The procreation or "child-centric" argument is pure nonsense. No one objects when an elderly couple get married, where the woman is past childbearing age and no children are possible. No one argues for the dissolution of marriages when either the man or the woman proves to be infertile and no children are possible. Very few would condemn a married couple who choose not to have children for their own reasons.
Plainly, marriage is not about procreation or children primarily, or none of these marriages would be valid.

From the Christian and other perspectives, I agree, but other cultures developed concepts of marriage seperate to and before Christianity. It might make sense in their definitions, like the secular definition, for example.
Every example of opposition to gay-marriages being aknowleged by governments that I've seen has always been because of religious people trying to blur the lines between co-habitation documentation and a ceremonial, religious marriage based solely on the idea that they don't want 'the gays' getting in on their version of marriage.
They can say "but my religion", but having your wish of segregation notified doesn't make it not bigotry. Until they can demonstrate that their objective god says 'no gays', then that's nothing more than their opinion.

I find it rediculous that someone would want marriage full-stop, though, I mean that in the ceremonial sense. There are legal benefits to having a co-habitation officially noted. I also don't see why that should be limited to couples, it makes equal sense to allow parents & (adult) children, housemates, etc. to share that too.

There are no "accidental" children in gay marriage, all children born into a gay family are thoroughly planned for and most are well loved compared to some heterosexual couples who abuse their kids and take them for granted.

About which benefits are you talking about? Because as I see it, the benefits of marriage are made to make it more easier for two people to live their life together. (www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/marriage-rights-benefits-30190.html) There is literally no reason why that shouldn't be allowed for homosexuals. 'Family benefits' are only a very small part of these benefits - and even they aren't really about children. Marriage is not about 'getting a whole lot of tax money' so it doesn't effect you at all.
Marriage, btw, existed long before christianity. It wasn't always about 'two people'. Even in the bible, Abraham had more than one wife. And sorry, if parents need 'benefits of marriage' to stay together and raise children, they're probably already worse parents than many homosexual peers. Also, why would you think then why homosexuals would want to marry, too? If marriage is only there to make 2 people stay together - thus limiting their freedom.
The answer is: They already plan to stay together, they just want it to be easier to do (and to be accepted by their own government they also pay taxes to.) Because love isn't always about 'being a man and a woman' :)
Anyway, it doesn't influence you in any way that homosexuals are now allowed to marry. Even if marriage WOULD only be about potential children (which it is not) that would be exactly what should be changed, too. There is no reason to reduce marriage to 'a construction only there for children'. It doesn't harm anyone if people want to marry just to stay together. And this (2 people marrying because they want to live togerther) was never an issue before the possibility of gay marriage.
Marriage is what we make it be. THIS is logic. It's our choice to decide what marriage is about. Because making it harder for 2 people to live together just because they're different is discrimination.

Yet, in most cases surgery only happens after a lot of interviews and counseling and it is actually very hard to get it. At least WAY harder than for a man and a woman to get a baby, which is also a pretty big thing.

I think people who say "I'm Christian" as justification for their own closed-mindedness just tarnishes the name of Christianity, to be honest.
Being Christian means you read the Bible and follow its teachings. And in the Bible, it clearly states marriage is between a man and a woman. You can be open minded as a Christian but that is what the Bible says. In fact many Christians are respectful of gay people even if they are against that view. I am pretty sure the Bible does not state anything about gay marriage and because of that, does it mean you can assume it is ok? Either for or against, it is not up to you or the public to decide because it is the will of God. If it is not written, is it not safe to follow tradition rather than change it into something God would be totally against? Seeing it from this stand point, I can understand what Christians are thinking... This is from me, someone who is not a Christian. Maybe if you are more open minded... you could see that...

I don't think so. You do raise a very interesting question. I think marriage between a heterosexual, infertile couple is like a symbol of child bearing marriage - something good and pure. It encourages settled domesticity, seriousness and responsibility and allows those who could not have children to foster those things. People who marry in later age often mark an understanding of their union's lesser significance by being less extravagant with their party and invitations. It is a symbol in a pure sense and the rings and traditions are perfect tokens. I think those marriages are still good and useful.

You are using the false assumption that being gay is a choice or that you can "make" some one gay. This is totally untrue. All studies show that sexual orientations cannot be changed. So there is no one "pushing" homosexuality on us, because that is not possible.
You also seem to think that being gay is something that only (or at least mainly) occurs in western populations. This is also untrue. A person brought up in a more open and free minded family will be more likely to be open about their sexuality.
This is why you might feel that there are less gay people among minorities with strong traditional values. But they still exist nonetheless, and in the same numbers as they would if there was a wider acceptance of homosexuality (because you don't choose to be gay).

