The video is labeled to be on the Vevo live stage. I see pedals on the floor in front of Kevin which he uses on his own videos which may be adding extra recorded beats. This stage is used by a series of videos by various artist all labeled as "live".
Opeth
Have you done Pure Imagination/Christmas time is here? Fabulous❤
Morisette Amon Wish Bus Live Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw.
A theme song from a drama series Broken Marriage Vow.
SB19 Wish Bus Live Liham.
Oh Holy Night please they also just released this!!!
Oh this was recorded live and I saw them live this past Monday night, they sounded exactly like this recording. Oh man, it was an awesome show!! ❤
So jealous! I hope I’m lucky enough to see them live someday! 🤗
I saw them in march in Australia omg they r so amazing.
Agreed Saw them live last Saturday and they sounded the same.....
I was at the same show. It was awesome!!
@@karenrobinson2962 - You from Greenville? I took my best friend out for dinner on her birthday and surprised her going to San Souci Arena and when she saw the sign says Pentatonix she was ecstatic. Like I said, it was an awesome concert and my friend loved every minute of it.
If you listen to the studio recording the vocals are different - this is live - yes they are THAT good
Recorded LIVE for VEVO. Yes they are that good! Clue…watch Mitch and Kirsten when Scott comes in with his “Baby”… he blows their ear coms and they have to readjust them.
I noticed that
At 12:05 in this video, you'll notice that the drum sounds come in even though Kevin's mouth isn't moving. This performance is definitely at least partially prerecorded and lipsynced.
Not true. Kevin is looping the sounds. Look down at his feet and you will see he is using a looper
This is supposed to be recorded live from VEVO's studio. They do these with a lot of groups. Pentatonix is Never tuned. They are that good.
Yeah, Kevin has a microphone because he’s been beatboxing the whole time WHILE playing his electric cello!😱
You're wrong. Pentatonix doesn't lie. This was recorded live in a studio. Methinks you need to see them live.
Pentatonix has 8 Christmas albums and often have a song that isn't a typical Christmas carol. There is a cute Tik-Tok of Scott searching for a Christmas song that they haven't covered. Then he started searching for songs with "winter" or "snow". Hence, Kiss From A Rose.
He told us at their concert that he was in CVS and heard Kiss over the overhead sound system and heard the word ‘snow’ and said that good enough. It’s now a Christmas song declared by PTX. 😉
Kevin is celloboxing in addition to the singing, thus the mic.
This is "live" in the fact it is not lip syncing over a pre recorded track, like traditional music videos.
Yes I hate people saying that. Gettin old
No, it's live, as in "Live."
I think this is their BEST ever. Kirsty did the Christmas song, Please, Santa, Please, that she co-wrote with Kevin. It's awesome, too.
If you want more Kirsten, I'd suggest their mashup of, "Pure Imagination/ Christmas time is here". They all kill it.
Fully agree with you, but her name is Kirstin/Kirstie!
Kristen is also epic in their brand new video, "Oh Holy Night".
@@rogerroger5171 Kirstin also sounds great on Please Santa Please.
@@ashtech5359 sorry for the typo.
This definitely IS being sang live, there may be background mixing to make it sound more full but they def are singing live
Mitch is NOT TUNED. You need to see them live. You probably know Scott married his long-time boyfriend Mark this past July. He's been doing a lot of solo songwriting, sometimes collaborating with Mark, and has released a bunch of works. He won an Emmy for choral directing this year and has been working on an original musical. So yes, he's been working on his art like crazy.
There is a short skitt of Scott frantically typing away on a laptop, looking for songs with snow in the title, and getting on a hit on this song.
This is live. It is not tuned. They have a tradition of picking a non-Christmas song on their album, and it becomes a Christmas song from now on.
The reason Kevin has a mic is because he is beatboxing while playing the cello. Also, if this was not a live recording it would not be listed as live. Their voices do not need tweeking, they sound like they sound. Not fair for you to criticize when you are judging without knowing.
there may be some real time mixing (pretty vevo has state of the art equipment) but PTX would NEVER lie about something being recorded live because they ALWAYS back that up with how they sound in person and in concert and would thus be way too easy to prove otherwise 😊
Pentatonix is known for including on their Christmas albums songs that are not actual Christmas songs (such as Hallelujah). Apparently they picked this one just because it had the word SNOW in it.
They just released “Oh Holy Night” this morning.
I’m sure you’ve already heard this comment, haha, but- it’s 100% recorded live. Not tuned. I haven’t looked (apologies) but if you haven’t, try Hallelujah live. I know you reacted to the video (loved the reaction!) but I think that song helps a lot of people realize that this is just pure otherworldly talent. Love your reactions, love your voice, love your energy!
It says it is a live performance. I don't think they would lie! AndcI saw thm live on Monday & saw them do this from the front row! It sounds exactly the same.
