australia arrogant that continues a rant that reeks of arrogancy, very hard to insult some with very little intelligence, Chris Lord almighty
9:12 ehhh mate don't walk on the danger zone
The only bad thing about winning this series was that it was the end of that England team basically. They wouldn’t be that good again. Not that group of players. It should have been the start of a dominant period. That took another 4-5 years.

best series ever ruined by the English handing out MBE''s to donuts like Paul Collingwood

Y2K O_o what decisions did they get wrong?
Salty much.

good stuff they did here showed every bit of england doing well and a small mention for pontings century.
