Was the Big Ten West a bad idea? Can the College Football Playoff committee handle no divisions?

  • It's a final farewell to the Big Ten West and a look into a future with no college football divisions on this Kings of the North.
Scott Dochterman of The Athletic joins Doug Lesmerises to take a final look at the 10-year run of the Big Ten West: Why it was formed, why it went 0-10 in the Big Ten title game, and why its perception was even worse than its reality.
Without it, will teams like Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Northwestern be better off or worse off? Those questions are answered.
But first Doug runs through the full history of divisions in major college football, and how every major conference had a stronger division and a weaker division -- and maybe that wasn't such a bad thing
After Scott, Doug expresses a fear about the College Football Playoff committee with no divisions around.
And then Doug hands out his final awards for the Big Ten West's 10-year run:
    • Best Player
    • Best Quarterback
    • Best Coach
    • Best Win
    • Best Team
Thanks for joining Kings of the North.

Never understood going away from divisions. Now it’s all about schedule.

As a Nebraska fan... This video was an enjoyable, tough watch. We got a lot of side jabs in this one.

This is a good show, definitely a need for something like this in the Big/North. Regional level coverage but a national scale appeal. Have to change the name though. "THE NORTH"?

I'm a fan of Penn State fan, but I'm happy the Big 10 West was disbanded. I strongly believe Wisconsin, Iowa, and Nebraska are going to flourish with access to the West Coast recruiting and opening up their offensive playbooks. The Big 10 is a true national brand with six national brands (Penn State, Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, USC, Oregon, and Nebraska) that can recruit and develop talent at a top level that will benefit Illinois, Purdue, and Minnesota.
I'm rooting for a Penn State-Oregon matchup in the Big 10 Championship game for the 30 year anniversary of their Rose Bowl matchup in 1994.

Going away from divisions is incredibly stupid. Divisions at least made for balanced schedules within divisions; now without them you could have a team like Rutgers make the conference championship game without facing Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and Oregon. It's absurd.
Also, there will certainly be instances where teams at the very least lose a home playoff game because of these dumb conference championship games.

40-3 over last three seasons. Virtually nobody saw it coming. Harbaugh did. I was puzzled after 2021 OSU game when asked about finally beating OSU said prophetically, something like “this feels like the beginning”

Why not have NFL have conference championship games before the playoffs ¿¿¿¿

How many games are you going to have these kids play? Only way that would work is drop the Mac/cupcake games.

So everyone in the west just wants an easy path to the championship game 🙄 personally I found the Big Ten championship game has been boring and didn't even watch a couple of them.

This is silly. UM, MSU and PSU have 5 conference title. If they were in the west the conference title split woukd have been 6-5. OSU isngood but the only teams that could beat them multiple times were in the East.

This episode encapsulates what’s wrong with northern football at the moment. All these teams that make up the middle majority of the big ten are scared and timid to have to compete on a larger stage. Really no one said oh ya with the new revenue sharing northwestern or Minnesota can keep their city talent and take shots at the playoff. It’s all oh wahhh now we can’t go 7-5 and lose in the big ten championship anymore. Pathetic mentality for northern football.

Wow you play for a bye. If a team gets in the playoffs and not a conference championship game....then that is a bye/ same amount of games

    • @jordanmadden7388
      @jordanmadden7388 11 дней назад

Yeah but one is a bye that advances you in the playoff and the other is just an off week.
