Little fun fact about the Lotus Eaters- in Epic, they are depicted as these cute little teddy bear-looking creatures called Winions. (The word is a combination of “wind” and “minions”. It was based on creatures in a later saga, but now the term has come to mean the entire fan base. If you ever go back for the animatics, their official design is depicted in a creator named Mircsy’s videos for “Open Arms”, “Warrior of the Mind”, and two songs directly after that).
@@PatrolNationprobably because they pretty much *are* like the Aliens in Toy Story, or the Minions in Despicable Me. When I first saw the animatics, my mind immediately went to the concept of the Karpoi (grain spirits in Greek mythos), particularly the way Rick Riordan presents them, but in the case of Epic, “if karpoi were st0ners”. 😂
The choppy sounds in Warrior Of The Mind indicate that Odysseus is in “Quick Thought” talking to Athena instantaneously so no time has passed in the real world. And there was a flashback to when he first met her.
ooo you caught the personalized instruments! Nice! Every major character has a signature instrument; Athena's is the piano, while Odysseus' is the guitar, which is electric when he is being determined, cunning, angry, or fighting - and acoustic when he is being vunerable. Jorge hasn't officially confirmed Eurylochus' instrument (at least I don't think he has?), but a popular fandom interpretation is that Eurylochus' instrument is the men on the ship - he is the voice of the people.
“Eurylochus” *pauses* “I had eurylochus, but we’ll get to that” 😂😂 I started watching your videos on the wisdom saga and started back tracking to see all your reactions to get your input and your views on things. Love your work man!
Please dont see the animatics until you finish all the sagas ! You re so unique.. you keep up with everything and have too much knowledge of the odyssey! I love your videos and cant get enough of you enjoying THE MUSIC ONLY
@@khoinguyen5004 one could argue that Eurylochus raps - just the human instrument - when he represents the crew and can adopt the instruments of other characters - such as Odysseus - when his role shifts away from being the general representative of the troops
Honestly still kind of a dick. He doubted his captain. He opened the bag, making him just as (if not more accountable) for the death of over 400 men. If he didn't open the bag they would have been home before ruthlessness even had a chance to happen.
Worth noting that EPIC's Eurylochus is wildly different from the Odyssey's. I'd recommend looking at his character with an open mind, because he's basically a different dude with the same name.
It’s always nice when the reactors I watch have a slightly deeper appreciation cause they know the subject matter. I love your videos man and like that you’ll do it as a whole saga cause it’s kinda like eating cake. As a whole it’s a great thing but taking a bit of the cake each week is a little bit too much of a length between it.
A musically fun fact about Warrior of the Mind. In the chorus when Athena first sings it, her vocal goes so high. Then, when he meets Odysseus and they sing together “Warrior of the Mind”. Odysseus goes up and down with the vocals, meanwhile Athena still maintains the high notes. Then, in the last “Warrior of the Mind”, Athena signs along in the way Odysseus is singing it: up and down. This like a meaning that he recognized him as his warrior, his student and Odysseus like her mentor. I love that detail and hope it understands lol. Love your reaction! Can’t wait to see the next saga :)!
Gods, I swear, hearing all the men knowing what happens to them in this, the first time I listened to it, it didn't click, but every time after that when they do the waiting lines, just full on sobbing. Don't even get me started on Polites!
They are definitely structured to be consumed one saga at a time; think of a saga as a whole scene in a stage play - you wouldn't want to break up a scene because it would make the entire story too difficult to follow. As a whole, the Troy Saga introduces us to Odysseus and his need to transition from 10 years of war to navigating the treacherous post-war path home. It establishes that he was a cheerful child and a mildly more cautious adult, but defined throughout by his tendency to see life decisions as chess moves. Finally, we see the tension represented by his two closest advisors: his second-in-command Eurylochus who recommends ruthlessness to get home as quickly as possible, versus his best friend Polites who recommends civility and the values of being humane (to put the war behind them and resume life as people, not animals). Each subsequent saga will be a stage in the tug of war between those two philosophic positions and how those experiences inform the person Odysseus is at the end of each one.
