This song is written by the singer and co-guitarist Claudio Sanchez. He uses the music to explore his feelings and as catharsis. This was written about watching his son grow from a baby to a toddler to a child and trying to navigate his own feelings as a father while watching his son grow into himself.
Claudio has a lot of personal connections throughout his music and his ties to family are the strongest ones

To answer your question, the lead singer of Coheed, Claudio, writes graphic novels that go with each album. So you're on the right track with the musical comment. All of the lyrics to every song go with each novel and story.
They are all concept albums basically and hopefully one day we'll get some movies out of them :)

So yes it is a part of a huge rock opera that spans almost their entire discography, and that's the very last song on the most recent album. It's amazing, both the end of this chapter and an amazing beginning to the next chapter of the story. There is so much love for Vaxis from his parents in the story, the lengths they will go to for him is infinite. I would recommend it all 🙌

What an absurd first exposure to Coheed. You've got a great vibe and your movements are exactly like how mine were first time I heard this (until I got emotional lol). And then The Laugh everyone has at 10:00 when That Thing Happens omg. IMO this is their best individual song of all their discography but there's at least one that rivals it per album.
They definitely went hard on the broadway feeling for this. The opening two songs of the same album, as well as a few other songs scattered through it were very Broadway inspired in their direction, and the lead singer's threaded a concept album storyline across 9 of the band's 10 albums. The odd one out is entirely stuff reflecting his IRL space at the time, with like- one song being an apology to his old house for having moved away.
The discography is brilliant, a lot of it ranging from punk-pop to proggy metal. Never too heavy or too light, lots of love songs and rage songs, a few scifi elements, 20 years of it.
Glad you enjoyed, I'm gonna go watch your other videos.

I've seen many people describe this piece as relatable to people with autism and parents who have a child or children with autism. As a man with autism myself that hits home and is inspiring. Especially when the lyrics even feel like it describes scenarios I and my parents experienced because autism and more precisely Aspergers was still so new when I was young that nobody truly knew how to deal with me or like most seventh and fifth grade teachers of mine, didn't care to try. Their mindset was that if brute force doesn't work then let him fall off the tree and die, in a manner of speaking.
