For any people out there trying to convince their parents to let them exchange, I really recommend for you to say why the country you want to move to will help you learn and exceed your college goal, for example I talked to my parents about how Japan is rated #4 on Math & Science which would help me reach my goal on becoming intelligent enough to study as an astronomer, I wouldn't recommend telling them that you want to go to that country because you either want to find cute girls/boys or because you want to meet your favorite musician or band, and lastly pick a right moment to tell them, don't talk about exchanging when your parents are in a hurry or when they don't have time, I hoped this helped!
I'm just a random person, I hope you don't care me commenting. Rotary is the cheapest and most affordable. I heard from this RUclipsr that it only costed her $5,000. It depends on where you are and where you're planning to go really, but Rotary is still the cheapest. However, they're trick, really trick. I heard this guy got sent home because he didn't do his homework. . .~
Yes, it was super expensive for my country(Philippines) and I intended too to study in Japan someday. I was planning to get IB program from any international schools. But it changes my mind to experience Japanese culture but I wasn't there for Anime, Manga, or anything else, but to experience what it feels like to lived there or I'd say I was inspired by Ghibli production(lol, Addicted). I don't have both parents and I lived with my grandparents and waiting for my brother to graduate and find job overseas, so he could pay for my tuition fees and get me a better education. But it's not enough yet, His salary can't pay the whole tuition fees to become exchange student. But since I was just 14 yo kid, I could still create my own financial foundation for my exchange student. But if you weren't familiar with any 'cash flow, asset, liabilities, etc' goodluck with everyone
I really want to go to Japan as a exchange student. No I don't like anime lol. I want to go year 2019! I need to make enough money to pay. I hope the prices doesn't go up or anything :)Also my parents gave me full permission and they are really supported so yay:)
I’m applying for nsliy this fall and it’s free. But it’s highly competitive and hard to get into. It’s a very safe program and they also pay for your plane to orientation/ to host country and back home. I’ve heard very good reviews about it and I personally recommend
I want to exchange to korea so bad! But it is so expensive and that's what hurts the most!! I want to try this out... Im going to enter 9th grade in August, i want to make a power point for my dad letting him know why i should go, but my mind is super unorganized in timing, when should i start applying? Will they reserve a spot? Im so nervous!😫
Hello Keiko, I only have a few questions if you could please help me answer them. Does AFS pays for your food once you're with your host family? If I do exchange once I get to my junior year of high school, when I come back to America would studying in a different country affect my HS years? Would I have to repeat an extra year? Btw, did you learn Italian while you were in Italy? That's all I wanted to ask you, I would meant a lot if you reply back. Thanks!(:
Really detailed video keiko, I enjoyed watching it. But I was just wondering .. if I go with AFS will I have to let another exchange student stay in my home while I'm in Japan?
thank u sooooo much! I'm so glad I found ur video!!! I thinking going to another country just in summer and wondering how to save up money for the trip
I really want to do foreign exchange to Japan and I decided that I wanted to do it since I was 11 so I started to learn, I'm still learning and my family supports my decision, except my mom My dad says I'm smart enough and everything My sister says the same thing But my mom is completely against it because of the family and I'm always trying to convince her but she doesn't want me to go at all I'm still investigating since I have two years And I'm still learning Japanese and am studying a bit on the culture But I hope I get there
I know this video is old but I’m very interested in becoming a foreign exchange student to Germany from the United States. How would you recommend I bring it up with my parents? How to convince them to let me go on exchange? How I can save up the money? I’ve wanted to go on exchange for sooo sooo long but we don’t have the financial means necessarily, any tips for the overall exchange program? I am about to finish my sophomore year of high school, when would you recommend I sign up with ample time to find living situations and things like that?
Hey Keiko love your videos! I'm very interested in becoming a foreign exchange student and my parents are very open to the idea. I was talking to my mom about exchange one day and she told me that my grandparents hosted and she basically had a foreign exchange student live with her and is very open to the idea, but she does have some concerns. I asked her what they are and she said 1 cost 2 cost and 3 safety so if I were to get a scholarship to AFS or some other program do you know about how much money you would receive and also is AFS a very safe program? Thanks so much!
thank you so much for this video I'm trying to go to Italy in 2 years for my senior year (freshman right now) this vid cleared alot of things up. also I'm trying to get a basic of Italian. how did you learn it and would you recommend Rosetta stone
thanks for this video,, I am interested on this because of some posters of AFS ,,my question is ,, isn't depend on you on how will you longer to stay on that country or you will of the limit?
