10 Reasons Why Penn State Football Will Make The College Football Playoff In 2024!

- In 10 seasons with Penn State Football, James Franklin has never made the College Football Playoff and only won a single Big Ten Championship. While I do not think the Penn State Nittany Lions will win the Big Ten this year, their odds are the best in a while and I think they will make the 12-Team College Football Playoff. In today's video, I will discuss 10 reasons why Penn State Football will make the College Football Playoff in 2024. This roster is loaded with talent from quarterback Drew Allar and running backs Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen on offense, to defensive end Abdul Carter and linebacker Kobe King on defense. New offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki and defensive coordinator Tom Allen will utilize this talent properly, bringing the Nittany Lions to 11 or more regular season wins and a Top 8 seed in the final CFP rankings. @@jkay8it If we look at the Franklin era as beating up on the easy teams, and consistently failing at beating top 10 teams one or both of the two following statements must be true:
A) Franklin is not as good at recruiting as people claim, so the team doesn't have the talent it needs to win big games
B) The coordinators are not top 10 quality, putting PSU at a significant disadvantage on game day. However, Franklin does choose his coordinators
Why do you believe the team is struggling to beat the top teams in the B10?
Not too concerned about the offensive line. The past 2 or 3 years I’m pretty sure they recruited the best out of the big ten on the offensive line in terms of star rankings. Trautwein has developed pretty well too. His first few years weren’t great these last few years it’s improved a lot.
And they got obliterated on any line of scrimmage but any team with actual talent

Penn State also had the most amount of wide receiver drops of any team in the country. Also, thank you for addressing the fact that we had many opt out in the peach bowl. So many people love the shit on us for losing the whole mess, but that was not our team at full strength.

Coach Trout has done an amazing job, he had to have time to get it the way he wanted and he recruits amazing 👏!!!! Our offense line is actually super talented and deep, the depth is definitely huge!!!! WE ARE
While I agree with the player decisions, the bowl game that PSU got was inconsequential. Why risk a million dollar payday for a game that is meaningless.
The solution is to win big games during the regular season which will put them in consequential games post-season and players will show up. Unfortunately, Franklin has shown he's not good at winning the big games in the regular season.
I agree, if Franklin would just trust his coordinators, everything will fall in place!!! 11-1, my opinion!!! WE ARE 👍

I think Penn states defense wasn’t near elite…. They were elite last year. If you had them out of the top 3 defenses in the country I think you’re smoking crack. The numbers and performances they were able to put up with one of, if not the worst offense they’ve had in the last 10 years was incredible.
I would say it was minimum top 5, iowa, OSU, UMICH (obviously), and MAYBE alabama all had an argument to be better than PSU, realistically top 2-4 tho
Our defense last year gave up the least total yards since the Bama 2013 team, we were number one in sacks, tackles for loss, number two in rushing yards aloud per game, and 4 in pass deflections!!! WE finished the season, number two total defense!!@ WE ARE, going to be elite again on defense!!!
Franklin stays away from the offense they go 11-1 or 12-0. Franklin doesn’t they definitely lose to Ohio State and possibly another game go the usual 10-2 beating the teams they should.
It’s well documented that James Franklin does not interfere with his OCs. If anything, the team would be better off with him being more involved.
Beating OSU? Good luck with that. If anyone beats OSU this season it’s going to be Oregon and Michigan. But it’s more like 11-1 for OSU, 10-2 for Oregon and Michigan, 9-3 for Penn State and Iowa, 8-4 for Wisconsin and Nebraska, then the rest….

@@collegefootballwithsam yeah at Oklahoma State they threw the ball all over the field when he was there. Just generic short passes and generic runs up the middle plays under Franklin. Only thing creative he was allowed to implement was the T formation plays in short situations.

I think penn st makes the playoffs this year. Even with The WV game being in Morgantown. They load box an make Green be a passer would help them win that game... that's not a gimmie. Greene is very quick an can throw on run. Michigan an Ohio st not gonna be as good as last year. Should win 1 of those games. Gonna be a really good season. Starting soon.

