    That was a fun one.
    The compressor was already off on thermal at 14:40 while you were explaining what the plan was, even before you began pumping it down. I thought it sounded a bit too quiet, and then I compared the footage before and after the cut. Yep, compressor was stopped. "We have a running system" LOL NOPE
    It was actively dying while you were hooking up to decommission it. You were definitely "just at the right time" with that one.

    I watch these videos always thinking how fun it looks to fix these things up and have it all work properly. Working in IT I almost never get to truly fix things up in a way that I'd be confident they'll last as long as some of this equipment. At the same time watching this makes me wonder what causes this stuff to be so expensive when the basic mechanics seem to have hardly changed. You moan about the electronics a lot and I get that. At the same time it seems some of these systems could be a little brighter with a few sensors to alert of issues before things blow up. Equally I wonder why it seems there is not much monitoring going on. Wouldn't you rather call up a customer seeing the equipment deteriorate and tell them you'll come out at a convenient time for them to adjust it before things go off completely?

  • @kc0eks

    So please explain to me how an O-ring in the cap is in any way more or less effective than the O-ring in the Schroeder valve, in the same fixture? Most hydraulic fittings use O-rings to seal for pressures much higher than refrigerant. I would guess those caps leak because of dirty or corroded fixtures or bad O-rings, not because they are "caps".

    • @Monkeh616
      @Monkeh616 29 дней назад +3

      Hydraulic fittings are designed to handle those pressures, with the correct o-rings and seats. These are intended as nothing more than dust caps to keep contamination out of the valves. The Schraders often fail and leak, why would you expect a part not intended to hold pressure to do at least as well?
      Do you expect the dust cap on your tyres to hold pressure in with a failed schrader? (and yes, some of those have o-rings..)

    I've got a tough question and can't wait for you next live stream. We're in a bit of a pinch. It's June, in Daytona Beach. Neighbor and I bough Carrier AC system about 9 years ago. Both of our AC's previous systems were almost 30 years old when they quit. Lee went all the way and got a variable speed fan. Big mistake. (Why does a fan need to be variable speed?) Does the control system send 120v to the blower and the blower decides what speed to run? Can we install a 120v, single speed motor to spin the blower? I understand we may need to do some software mods. as well. We're not HVAC, but I do have some skills when it comes to vapor cycle and air cycle machines. We don't see anything on the market that's worth the money they're asking for. Both of our systems have been junk since the day they were installed. Way to many problems to list. Could you point us in the direction where we could get some better intelligence. Both of our condensers have rotted away. Lee's is GONE. We've been exploring getting used condensers, in good shape, and having them anodized. Alodine would need a protective coating. Cheapest option but is a non starter.

    • @stevenhorne5089
      @stevenhorne5089 28 дней назад

      BTW I'm on my 3rd blower motor. Or should I say controller. Luckily I was either to cheap to buy the multi sped, or just way to smart. Why would you need multi speed for a residential AC?