I'm in 7th grade and I told my Mom that I'm going to study korea/korean culture and be an exchange student She paused and said "start saving your moneyz then" I sat there cunfused......
Hi Keiko I really want to go on an Exchange program my junior year, but I'm kinda worried about getting there and not knowing the language. It would be awesome if you could answer a few questions I have. 1. Did you know any Italian when you got there? 2. How are you coping with the school work when you don't know The language? 3. Is it difficult to learn the language or do you actually start to learn and speak it after a few months? Because I want to go on an exchange program to learn a new language :) Love your videos Keiko keep up the good work! P.S. Sorry if it's to long
Hi Keiko! I'm from Canada & I want to become an exchange student as well for 2015-2016! I'm currently filling in my application. I wan to go to Italy just like you. I love your videos btw:)
Hej! I dont really know much about going on Exchange i Denmark, but i actually Think That you Can Go with afs Maybe? You Can find afs in your country and then search on their website to see If you Can Go to Denmark. If not then Maybe just try and google “Exchangestudent in Denmark” let me know what you find out;)
This year I'm too young to apply for next years afs exchange. So next year I'll be applying for 2016-2017 exchange. My choice is Italy, I have Italian in my veins it seems hah! For some odd reason the country seems to call for me. Lol, but this video helped me quite a bit! Thank you for that. Also do you just apply to one company, or two so you would have a better chance? Thank you, and I love your videos! P.s. I'm from Texas (around Austin)!:)😂🙌
does the school you go to before you study aboard affects if your leaving or not???and does the school also like gets involve with the program if your exchanging just to keep in track of your scores and all?!??... i want to exchange to korea but afs dosent have that place :( .... I'm still kind of confused but your video helped me understand a lot more ...please help me ...
i will go a year! i will start saving! im 12 years old, so i will save as much money as possible until i turn 15 or 16! Oh i got a whole life a head of me!!!
What advice would you give for writing a letter to the host family? I feel like my letter answers the questions but doesn't really necessarily show off my personality?
Hey, i have a question! do you get to choose your departure date? because i wanted to get a year but 17 on departure and 18 on return, is that possible?
AFS isn't that great of an organization. If you have ever heard or read a negative review about the ong you'll know what I'm talking about. It seems that it's difficult to have a bad experience once you apply to them, but the truth is, it is actually pretty common. Most problems with AFS are caused by the negligent attitude of the organization itself towards the exchange students, their biological parents and their needs. It is also common to find cases of the organization completely ignoring the biological familie's questions about the program and giving the host family freedom to do whatever they want to the student, thus putting in danger the student's safety. I'm not trying to convince anyone, I'm just warning. There is a risk to applying to this program, and AFS isn't as safe as they say. This video only shows a couple of photos showing good moments, but what about the bad ones?
Hey, Keiko! I only have a few questions, but I'll start with one in order to not bombard you with random questions. I'm hoping to go on exchange to Japan, as it is my absolute dream country! :) However, I've heard that this is the most popular country. When is the appropriate time to apply? I'm hoping to go during my 11th grade year (I'm currently in 8th grade). While it may seem a little too early to start thinking about it, I'm really nervous that I won't be able to get the country I love so much. I hope you can answer this, as I've searched everywhere for the answer, and never found it. On a side note: Thanks for the awesome video! Through this, you've managed to answer almost all of my big-time questions that itched the back of my mind. Congratulations on your acceptance to Italy! :)
Keiko: Awesome! Wow...you were allot of help! Thanks so much! :) You lived in Japan for that long? That's pretty cool! Fluent in Japanese? Even better! :D Seems your parents were just as excited about exchange as you were, even if you weren't born yet! xD That's really neat, to be honest! :) I think I will do like you did, and start my application in 9th grade :D The sooner the better, I guess ^_^ Sounds like a good way to be absolutely prepared! Thanks for the awesome advice, and I think I've got everything at least figured out, now. Finally, my anxieties are relieved! :) If I have any more questions, I'll be sure to ask you ^_^ Again, thank you so, so much for the amazing and totally helpful suggestions :) Have fun in Italy, and I look forward to hearing more of your exchange stories! :D
I have a question I am currently in 9th grade I want to go on exchange for 10th grade can that be possible ? Also how did you go about the payments how does it work ?
when should I apply if i want to go for a year abroad for my senior year? I am an upcoming junior now so when should i start my application? is it too late if Im going to be a junior and thinking about applying for a senior year exchange??
Sorry for the late comment but I hope you already applied, if you haven't I would recommend doing it one year before because it takes about a half or even the full year to get your applications processed.
