      This is basically me pushing a lot of my chips into the middle of the table, and maybe in 2025 I will be optimistic too depending on how the season goes for Penn State. I still don't view Franklin as a Top 15 head coach because of his questionable game management, but he has built an elite staff around with with Chuck Losey, Ja'Juan Seider, Terry Smith, Ty Howle, Andy Kotelnicki, Tom Allen, and Deion Barnes. And elite support staff, elite coordinators, and several NFL players with quality depth scream breakout year, especially with an easy schedule.

    I appreciate the effort you put into this. I'd love a 14-2 season as a Penn State fan and it's definitely possible. Regular season is between 10-2 and 12-0. 11-1 should guarantee a home game for the first round of the playoffs, and that should put us at 12-1 heading into the quarters. That would make this the first 12-win season since 1994 and the fourth ever. One more win would mean the most wins in one season in program history.

    As a UCLA fan, you sound *very* B1G biased (traditional B1G, that is). The top of the B1G is undoubtedly better. The rest?
    A bit of recent history for consideration:
    - Washington beat MSU in 2022 and 2023.
    - Washington State, which went 2-7 in PAC-12 play last year, beat Wisconsin in 2022 and 2023.
    - Colorado, which went 1-8 in Pac-12 play, beat Nebraska in 2023.
    I realize that I’m cherry picking games but when you have bad Pac-12 teams beating mid-tier B1G teams, I don’t think we can just assume that the B1G is tougher (overall) than that Pac12 was *last year*.
    It will be fascinating to see how these new conference opponents do against each other.

    • @DougThomsen
      @DougThomsen 29 дней назад +1

      Listening a bit more, I’m realizing that you believe the differences in style of play are enormous and that probably makes up a lot of your opinions about the former PAC-12 teams.

      @@DougThomsenhistorically since at least the 80’s the B1G is about on par with the PAC in terms of wins and losses.
      Both conferences only have two champion teams (USC & Washington) and (Ohio State & Michigan), not counting Nebraska because their dominance was in the Big 8.
      Outside of the top 2-3 B1G teams the past few decades, they’ve been a pretty soft conference. Wisconsin’s best team couldn’t beat a decent Oregon team in the Rose Bowl. Utah took Ohio State to the wire.
      They’re a lot closer than people realize.

    3. The USC defense is leaded with Sr's this is an older experienced defense. Sr. Lead defenses have done well in college football.
    4. They added RB Woody Marks (Miss State) WR Jay Fair (Auburn) to a loaded WR room. They go 8 deep here.

    typically enjoy your analysis but i beg to differ as it relates to how good you believe Michigan will be versus how bad you project Washington to be despite both teams losing a vast majority of their big players from last season as well as their head coaches. Projecting one of those two teams to have a floor that is two wins greater than the other teams ceiling seems lazy at worst, willfully negligent at best. Also, Washington was not a 'severe' underdog to Texas last year as you stated, that's blatantly and provably false.

    • @collegefootballwithsam
      @collegefootballwithsam  29 дней назад +3

      The majority of analysts were picking Texas to beat Washington and the spread was -5.5 Texas. Washington was not a severe underdog, but they were certainly an underdog and the media was heavily siding with Texas before kickoff.
      In regards to the Michigan vs Washington comparison, I see where you are coming from and it is a fair critique. My pushback would be that Michigan's team chemistry will likely be higher, they have more talent and better strength and conditioning, and they return many more 2-deep contributors that Washington does from 2023 (and from a team that was multiple touchdowns better than Washington). However, Washington does have more experience at quarterback and also a good coaching staff, so the margin between these two teams could be much closer than I am predicting. We will know a lot about these two teams and close they are to each other after their showdown in Week 6.

    • @MaizeBlueMichigan
      @MaizeBlueMichigan 29 дней назад

      I agree with Sam's response that Michigan was a far deeper team than Washington, so despite losing similar amounts of players/coaches Michigan is in a far better position to succeed in 2024. Not recognizing that seems "lazy at worst, willfully negligent at best." 😂

    • @ats3216
      @ats3216 29 дней назад +2

      @@MaizeBlueMichigan Having a 'deep' team implies having players who produced previously, 'Returning Production' quite literally means 'players returning who have produced previously'. Both teams having quite literally the same percentage in 'returning production' should tell folks with common sense that there are a lot of unknowns on both teams. That's my gripe in predicting ones ceiling as being two wins less than the other teams floor despite the same level of 'unknown' as it relates to their returning production.