This is live in that they RECORDED the audio WHILE they filmed the video. But yes, the audio was then mixed and mastered after the fact. So it IS technically a live performance, that was then put into post production and polished.
Not true. That is not how LIVE VEVO recordings work. For them, live means live. What was recorded then is what you're hearing now. VEVO recorded it live at their location.
@@vidsorama2 yes that's what I said. What you're seeing and hearing was recorded at the same time. But the audio was still mastered afterwards. Doesn't take ANYTHING away from their fantastic performance AT ALL. Trust me, I know they sound exactly the same live, I've seen them 10 times and counting. This sounded just as good live the two times I saw them on this tour.
When has Mitch ever needed tuning? Wonders of nature. ❤
"Did you know, that when it snows" Snow = Christmas
If you hear the song from their new album, it sounds different than this. Scott does not do the run at the end of his solo on the recording and his end part is different. "O Holy Night" of theirs just came out on video. The Kirstie solos are great!
Nope, its live and not tuned---this how they sound live.
They literally as you uploaded this released a new video for O Holy Night! It’s absolutely stunning!
I think it's funny how people will see something like this and hear Kevin's beatboxing and think it sounds too crisp and clean to be live. But if you go to a live performance, like I was at earlier this month, you actually see it happen in real life right in front of you. That's when you realize, this probably was live and being recorded in that studio that they're standing in.
This is live ....they are that good
“We’ll be the judge of that” 🙄 it very clearly sounds different from the studio recording. VEVO always has top notch sound production
Literally wanted to click off so bad when you kept saying it wasn’t live 🤦🏼♀️
Same!
This is such a fluid masterpiece! ❤ They just received their FIFTH Grammy Award nomination for their 2022 Christmas album! Well deserved! 😊 And this WAS recorded live in the Vemo sound room! There was a sound engineer, that's all. Listen to some of the fan recordings from their current live concerts! Yeppers. Sounds the same. I've often said that the hardest job in a PTX concert is that of the sound engineer! 💖
Haha, Scott chose it because it has the word snows in it
While I might think there was some post production to blend the volume of the different voices, you've done enough of this group's music to know that they do not do auto tuning.
Also, singing "live"does not necessitate an audience. It just means that they didn't record separate tracks that were all brought together for a studio recording. This one, the same as their evolution videos was done in one take with them singing it live on the mics they are holding. In a studio, certainly. But still a live take. Probably with some post production.
This was really epic. This was recorded live and probably mixed.
They do a mashup of Christmas Time is Here and Pure Imagination that is COMPLETELY different that this. Really ethereal.
"Did you know, when it snows" is the line that they said made it a Xmas song
It’s not tuned… there are a couple noticeable parts where the intonation is not perfect, one is shortly after Scott enters the first syllable of the word stranger. It gets fixed quickly.
Do they take advantage of sound mixing features like reverb, yeah.
Does Kevin use looping features with his microphone/ cello, yes. Is there a possibility some of that isn’t controlled by him but is by a sound guy, sure. However, still live.
Kevin does his own looping. The only thing the sound guy has to do is handle reverb … (source: I know the sound guy!)
Every Pentatonix Christmas album features songs that have nothing to do with Christmas. They use songs with winter themes (like Let It Go or Sweater Weather), religious songs (like Joyful, Joyful or Amazing Grace) or songs that are just happy and which they feel fit the holiday season (like My Favorite Things or Seasons of Love). This one was picked because it has the word snow in it. Yes, it's a stretch, but it's a fun idea.
Kirsty not only leads a whole song (that she wrote), but she also has solos on the other 2 Christmas videos they've released this year, Pure Imagination/Christmas Time is here and O Holy Night (which came out this morning)
Ok I'm out it's live recorded. And u missed the proof. Did you not SEE both kirsty and mitch jump to adjust their earpieces because Scott belted out Baby! When they weren't prepared or expecting it. You clearly have never heard them live if you don't know they can self mix. So clearly you don't pay attention so I'm not finishing this reaction. Out.
This time of year no sponsorship money available but you NEED to react to there arrangement of O"Holy Night. You may need a drink after that one! Seriously!
Agreed!
Scott is an amazing singer since forever! You need to watch all the Sing Off presentations, in that competition they showed all the abilities they have. They never stop trying new things.
I played in an Orchestra from 5th grade thru 1st 2 years of college. Sometimes a recording was live w/o Audiece. Sometimes recorded live w/ Audience during a concert. I thought both situations are live?
I can't agree with you...yes, they've all improved over the past 10 years, BUT Kirstie has gain so much confidence and increased in her singing 1,000% !!!!!!!
BTW...it is LIVE like at a concert, although there might be using sound engineer !!