The biggest opportunity is because it's a 12 team playoff. But it's also just as likely that PSU could lose 3-4 games. When the stakes are big, James Franklin comes up small, as demonstrated by his record against top 10 teams in his 10 years.
I have Kansas State and Penn State making a deep run into the CFP's. It is highly likely that State College and K State meet in the CFP Championship. Go Baylor Bears.
Totally agree, their schedule sets up nicely as well to where they don’t really play a team that can just run the ball 50 times and take away their pass rush strength. Not saying they will be power rated as one of the 12 best teams, but I think they’ll make the playoff if they go 11-1 or 11-2 with a loss in the big10 championship game.
Also, if they host at home in a whiteout game at night in December, I’m not sure they’d get blown out.
Don’t get me wrong, an 11-1 PSU would not be as good as a 9-3 Ole Miss or Texas, but I think they’d get in over them if the records were like that and could get a favorable matchup.

10 reasons why the will.....1 reason why they wont...Franklin/Offensive Staff.
Reasons 1-8 - not playing MI OR IA. Reason 9 MI OR play each other and OSU. Reason 10 - as good or better than last years team with year 2 5* QB. Which based on last two years with less experienced/lower quality QB- 11-1 coming. Then loss in B1G. 11-2 likely 2 OSU losses So 7-14 seed - unless catastrophe by B1G Champ opponent.
The winning the big 10 only once argument is flawed. The big ten east had Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State. While the West sucks, but one team from the east makes it, and one from the West makes it. IOWA got to play in the big 10 championship last year and we beat them I think it was 38-0….

I've been of the opinion that this season is PSU's last, and best, chance under Franklin to prove to the world (Donors and recruits most importantly) that they can be a championship caliber team. Otherwise, I think PSU will not only lose momentum in their climb to become elite, but will begin to descend down from their typical good/great status closer into mediocre territory. The effects have already started to be seen in recruiting due to lack NIL in this new age of CFB. It's hard to blame people for neither literally nor figuratively buying-in to Franklin. I believe donors will come when they see results, and this year there are no more excuses.
You've got your prodigy OC, Drew Allar has the experience, Singleton and Allen are studs, the TE room is loaded, they got elite transfers with impact play ability. There is no reason the defense would be anything but elite again. As the video says, the schedule is perfect, missing out on 2 of the likely top 4 teams in the B1G and having OSU + Washington at home. If not this year, then I fear never for James Franklin's era with the Nittany Lions.
The ship is only just starting to fill with water, but I think it will fill very fast unless they can turn it around right now.
That's funny, because Franklin just got 2 of the highest recruits of the 2026 class!!! Yeah, our recruiting is so bad, we should be scared 😱!!!!
@@kevinchandler179 Franklin himself says we are struggling and can't currently compete with the OSU's of CFB in terms of NIL. As much as I love the '26 class so far, it is an extremely small sample size (just a few guys) compared to the countless examples of recruiting losses to lesser programs in '25 purely due to NIL. I would love to ignore the very real NIL problem at PSU, but sadly the impacts are very clear if something doesn't change.
Their pass defense takes a step back but their schedule is easier so 10 and 2 is the absolute floor.
PSU IA - getting the “NEW West Schedule” while OSU gets MI PSU OR IA - MI gets TX OSU OR. And PSU gets near bye week-MD at home week before B1G while OSU/MI in basically in the B1G death match at the Shoe. Good one B1G. Good One. Maybe IA goes 11-1, too.

PSU B1G opener IL (3rd weakest team) at home then UCLA at home - very easy start. Two score favorite over lower half of BXII WVU. Tough draws in B1G East with MI OSU. Stunning 10-2 BTB. But THIS year it’s a weak WEST schedule or better if ever there was one. Total gift. Franklin getting a walkover to perhaps IDEAL tie for 2nd in B1G lose tie breaker and avoid B1G for resting up for playoffs.

When quality PSU opponents load the box with 8 on defense...what WRs can get open off 1/1 coverage..answer..nobody. PSU better be good at running the ball with 2 very good RBs..because its all they have to show defenses.