I have been selected for the last round of Yes programme AFS . So what will be the questions they will be asking for the interview and on which topic had they asked you to write an essay on ?
im really excited to apply for AFS exchange student and the countries that i have on my mind and want to see is norway, finland, iceland or portugal...but the thing is i dont know will i even apply for exchange because the price is a little problem, and even if i apply will i be chosen to go abroad..im so nervous about life in the host family and in the foreign country, any advices or tips what to do?
I agree with you about price cuz really expensive but I think you shouldn't be nervous about life in the host family cuz usually they are going to treat you like family.
I really want to do AFS my junior year of high school in France. But, there are classes I want to take during my junior year that are prerequisites to classes for my senior year. Is there a way to work around this?
Hi Keiko! I'm planning on going to Italy with AFS next year, and I had some questions I wanted to ask you! Can I e-mail you? or talk to you from somewhere? Ih and just so you know.. I love your videos! :)
this is quite a old video but my main question is do you have to pay for everything straight away?? can you get like a bill and pay while you are in your country??
I definitely definitely wanna go abroad in Japan but I have bad grades and my mom said once I have good grades she would talk to me about it!!! And I also have no money ;-; (I'm going to be 16 when I go)
Hey I'm interested in going to a study abroad for the 2016 summer and maybe I just don't know how to find it but currently there's only one trip for Brazil next summer. Is it just to early to apply for next summer?
Kween Sarang I think you have to use a credit card (I'm not sure), and I'm sure that you have to pay it all at once because they're mostly paying a lot of things for you and they use the money that you paid to cover some things.
I’m about to go go highschool and I want to maybe study abroad for a while but I’m 14...I HAVE A LATE BIRTHDAY:( and I’m not sure about it, I have braces and Idk how ill keep up with my appointments
I want to study abroad in Europe or Asia.. However, I'm only 14 and only have about $300 so far.. Plus I'm not exactly sure if my parents will actually agree to this..
I want to go to Korea as an exchange student. I asked my father a few minutes ago. I asked: " Daddy!would you allow Rayana and I to become foreign exchange students?" (Rayana is my twin sister) And he said: "well yeah if it's something that's gonna benefit you guys then it's okay" I never knew he would say "okay" but on second thought my father has always been the type of person to like these sort of programs that would enhance you academically. Yay I'm so happy!! He didn't say yes but there's a higher chance of going. :)
I have no money, but I want to go to a country to learn the new language in Europe or Asia I’m fluent in English and Spanish and have a B1 level in German.
so Im turning 15 on may 23 of 2017. I would like to travel to seoul , korea ( im half asian, & would like to experience the culture & just language & everything) I am from Crowley, texas& well I think during my summer of 10th grade, i would like to do this program. But like I guess my point is that, do you get any probelms at youre new school for i guess being a transfer student?
he guys, it's my mom's account, I m 13 and in 7th grade, I m from India, I want to go to japan as an exchange student, does the payment can only be done in dollars or in rupees too, and is the exchange student program is an international exchange or the school decides the exchange, pls pls pls answer me I m confused 😕 regarding this
@seohee but people in Asia are so cute. I want to go to Japan but my parents always say that: why there? Isn't it good here? Why are you want to leave your family and your country? >Sorry because of my English... I'm not English
I have finished my first part of the application for almost 2 months now and I have heard anything back should I call afs or email them about the 2nd part
So I want to go to Japan as an exchange student in a program called AFS and it said for 15-18 year old ( I think) anyway--- I want to go after I graduate which I will be 18. I'm planning on going for a year but I'm gonna turn 19 while I'm in Japan. Do u think it's okay??? And will there be test and homework you have to do?
For any people out there trying to convince their parents to let them exchange, I really recommend for you to say why the country you want to move to will help you learn and exceed your college goal, for example I talked to my parents about how Japan is rated #4 on Math & Science which would help me reach my goal on becoming intelligent enough to study as an astronomer, I wouldn't recommend telling them that you want to go to that country because you either want to find cute girls/boys or because you want to meet your favorite musician or band, and lastly pick a right moment to tell them, don't talk about exchanging when your parents are in a hurry or when they don't have time, I hoped this helped!
lol my flex is having parents who would support any academic endeavor I want while not making me try to convince them 😆
My dad wants me to be his freaking maid bro he would NOT allow me🔥
If anyone else wondering about the process of becoming an exchange student in high school, I posted a video about the entire process!
is there any way not to pay like $1000000? I'm 13 but I want to save up for this if possible but my family doesn't have much money😒
+Ai Himitsu im 13 too and also really want to go to japan when im 15!maybe we meet one day in japan^-^!

