hello, just wanted to say that Kevin's cello boxing is how the Pentatonix found Kevin to start with. He recorded a video of himself cello boxing while working on his pre med degree and posted it on RUclips, where it went viral. At that time, Scott had asked Mitch and Kirsty to come compete in season 3 of the Sing Off, and a friend had introduced them to Avi, but they needed a beat boxer, saw the RUclips video, and the rest is history.

Kevin has played the cello for years and years. When he was younger, before Pentatonix, he entered a cello competition and came in 2nd. Yo Yo Ma was the judge and he said Kevin's cello piece was the most imaginative.

Hi, Tauri, so sorry to hear about your loss but lovely to see you back again. I have been following PTX for probably 6-7 years and it stuns me that they seem to keep getting better. They have given Matt some great chances to show his amazing voice, I always love to hear Mitch when he shows the power of his lower range, Scott is like a vocal Swiss army knife - high, low, gritty or silky smooth, he can do it all, but KO is the revelation here. It's always a treat to have his cello in the mix but it's so rare to hear him get a chance to demonstrate his vocal abilities. Thanks for covering this and for covering "O Holy Night". All the best!

Kirstie - All right boys...voices and cello up,
Mitch - LoOove remains - MiniMitchSlap
Scott - Blue Eyed Soul Dragon Drive-by
Matt - Renames song 'Falsetto from a Bass'
Kevin - "Hold my bow".. "BaaaaBYY!!!!"....
Note all of the members except Kevin just might have a greater connection with this song than they know....we would have to ask their parents. This was some serious baby making music in the 90s....

While Scott's solo introduction certainly startles a lot of people, NO ONE is ready for Kevin's cello solo and ending "Bay-bee!" vocal surprise! It's really an amazing performance from everyone!

Hey Tauri! All good! How can you not be moved by your reaction to this group's music, which has already brought you to tears on other occasions! They are a delight in both their voices and the band! The arrangements are sensational! It must be a lot of work to record this with so many voices flowing! Very handsome! And what about your reaction? Man! It's a lot of emotion to watch you here, from this side! May your joy last throughout the week! He takes care of himself! 🌷

Kevin is also a super star cellist who has placed in Yo Yo Mas international competition. He also plays saxophone (look up the video it’s on RUclips as well) and piano.

Wonderful reaction to this incredible performance. It's been one of my top five favorite songs since Seal released it, and when I heard Pentatonix was doing it I was so excited. They only enhance the experience of an amazing song.

Your reaction to"O Holy Night" xame up on my you tube feed. Im so sorry about your grandmother. I know how hard it is to be away drom family at a time like that. I didn't comment on your other reaction bc I wanted to get to this one. Kevin is literally genius level intelligence. He graduated premed from yale with a degree in eastern Asian studies. He speaks Mandarin fluently. Matts dad was a music pastor at their church so hes been singing since he was 3. He graduated from Berkeley College. He always dreamed if being in PTX. There is a video called "intro to Matt Sallee where the members talk about him. It also has footage of him singing as well. Scott says everytime Matt steps on the stage it is proof that dreams come true.
They are touring this summer is you want to see them live. I haven't yet but hope to soon. Sorry for the long comment.

I’m so sorry to hear about your grandma passing. My biggest regret is not discovering Pentatonix before my grandma passed. I would’ve loved sharing them with her. I do get to share them with my uncle and my husband and my boys.

I'm so sorry about your loss. I lost both my grandmothers (and grandfather's) many years ago (over a decade for the grandma's and even longer for the grandpa's, my dad has been gone about 26 years now and mom has been gone 4 years) and I know exactly how much it hurts. The extreme pain eventually passes but you never stop missing them. 😢
That said, I just wanted to point out that Kevin was playing the cello, beatboxing AND looping! All at once! If you look closely and listen even more closely you'll notice his looping pedals at his feet and hear beats even when his lips aren't moving or extra beats he's not making. That man is just unbelievably talented. 🤯

I never liked this song. Before, I mean. This is arguably their best LIVE performance ever. True, there is some post. I don't know about pitch correction, but there IS some post-production. This may be live, but the final version is not "raw." For post to be this good, there HAD to be an incredibly good product to work with. THAT is the essence of PTX. These days I really focus more on the reactors than PTX because I have heard the piece numerous times. And YOU, as always, bring a kind of empathy and sincerity that just makes me smile! Great reaction, Tauri!

I've been blessed to get to see them live 6 times, starting Labor Day weekend in 2012.