    • @ats3216
      @ats3216 29 дней назад +2

      @@collegefootballwithsam totally fair in terms of chemistry given the coaching situations at each school respectively and potentially strength and conditioning, that is a bit of an unknown for UW as of yet. I'm not understanding the rationale behind 'more 2 deep contributors' however. Does 'returning production' not encompass those '2 deep contributors' as well? If so, your own stats suggest that both teams are returning the exact same amount of '2 deep contributors'. Also, does this take into account additions through the transfer portal? Adding a Will Rogers and especially a Jonah Coleman and a no longer injured Cam Davis make me think UW has a bit more 'returning experience' than most believe despite that experience not all coming while at Washington.
      I cannot wait for the matchup in week 6 and have tickets lined up already, should be a great atmosphere!

    • @MaizeBlueMichigan
      @MaizeBlueMichigan 29 дней назад

      @@ats3216 tbh I'm not very familiar with many of Washington's back ups from last year, but based upon the game's that I watched it seems many if not all of the star players from Washington's squad last year have left, whereas Michigan returns their two best defensive tackles as well two rotational pieces at edge that played very well, the best corner in the nation, best tight end in the nation, and a running back who I think can be one of the best in the country as well. Those players on top of the fact many other starters this year have some degree of experience and are mostly blue chip recruits makes the team conference contenders. I don't think Washington is in as good of a position from what I've read, however my knowledge is more limited. It'll be determined this season though when the two teams face off, and I predict the Wolverines will win handily.

So if OSU just throws and loses 1 game on purpose literally sitting starters to get the 5th seeding lol also NO WAY does a DT on a struggling Michigan team win defensive player of the year and with your offensive line having holes at Michigan how is Edward’s MVP when you don’t have wide holes to run through I just don’t see it. OSU has 4 players being all American 1st team Michigan ofcourse has 5 lol 😂 Michigan literally got lucky last year too many times in that game , not to mention McCord hand yall. 7 points at the beginning of the game. This OSU team aren’t even thinking of lil blue anymore yall cheating like tht to ruin some of the best QB play ever at OSU (CJ Stroud) it’s gone from a rivalry to destroy them by anyway you fight dirty then well pick up studs thru the transfer portal and recruit like Michigan has never seen, we have 5 QBs who’d start at Michigan all our WRs would start hell you’d take our offensive linemen now. And our entire defense would start at lil blue your old beloved Cheater coach jimmy bloodied the water, rivalries usually have some respect for the other OSU players don’t respect the coaches at Michigan and your not gunna want to watch in November once we take you out of the playoffs with that 3rd loss. Rutgers with two losses regular season GETS them into the B1G championship IMO. IF they somehow win that or play a close game, I think they will definitely be in the playoffs. Actually they MIGHT have a better shot at making the playoffs than the B1G championship.
    It will interesting to see the B1G tiebreakers for the championship game, BUT think it will be very hard for any of the teams that have to play each other to go unscathed l. I could see a lot of two losses at the top. For all the talk about Rutgers having the easiest schedule in the B1G, which is true, PSU basically has the same one just swapping out OSU vs say Wisconsin. The remain games are very comparable.
    Either way great breakdown, although I think you have PSU and UM too high. I think OSU is probably the best, but vulnerable and I think Oregon will come out hot but wear down and have some losses in November. PSU will not go undefeated… WVU takes them week 1…

      I think that will happen if Oregon's defense is a Top 5 unit, or if Ohio State and Michigan are worse than I think they will be.

    Michigan SHOULD have a great QB to pass on portal, like pursuing McCord from Syracuse. Maligned by RUclips McCord was 2nd team All B1G - like JJ ‘22 - and had far better game v MI than Penix, etal. And one drive short of beating MI in Ann Arbor. Someone SHOULD be good to great from MI QB room - Ruddock Speight Cade all were at least Honorable Mention All B1G - which currently maligned by RUclips - that quality should be good enough to get a few playoff wins . But WHO? If NOT, Moore Campbell really didn’t do their jobs in portal or development!!! If this room is Forcier or Peters quality - that’s really on the Coaches. This team with poor quarterback play - is 100% a MAJOR COACHING FAIL in planning, portal and development. So expect excellence at QB and a great year - or someone or two didn’t do their coaching jobs.