I’m applying for nsliy this fall and it’s free. But it’s highly competitive and hard to get into. It’s a very safe program and they also pay for your plane to orientation/ to host country and back home. I’ve heard very good reviews about it and I personally recommend
I definitely agree about the email you receive that tells you "you are in", happiness all over me ! (;
Thank you! This is the most informative video I have found about going on an exchange. I want to be an exchange student to france🇫🇷

Greatly considering studying abroad through AFS! Seems like such an exceptional opportunity!
Hello Keiko, I only have a few questions if you could please help me answer them.

I really want to do foreign exchange to Japan and I decided that I wanted to do it since I was 11 so I started to learn, I'm still learning and my family supports my decision, except my mom
My dad says I'm smart enough and everything
My sister says the same thing
But my mom is completely against it because of the family and I'm always trying to convince her but she doesn't want me to go at all
I'm still investigating since I have two years
And I'm still learning Japanese and am studying a bit on the culture
But I hope I get there
i found it very useful , good article about afs now i have ideas what to do for my 2nd part
I know this video is old but I’m very interested in becoming a foreign exchange student to Germany from the United States. How would you recommend I bring it up with my parents? It's January. Their deadline is March 1st. What do you think my chances are of getting my first choice country, or even my second choice?
Shit I wish I knew about this when I was in highschool. I would’ve studied my ass off just to go to japan for a year 😂😂😂
Hey Keiko love your videos! I'm very interested in becoming a foreign exchange student and my parents are very open to the idea. I'm in 7th grade and I told my Mom that I'm going to study korea/korean culture and be an exchange student

Love your videos Keiko keep up the good work!
P.S. Sorry if it's to long
What made you decide to become an exchange student? And how difficult was it leaving family and friends?
Hi Keiko! I'm from Canada & I want to become an exchange student as well for 2015-2016! I'm currently filling in my application. I wan to go to Italy just like you. I love your videos btw:)

i will go a year! i will start saving! im 12 years old, so i will save as much money as possible until i turn 15 or 16! Oh i got a whole life a head of me!!!

I have been selected for the last round of Yes programme AFS . So what will be the questions they will be asking for the interview and on which topic had they asked you to write an essay on ?
RayanM how did u convince your parents to let you go?
Does AFS include South Korea or Greece?
I'm pretty sure they include both, you can check on their website to double check.

If you have 3 choices of where you want to go then how do you know all those languages? The language that I'm learning isn't taught at school.
do you have to know the language of the host country your going to?
PAYMENT!
How do you pay? and
Do you have to pay all of the money up front, or can you pay a little at a time monthly?
Kween Sarang I think you have to use a credit card (I'm not sure), and I'm sure that you have to pay it all at once because they're mostly paying a lot of things for you and they use the money that you paid to cover some things.