I loved that the rest of the saga came up entirely as one video only. Would love to watch to the next sagas as one video as well. About the animatics, I know that everyone talks about them being like... Canonic and all that, but until now I haven't seen any youtuber just listening to the songs like you are doing and, honestly, I like to see the reaction to the lyrics only, you know? Of course, I would enjoy also some reactions of the animatics, but I will admit here that I really do prefer some... Pure reaction to the content of the song per se and would get a little.. Sad if it became only the song with the animatics from now on, so I hope that, at least the first impressions keep on being like you're doing right now, it's great, I like to see your reactions with only the music and showing some of what you know about the story behind it purely on your own. But, of course, if you react to the animatics as well, I'll be totally here for it
Me too !!! So many of them react only to the animatics even though they start good by reacting to the lyrics, music , callbacks , but after 2 or 3 songs they only react to the animatics and forget the genius behind the project ! So i really am happy about him listening only to the audio ❤
Originally there was supposed to be a song for Ismaris but it got cut out. You can still listen to the unfinished version of the song on youtube and you can see that it was very inspired by Hamilton (this is very early so Jorge hasn't really got his style down just yet)
I love that your already familiar with the general story. I normally prefer when reactors react to the animatics for their initial listens because they don't quite get what's happening in certain moments without the visual clues. (which is fair since this is theoretically supposed to also be visual on a stage along with the songs), but if you're already at least somewhat familiar with the story it can be easier to fill in the blanks so you can just focus on the music without being distracted by possible variations in artists interpretations. However when you get a chance, either on your own, or a secondary reaction I definitely recomend watching some animatics the fandom has made some absolute fire ones.
I really liked your individual reaction/ analasis videos of each song, you were able to really go indepth about what things you liked and how the music, story and emotion played a role in the song and how you felt about it, it really was intresting also because of how knowladgable you are with the odyssea. I understand doing saga by saga because you get to have to full context back to back plus its more content quicker for the audience but I will miss your full thoughts at the end of the video :]
Nice reaction. Can't wait for next Saga, especially new versions, choir vocal of crew in new version is awesome. Also Eurylochus... With time i hate him less and less even in original Odyssey, his decisions arent necessaryly "heroic" and thus often opposite of Odysseus', but they are more of "what regular person would do" and seeing how crew backs him up sometimes it checks. And in Epic he's my favourite character after Odysseus so far (6 released sagas)
I'd love to see your reactions to some of the most popular animatics as well (There's normally one or two MAJORLY loved ones per song by the fandom of the musical)
Polites doesn't really have a personality in The Odyssey other than being Odysseus's "most precious friend" (or something like that). He gets mentioned twice in the whole Odyssey, and I think he only speaks when he tries to convince Odysseus to leave Circe's island after they have stayed there for a year. Also, he dies to Scylla or Zeus.
I love Eury’s voice actor but agree i dont like that character I love the fact that you know the story and dont need the animatics to go with it. Maybe a second run though after you catch up that way it’s consistent. (I believe you also suggested something like that before.) anyway only 5 more (released) sagas to go
The pause just to say “I hate Eurylochus” got me 😂
Polites: greet the world with open arms 🥰🤗
Athena: and I took that personally

Each main character is identified by an instrument. Odysseus is various guitars; Athena is the piano.
not Eurylochous. Theres a reason for that
Penelope is violin 🎻
Eurylochus “instrument” is the Crew when they are present. They are usually backing him as a diegetic choir

@@MichaelSullivanCincinnatux yup. He can adapt other instruments into his own, like in Mutiny where he adapts Odys guitar
This version of Eurylochus is less of an cowardly ass and more of a pragmatic realist, so he’s a general improvement over Homers version.
Errrr just wait out on that one 😂