During the early 1960's My friends took me to see someone who was a hermaphrodite. I came out to him/her and got the best advice I ever received. "Be Yourself" I knew instantly I had that right. I from that day onward came out to all my friends.
The 1960 well..that was a long time ago; things were different back then, but it was a time for coming out for a lot of us. I hope my doing so helped pave the way for what is happening in the world today. I was accepted by all my friends and met many who were like myself. I want to thank you all for opening your minds and your understanding. You have all made your world a better place.

I am a Christian too! And I think this is absolutely sickening that some religious people can think of gay marriage this way. Love is love and god loves everyone not just straight people! As love is equal and people who are homosexual should not be treated any differently with their love life! Love is love! And god flipping loves everyone, the way your mindset right is just putting Christianity back in the dark ages and not moving through the world and adapting! There is a reason so many have fallen away from Christ as they experienced condemning like this and don’t feel comfortable enough to go to church’s and be open about their partners, and that is so sad to me, that shouldn’t be any different from a straight couple.
When someone begins their argument with ''I'm a Christian'' their argument is immediately irrelevant. Marriage has separate definitions in terms of religions and the state, so it doesn't matter what the religious view is if someone is marrying by the state. Gay people can't get married in a religious ceremony? Fair enough, if that's what the Bible says. But no one is saying the church has to redefine their definition of marriage and allow them to marry in their kind of ceremonies. We're all equals in the eyes of the law, therefore gay people have as every right as straight people to get married if they wish to. I don't see why it's an issue. I don't see why two people wanting to get married has anything to do with anyone else. I thought in an equal society people have the right to be whoever they want to be as long as they are not breaking the law or hurting someone. Blows my mind.

Had u made the effort to understand those who oppose gay marriage you would realise that some are genuine homophobes, but most are just people who do not want something they are uncomfortable with forced upon them by the power of law - gay weddings in certain religious venues, the bakery situation in the US, the gay couple who took the christian b&b owners to court - this is why it is an issue and the business of others. If those who claim to represent gay people could magnanimously settle for equality under the law, rather than desperately seeking outrage and attacking anyone who holds differing opinions, we might find a lot less opposition
I agree church and state should be kept seperate. I am gay but choose to be on my own because of my religious upbringing. It is difficult and I would never expect others to do it. I was verbally attacked by a gay Christian because of my upbringing despite my fully accepting him and his partner
Tom I dont think she means because they’re Christian. I think she means that a-lot of religions have different opinions of marriage and what a ‘sin’ is. I mean, to many religions if u eat meat, its a sin, but its not a sin to you so why should you not eat it? So if its a sin for gay couples to marry to Christians, why should non Christians getting married care what they say? They shouldn’t. And even if you are a Christian, doesn’t God teach you to love everyone, no matter who they are?

Morality is not black and white. If you are a car thief, you cannot be certain that someone you steal a car from will agree with your actions without asking directly. Insurance may afford them a new car, but what if the one you stole had sentimental value? Not to mention the feeling of violation that comes with being stolen from. To claim that it would be moral to steal someone's car because they'll 'eventually be content' is quite a reach. In the case of underage sex, I think it can be made black and white. Children do not have the mental capacity to comprehend what kind of long term effects sexual activity will have on their lives and are therefore incapable of consenting. To consent, you must understand or at least be capable of understanding the act you are engaging into. Although intellectual maturity comes at different times for different people, the law generally dictates 18 as the age a person is able to consent to sexual activity. At least legally, an 18 year old can engage in sexual acts with any other person(s) also above the age of 18. Whether you feel comfortable with an 18 year old (same-sex or otherwise) engaging in a sexual relationship with someone who is 50 years old is not really of any consequence to the situation. There are plenty of immoral things that a 50 year old could do to an 18 year old they are engaging in a sexual relationship with, but the sex itself cannot by applied to a moral scale. Sex may be involved in immorality if it is coerced or achieved through deception. But in those cases the sex itself is still not the immoral factor, the coercion and deception are. Indulgence in sex is not moral or immoral because morality is in the outcome of an action, not the action itself. Murder is wrong not because the act of shooting a gun or stabbing with a knife is wrong, but because the outcome of taking someone's life against their wishes is wrong.

What we would call gay relationships today was perfectly acceptable in Ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt, Mesoamerica, Japan and elsewhere. Probably the main thing in Rome, for example, was the man of higher status had to be the dominant partner.

The institution of marriage was when a man gave his daughter away for breeding in exchange for land and livestock. The daughter had no say in the matter. Gay marriage is more about love than the traditional values of marriage which in some ways let's face it, was close to sex trafficking.