BTW (once again),...Kevin has a mic because he was also BEATBOXING during the song !!
I know someone who was part of the pre-production crew. He's one of the most respected names in event production, worked for Sony Records, his credentials are legit. Obviously he can't say if anything was done in post, but he said they did sound that great when recording this video.
Have you seen their daft punk live in a room with no mics and an iPhone recording? It’s phenomenal! And if you’ve watched the original video, you’d think they’d need tons of studio-ing to get it to sound that way, but truly all that does is make them sound fuller. I preferred this performance over their studio recorded version too.
You should definitely react to their Daft punk live performance to get just a taste for their power. You’ll know which live one when you see it. It’s completely barebones!
Though, I do think there must be some kind of small backing track here to make them sound a little fuller. Still, it’s definitely live.
Another CRAZY live one is their cover of prayer. It’s literally mesmerizing.
I smell Grammy number 4……..Judy D
I saw them in Hersey, Pa at the beginning of the month. And I can tell you YES, they sounded this good!!! It was incrediable!! Loved their show!!
From what I’ve read…it was in Vevo studio and recorded live. I don’t think they meant to seem disingenuous, just that Vevo invited s artists to perform in their studio.
Also check out their new MV of O Holy Night!!!
Scott was searching for songs with the word snow in it. That is how they picked this song.
Your faces tho 😬😬. So yeah, Scott has ALWAYS been AMAZING.
Maybe his voice is not your cup of tea because your comments in the past have been around the same, but I feel Scott is the vocal glue of the group, plus it helps that he has an very impressive vocal range.
His voice has gotten stonger and matured as has Kirstie's.
Matt has become more comfortable in his role plus showing off that he is more than just a bass.
Kevin took us to THE MOON with his part🌙
Excellent remake of a classic song! They did an amazing job! Fantastic reaction Maggie!
I'm honestly starting to believe that she is just a low key hater of Pentatonix. This is like every video she tries to down play what they do. This was clearly live. Was toned up in any way. No enhancement. This is how they sing. Yes they can make all these sounds. See them live in person and you would understand that
It IS live!
Wow that was just an incredible performance ❤
By saying this is definitely not live just puts them down that they are not that good to sound this good live do your your research before you use the word "definitely "
Agree. Sounding reeeaaaallll arrogant
Agreed
I agree it is minimizing their skill. And is arrogant.
Some people were born with the skills… other needs to learn. For the second ones it’s difficult to understand how the first ones can do theirs things so easily…
Amen
I have always listened to Seal sing the original, but this... This song just tops it all. Amazing.❤
It is live ! You jealous 😂
I saw an interview with Scott in which he mentioned that this song has a reference to snow. That was enough for him to consider this a Christmas-related song. Go figure. This was recorded live. Period. These guys are freaks of nature and they are that good.
Amazing reaction, Maggie! Love Pentatonix! Fantastical version of this song! Listen to it all the time!💖🥰💖
Thank you so much!! You are Fantastical on every level!! Happy Holidays! 💖🥰💖
Love this song
I'm not a music professional by any means, but I was fortunate enough to have a number of classically trained and passionate choral directors that instilled a love for singing in me. Your videos help remind me that even though music is a universal language experienced individually, there are some reactions that are universal - like goosebumps and shivers from the power of a well-blended PTX arrangement, or a ridiculously well-phrased register transition. Please keep doing what you're doing to help normalize expressing wonder and joy at beautifully constructed vocals and well-performed music overall!
They looked for a song with SNOW in it and this does 😂
Pentatonix music always lifts my soul and coaxes my endorphins into action !
I think it's a Christmas song because it comes from the Batman Forever (1995) movie which takes place around Christmas time
This is live!
What I find interesting is that the owner of the channel has a big “no comment” to the rebuttals of her claim that this isn’t live, and she claims they are tuned! I know these folks - they don’t need to be tuned. They wouldn’t do it if someone told them to, even in a studio situation they would just do it again until it’s perfect, and that’s assuming they didn’t get it in one take.
Okay so sorry, but you need to check yourself, "live" does not mean performed in front of an audience. Gosh feel sorry for all those artists during the Pandemic who performed "Live" yet had not audience. A "live" performance can be performed out of a professional studio space such as the Vivo Studio. And saying "Mitch's voice is tuned" when he can sing the exact same tones in a room with no mic or speakers...yeah that's reaching. Not sure why you seem to need to "correct" PTX with your few years of knowledge compared to their amazing amount of music knowledge...you did it on "The Prayer" as well when you claimed they hit a wrong note on a chord. Yeah they don't do that, they plan out those chords to be exactly what they want, and they don't include wrong notes. Not everyone can sing as good as the members of PTX, no matter how hard they try or what school they go to...sorry.
This is live
if you really want to see how much they've improved you should check out some of their performances from the sing off.
