- How to replace/upgrade the governor pressure sensor and solenoid in my 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 with a 48re transmission. My understanding is this is the same for the 46re and 47re transmissions also.
I am not a professional. but this was pretty easy.
Thx for sharing just did mine today. Had to take the pan off twice had some left over bolts. A few hundred cus words later shifts like butter. Worth the grief.
You just described my problem perfectly. My local transmission shop gave me an $1100 estimate to replace the solenoid. Thank you for the video
It's not a terrible job. I hope it helps.
I went ahead and installed a BD-diesel transducer along with the Borg Warner governor solenoid and adjusted band. Seems to be running stronger with good shifts. Great video details.
Great news! Thanks for the compliment.
When doing this job. Its a good time to change filter and install a deeper pan for cooler trans oil or atleast an aftermarket pan with a drain plug
Install
Nut weld to pan
Bolt with crush washer flush with nut .
No need for 300$ after market pan
Weld 2 pans
Now you have a deeper pan and keep hundreds $

The best video. Thank a lot
I just serviced a transducer last night
Hay i liked your video. I'm in the middle of this same project on my second Gen Ram 2500 gas . I need more information did you use RTV on the transmission pan ? And did you use a paper gasket or rubber ? The rest of the information you put in the video was like Gold to me.
Thanks
Thank you for the kind words. I am afraid I do not recall what I did for gaskets.
I'm now drunk after taking a shot of tequila every time you said transducer
What symtoms did gour truck have, if you don't mind me asking? Thanx..
Since the guy from this post havent reply to you and sow no manors i wil explain You... Your truck must be havin trouble shifting, for example taking too long to shiftor u hear a buzzing sound before the truck shift if that its the case u needtodo what this video says.
Did low fluid can damage new governor sensor i fix mine (not first gear) run good for 30 miles start doing it again but those 30 miles was low on fluid
Great video tutorial!!
Can you tell me if that is also the temperature sensor for the transmission too? I have an 03 Cummins with the 48re, and my trans temp reading just went away on my Smarty Touch. Still shifting just fine but I'm assuming the temp sensor failed.
Thanks for the feedback. I haven't dealt with the temperature sensor. I hope it's not too difficult.
THANKS FOR THIS!!!
thanks for posting
Get a pneumatic sucker its awesome makes that job much easier friend, harbor freight about $100.
This is very helpful, thank you. I am getting the p0700 code after my truck with go into limp mode and locks me in 2nd gear.
Thinking this could be the issue.
Thank you for your kind words. Good luck.
i have same problem. i will try this
Could you manually downshift it to first when this was going on?
I've got an 04.5 with 680 more miles on the odometer that just started doing the same thing.
Very well done video. Hopefully it will fix mine. What code were you getting?
Thanks! If I recall correctly, I didn't have any codes. That said, 2.5 years and 35,000+ miles later she's been holding up. Thanks again for the kind words. Good luck!
question is a reflash necessary after this is done on a 545rfe
i have the check engine light and p1762 Governor Pressure sensor, but my truck transmission seems fine and shifts good. Any Ideas?
Yes there is a kit where you re-lace both the pressure solenoid and the transducer, common problem on these and they both should be changed
Will this work on a 45fre?
you didn't mention or show the GP Sensor replacement, only the G solenoid
i LEFT AS SOON AS HE SAID HE WAS GOING TO REUSE THE FLUID.
LOL you have a garbage can tool bench just like me!
That's hilarious.
I’m lost over here with my 04. It suddenly stopped locking up, and I have no trouble code at all. We hooked into a live data scanner and it appears the computer is commanding the tcc solenoid as we can watch it go from low to high volts (assuming of to on) when driving however the tc will not lockup. I have no issues with shifting it goes through the gears just fine like I said it just will not lock up. Do you know if this could be the issue? I’m going to go check all electric external of the trans now that I have a day off it’s my daily tho and don’t want to tear it down and possibly not have a way to work Monday. Any info is greatly appreciated
Sorry Lamb Chop, I've got nothing on this one.
That sounds like trans temp sensors, sending low voltage low temperature signal to the computer, computer is thinking it just needs to warm up that's all so it's not allowing lockup
Where did you get the parts? thanks Great video!
Ebay
@@Tieknee No disrespect but I wouldn't buy any parts from ebay. They may be cheaper, in price, than all other part stores but there's a reason for that. Unless you know for a fact that the part your getting is a brand name other than that they are all from China. Some people may shrug and not care, but I'd assume everyone's vehicle is your means to get to work, which is most important. And that's just one reason to use quality parts. Plus why go through all that trouble just to put in a cheaply made part that is fairly important in making the vehicle go.
Best way to go about it, if you can wait, is order from Rockauto.com. They have the best prices. BUT I way my pros and cons with buying locally because if you buy a Standard Electric Product they have a lifetime warranty. I replaced a Throttle Position sensor with a Standard and about a year later it went bad. I took it back to O'Reilly's and they replaced it no questions asked.
You said be careful with the aluminum and you're going to tighten them four bolts 102 foot pounds I'm sure you meant inch pounds

Oh shoot, you are right! I see I corrected a little bit later. I need to try to edit that out some how. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
I cut that short clip out. I couldn't figure out how to add text to the video. Maybe one day I will have a computer that can handle editing video and get back into this. Thanks again!
Nice vid, but those should have been all metric bolts. 1/2, 7/16. Should have been 11 and 13 mm. Otherwise thanks for sharing
What year is your truck
2003
hey @Tieknee, amazing video, hopefully it helps with my install, I noticed that when you installed you're solenoid, that you might've connected the connector upside down, it looks like you got the Borg Warner Solenoid, and if so, they require you to turn the connector 180 degrees around for the connector to snap onto the tab, I found this out on this video! ruclips.net/video/PcPtT1NpBhQ/видео.html . hopefully im wrong and you havent had additional issues with your trans requiring you to drop your pan again! I see its been over 2 years now. Thank you again for this informational tutorial.
Thanks for your kind words and tip. I've not seen this video. On occasion, I have what I like to call a stutter step into overdrive, but no hanging issues. I'll check it out when I service the trans. Thanks again.
I watched the clip of the video. It looks, or at least sounds, like I plugged it in correctly, but didn't realize it was rolled. I appreciate your guidance. It's going to be on my mind till I check it out.
130 inch pounds? Thanks for having me sheer my pan bolt. False Info.
My transmission must be shot. Replace governor transducer and shift solenoid were replaced. Still shifts past 3 rpm. I drove almost 50mph in two gears. 98 dodge ram 5.2 1500😭
I'm sorry to hear that. I wish I could be more helpful.
Yes that is exactly how mine would do. It would act up, then suddenly it works perfect. Just like that false hope I had at the end of my band adjustment video. I don't recall any hard shifting though.
Make sure your kick down return spring from Your trans its in place
What was the part number in that solenoid
I am not 100% sure. I bought mine as a kit. Doing an internet search for BorgWarner 48re, I turned up part number 50185. I hope this helps. Good luck.
worst music ever
What year is your truck
