My advice is, suck up to your parents, make them think you deserve to go on exchange and don't give them any reason to say no. show them that you're independent, do your research, show them that you are well informed come up with plans!!! be prepared for all the questions they ask so you don't stutter or hesitate, that tells them that you know what you're doing, make them trust you, be the good kid :)

I totally agree with you about showing them that you really want it. My parents were very concerned about exchange and just didnt think that the benefits of the exchange would outweigh the risks. I think if I wasn't constantly pushing, improving my language, taking them to info evenings, showing them pamphlets, organising meetings and talking to my teachers about how my schooling would be affected; then I probably wouldn't be going on exchange this year.
I found that them talking to other parents who had children who had gone on exchange really put their nerves at ease and they were able to talk through a lot of concerns which are mutual among parents with kids on exchange.
I have a question for you as well. Did you find that when you first came or even still now that people try to practice their English on you?
I love watching your videos by the way. They really make me excited for my exchange :)

Hey Keiko. So I am an American- Moroccan teen and I am a Muslim. I was wondering whether you have noticed a lot of Muslims or Arabs in Italy because I was considering going to Italy for an exchange program but I want to know if it'll be like France or Belgium where there are a lot of north Africans already so the Italian teens won't be open to being friendly or welcoming to me once they know I'm moroccan. Unfortunately most Moroccans I know in France have told me French people don't exactly love Arabs or Moroccans so I was wondering if it was the same case for Italians. If you could ask your friends or something that would be amazing. Love you!

I have been trying to convince my parents to let me study abroad for more than 2 years. At first they were completely against it and were terrified. I slowly tried to explain them everything and they are now ok with it. However there is one major problem..money.. one year of studying abroad is around 10000$ which is a lot. We are not a wealthy family and for them, that is hard to pay off. To get a scholarship you have to be A+ student and have to have schools approval and recommendation. Is there hope? Is there something I can do?

My dad isn't interested in this stuff so when I ask him he just doesn't pay attention xD I don't think he cares if I wanted to go on exchange. I mean if it was just me and him he probably would let me. But my mom won't let me go to be an exchange student because I'm the youngest and I'm her baby and if I wasn't with her all the time she'll be all sad and yada yada and I'm just like UGHHH xD One time I was at my cousins who lived like 30 mins to an hour away and stayed at their house for 3 days and when I came back home my sisters told me my mom was crying for me and she missed me(which is really unusual because my mom is as hard as a rock and rarely ever cries) xD This is just so unfair because I love my mom and I'm so happy to have such a cherishing and loving mother who has the biggest heart and is so caring and funny, but sometimes the smothering is too much and I wanna be able to do something new, not stay by her side 24/7. She even told me yesterday that I'll always be her baby(and what she means by that is I'll always literally be a baby, and I'm 16) so it just proves she doesn't look at me as mature, she still looks at me as someone who needs to be taken care of all the time. tbh I'm not complaining because she doesn't let me do chores xD but like I said, sometimes it can be too much and prevent me from exploring and trying new things.

I've been wanting to be an exchange student in the USA since I was twelve, I'm sixteen now, and throughout those years I mentioned it a lot of times.. So now my parents said they would allow me to be an exchange student, but I have to finish high school in my own country first. The only problem with this is, that there's this law in the USA that you can't go to high school when you've already finished six years of high school in another country. So what I'd like to do, is go next year. So basically I'd finish 11th grade here, do a year of high school in the US, then come back for 12th grade here. But my parents want me to finish high school here first. How can I convince them to let me do that exchange year after 11th grade?