It is live. You need to go see them in concert.
My husband and I were front row this past Saturday in Knoxville, TN. There were great and sang Kiss from a Rose. Scott told the crowd that after you have done as many Christmas songs as they have it's hard to come up with new song. He went to say he was at CVS and heard Seal's Kiss from a Rose and it had the word snow in it. He went hum snow Christmas. That was how Kiss From a Rose became a Christmas song by Pentatonix. They are absolutely fantastic live! If you have a chance to see them you should. I am sure there are recordings of their performance in Knoxville.
They are in a special studio that invited them to sing in. Thats why the sound is sharpened. They are live!
I'm absolutely in love with this song. PTX knows how to blow it up. Its Christmas time now and you need to check out O Holy Night. More cheese muffins. Wonderful reaction.
Pentatonix ALWAYS includes at least one song on their Christmas album that has nothing to do with Christmas. Examples from past Christmas albums include "Hallelujah," "The Prayer," "Prayers For This World," and "White Winter Hymnal." This is the 2023 non-Christmas song on their Christmas album.
Beyond that, before the album came out PTX posted a Short of Scott Googling "Christmas songs Pentatonix has not covered" (or words to that effect) and coming up empty. So then he Googled "songs that mention snow" and got "Kiss From a Rose."
I'd love to see a comparison between this version and the album version.
Went to their concert last week, Scott explained why it is a Christmas song. He said after recording 92 Christmas songs it is hard to find new ones. One day he heard this song...snow...yeah a Christmas song!
It was live!
They don't lie.
This is a great performance. I must be learning from you , Maggie, because after about the first 15 seconds or so, I said this doesn’t sound live to me. But I’m no expert and they sounded great as always, and the cello added a great touch to the sound. Good reaction and explanation, Maggie.
Im really shocked on the not live comments.. im truly surprised you couldnt tell Maggie..
Every holiday album has a surprise non-Christmas song - Scott says this one qualifies because the word 'snow' is in the lyrics :)
I challenge you on that. I believe it IS a live performance. Yes, I'm sure they have sound people adjusting the reverb, volume, etc..but you can definitely tell from the way their mouths form the words that they are singing this. At any concert, all performers have sound engineers who sit at the control board to adjust volumes, etc. Definitely singing this in the little blue room. Kudos to their sound technicians for making it all balanced. They are singing it live, but no audience, rather in a recording studio, but there is no doubt that they are singing it.....All performers use reverb and other effects to make their performance even nicer........nothing wrong with that.......
Subscribed... Love you ...
Welcome! See you tonight on my livestream for more FUN!! 😜🤣
It has “snow” in the lyrics. Hey, Presto! Christmas.
This is such a great cover, I love it. Now you need to listen to Pure Imagination too. My new favorite Christmas song. It is amazing, so soothing and magical.
Kirstie also does a beautiful job on the new oh holy night.
In terms of the live performance aspect, look at their November performance in Moline IL. It may change your opinion about the processing. Kevin has a pedalboard, but I think those are the only efx and theyre live.
The studio version puts Kirstie a bit more forward before Kevin goes off. This is part of what VEVO considers its live series, all in the same stage/room/whatever that is.
to me, she sounds more forward here in the live version than the studio version and the part where Mitch comes in on the second chorus, his "baby" is drowned out by the background voices and the cello.
They Definitely Brought It on this one
Made the Christmas album because it has the word snow in it. Lol.
Scott "explained" they chose this one because it has "did you know that when it snows" and snow means Christmas so...
You need to watch a live concert video of them or go see them live because this is a live recording and they sound the same in concert as even there non live videos I’ve seen them in concert.
I’m here for the Kevin Slap…
I think youre being told it was live 😂..Best ever group live and recorded ,they just get better and better each year.
This is absolutely a Live performance at Vevo Studios. There would be no difference in how they sound if you went and saw them live. I have seen them live twice and they sound exactly the same. None of there voices need tweaking ever.
What other group do you know who has a celloboxer?? Gotta add, PTX does not use autotune. If you listen to live performances of any of their "official videos" versions, they sound exactly the same. That's talent. ❤ That being said (sorry), it's so good to experience a reaction with a reactor who knows her stuff! You are a treasure. (I don't know why this is called a "live" performance, either - but who cares! lol)
This is recorded live. Not remastered or "produced" as it were. No tuning, they would not allow something not genuine to be released like that. You should see the stuff they did on the sing off show they won that got them famous. Kevin was originally known for playing cello while beat boxing.
If they are mixed and tuned, are they doing the same thing in concert? Because this sounds exactly the same. I’m confused.
If there was a JT song in there, he cribbed it from the original -- JT was just debuted with NSYNC when Seal sang this originally in 1995!
It's a live studio performance. These are live vocals, as opposed to prerecorded.
