    Speaking as someone who is considering hosting an exchange student at some point, and whose husband is a youth pastor, I would honestly say that I wouldn't be expecting a visitor to be giving at church on a regular basis. Things are also different now with Covid, and my church now has wooden boxes in the back of the sanctuary instead of passing an offering plate, so there might also be less pressure than you maybe felt.

    • @honey27003
      @honey27003  2 года назад +3

      Yes definitely! I always recommend that exchange students at least try and go to church with their host family. Who knows they might like it or find that it helps them bonds with their host family or other people

    Hi, my name is Kendrique Steptore and I'm a fashion student at Louisiana State University (LSU). I've been allowed to study fashion abroad this summer in Paris France. It's no secret, Paris is the ideal place for anyone interested in learning and specializing in art, architecture, design, the French language and of course, anything that is related to fashion. Not only is Paris the home of Haute Couture, but it's also where many of the biggest names in fashion got their start. This program is valuable to me because it’ll help me better myself as a designer through hands-on instructions, learning to speak French, and thinking like an Haute Couture designer. I believe this amazing opportunity will not only impact my career but is the stepping stone in starting my career. Me being a college student, the opportunities this program offers are once in a lifetime. Not only do I get to live in Paris for a month, but I get to study at one of Paris's top fashion schools, and learn the French language, design techniques and cuisine. I also get to experience Men’s Fashion Week Paris and work backstage at Men’s Fashion Week. With these opportunities, my opportunities as a designer are limitless. This program will assist me in growing as a designer, and a person by introducing me to a completely new culture and pushing me to reach new heights. Anything helps.

    Hey Laura!! Is it possible to do part time jobs when you are in your exchange year ?? And what kind of part time jobs does our visa permits us to do?? Can you please reply because being able to pay for our own expenses would be great in a different country as currency would be different too.

    • @honey27003
      @honey27003  3 года назад +3

      Hey :) If you are a high school student, working part time could be quite difficult. I don´t know all of the legal stuff behind it but most organizations won´t let you work when you´re a student. I know in college you can usually work up to 20 hours on campus but you have to get a social security number and pay taxes. In order to work are probably going to need a car or at least a bike to get there and back as well. Especially as a high school student, I don´t recommend working because you´ll be in school until 3p.m. plus workouts and then you´re gonna need your rest. If you can´t afford all of the costs of an exchange year I recommend the following things: 1) look out for scholarships especially on your givernment´s or the organizations` websites 2) work part time in your home country and save up before you leave 3) choose to do a work and travel or a volunteering program instead of a high school exchange because it´s much easier to work then

    Did you save money before going to U.S and if you did how? Also how much roughly did you needed money for the whole year?

    • @honey27003
      @honey27003  2 года назад +2

      So I got a full ride scholarship called the PPP which is for Germans and Americans. This is why I didn't have to save much as they paid around 10,000 Euros for me. I would say all of the other expenses for clothing, doing things on the weekend and little trips were no more than 300 Euros per month. That totally depends on how you live, though. If you want to travel constantly and go out to eat multiple times a week you will need more and if you don't you might need less. It's mostly the roughly 10,000-13,000 Euros that you have to pay for the flights, insurance and organization fees. The rest will mostly be paid for by your host family. It's then only the little things you need to pay for. In my case, my parents and grandparents helped me out as I was too young to work. However, it is smart to get little jobs you can do depending on your age and your country's legal restrictions. If you are too young to work, ask your parents whether you can do chores for money like cleaning the house etc. You can also set up a go fund me or ask your parents whether you can participate in a flea market. If you cannot afford any of this, look for scholarships or consider doing pother programs like au pair or volunteer work when you are older. There is always something you can do to make sure you get your abroad experience.

    • @honey27003
      @honey27003  2 года назад +3

      Hi! First of all, it's amazing that you are considering becoming a host family. I would say that you just need to be aware of the fact that it is an additional person joining your household. Your electricity and water bills are going to be slightly higher and you will want to budget in a bit more for groceries. How host families and exchange students divide the cost is something that should be discussed in each individual case, however, you should provide them with the basics (i.e. most food items, shelter, electricity etc). I always bought any sort of clothing, snacks, school supplies etc. for myself. I would go out to eat with my host family once a week and since they always paid for everybody it felt really nice that they included me in that as well. However, if your student goes out with friends, they of course pay for themselves. You don't need to give them any sort of an allowance. So I'd say schedule in a bit more money but don't worry.

      @@honey27003 awesome. We're 35, so we're younger. I have experience working with teens though. We don't have kids of our own. Do most exchange students prefer having host siblings? We are hoping to wait until we get a slightly bigger house in a couple years. And we can spare the extra expense, it isn't an issue. Do students ever go on any trips with their exchange families?

    • @honey27003
      @honey27003  2 года назад +3

      @@bookishmillennial5297 Hey Katie, host families come in all shapes and sizes. I think the only thing that matters is that you are excited and willing to provide them with a save and loving home. So host siblings are definitely not a must especially as you are still so young. I think it could be a very fun dynamic. I think any exchange student would love the opportunity to travel with their host family. I would be careful about international travel because that could potentially cause issues with their visa but showing them a few beautiful spots in your country will make for amazing memories.

      Hey :) First of all don´t give up. You should check out our government´s webpage for any student scholarships and exchange student organisations (EF, AIFS etc.) because they usually have a scholarship program. You can get catalogues sent for free that include information on scholarships among other things. you could also ask your family and neighbors to earn money doing chores in the house and the garden or take on a summer job. I also found a link that could potentially be helpful to find more scholarship options.
